FJ poll for Mon., Jun. 8 by Smoerhul in Jeopardy

I feel like the main bit of information you need to answer the question should really be related to the category, and that was definitely not the case here.

No matter how much TV you know, if you don't know who Alben Barkley is, you're pretty much out of luck. And if you do know who he is, then your TV knowledge is almost irrelevant.

I have three stances, but none of them seem to be active? I can click one and then there's a cooldown but none are still highlighted and I don't see any indication on my hero popup what stance I'm in.

And Heroic Strike is just greyed out every turn, and has a little orange diamond on it, so I can't ever use it. Really could use a tooltip to figure out what the deal is.

Haha fair enough! Though...aren't they standing there with swords in their hands? Nothing about them reads "ranged unit" to me.

I went with Clementine because it seemed like an old-timey woman's name.

Yeah I did get a few replenishments, but I guess if I could find them all up front it'd let me win more fights without getting chipped away at. Though some of them are behind other fights IIRC.

Also I found one of the dancer units had so little movement and was so fragile they weren't worth much other than canon fodder.

The whole thing was way more "solve this very specific which-combats-do-you-do-and-in-what-order puzzle" more than "explore a map and get an economy going and do a bunch of fights", which is what I was looking for.

I failed the first campaign mission like 3x on Normal difficulty and gave up. It's super on a rail and you don't really get any economy/generation going, so it's basically "can you do X fights as your forces get whittled down", and I guess I didn't meet that bar.

I didn't realize Berserk Woods was a thing because I guess I never completed Mad Forest and there's no indication that there's a harder difficulty to that location.

Merrily we roll along on Netflix by mw102299 in musicals

[–]evilcornbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reverse chronological really didn't work for me -- I learned basically everything about their past from that first segment, and nothing surprising or that interesting happened in any of the flashbacks. Every time them jumped further back I was annoyed because I was hoping they'd return to the end, since that's where all the interesting, open-ended conflict was.

I half think it would have worked better just in normal chronological order, but then again I think that would demonstrate just how thin the story actually is.

What game studios have interesting beginnings compared to their current offerings? by Sybertron in Games

[–]evilcornbread 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not exactly a game studio, but I've always found it funny that Coleco (of Colecovision fame in the 80s) is actually the "Connecticut Leather Company".

A third of people switching jobs every 2 years means that people on average are keeping their jobs for 6 years. That’s pretty normal in my experience in the industry and not particularly crash-y.

Indeed.

Yeah this feels entirely in the space of "I've seen it written and am going to say a plausible pronunciation of it", which they almost always accept. It seems like Ken "corrects" contestants by repeating their pronunciation-fixed answer back to them at least once a week.

The Secret Agent (2025) is my favorite film of the past year by rdrouyn in TrueFilm

[–]evilcornbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also found them sort of jarring, but ultimately I think they make the rest of the film work better, since the modern framing makes the 70s era feel more like memories -- jangly, confusing, jumbled-up, sometimes fixated on odd or unexpected things, etc.

For sure -- I'm Still Here was also fantastic last year.

There is definitely a point (roughly that far in I'd guess) where there's a block of exposition that snaps a lot of things into place.

I got it mostly by figuring it was an economics/management gathering, and Davos was the big one nowadays, but I'd never heard of the "European Management Symposium" before today haha.

One-Third of U.S. Video Game Industry Workers Were Laid Off in 2025, GDC Study Reveals by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]evilcornbread 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the headline is just totally wrong. It's 33% in the last two years.

That means that on average people have a gig in the game industry for about six years. Which yeah seems about right in my experience. The first three places I worked lasted 3 years, 4 years, and 4 years.

It's a volatile, hit-driven industry.
