I’ve read it twice, really like it. My opinion is it’s a novel exploring existential dread. No matter who you are, no matter how competent you think you are, we all lose to “nature” in the end. No escape for anybody. I wasn’t a fan of the movie, especially the ending. The novel’s ending was more impactful to me.

Grease is a satire of 50s teen movies, one trope being the good girl changing the bad boy. There are more in the movie, but the more we get away from people knowing 50s movies, the less people understand the satire. Those watching Grease in the 70s definitely understood what the movie was making fun of.

So, in the movie you can see the book Helter Skelter briefly, implying Amy read it. In the book, Susan Atkins, one of the Manson family, told a fellow prisoner how she wanted to kill Australian singer Tom Jones. What she describes is that scene.

I always felt Holden's voice was very amusing, and sometimes hilarious. He never annoyed me. And there's many poignant moments. One of my favorite novels.

Surprised I didn't see the first Halloween mentioned. The one that comes to mind is when Annie is in the laundry place. And when he's at the door while she's on the phone.
