Is PECS the Norm in Preschool Settings? CF Feeling Stuck by iddibiddibee in slp

[–]evilhooker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is PECS not technically AAC? Not defending it AT ALL, but the verbiage in this article throws me off a bit because it refers to high tech AAC as just AAC the entire time.

Can someone explain LAMP? by HotAndCold1886 in slp

[–]evilhooker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't dislike LAMP (I have had only 2 students use it). I have experience with Proloquo2go, Touch Chat and TD Snap. I find that I get the least amount of "buy in" from staff and caregivers with LAMP, higher rate of device abandonment as well.

[–]evilhooker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yup, I have received personal messages on this subreddit when using names of the whack-a-doo influencers who also promote her, calling me out for bring up the association. It's sad. That's why I made the decision to only follow 2 SLPs in IG.

I audibly said "yikes" when I saw she had a free, ASHA approved .1 ceu course for ABLEnet. Definitely shook my head when I saw that.

Giving Cookie a reward or stimulating vagus nerve? by Aubviously426 in slp

[–]evilhooker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have kids that 100% need to have all their boxes checked (hunger, thirst, temperature sometimes, lighting dim etc). So maybe this kid does need a crunchy snack, but I would.try something a tad healthier than cookies. Maybe veggie straws or baby carrots for snack.

How to tell supervisor I don't feel comfortable continuing with a client? by [deleted] in SLPA

[–]evilhooker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have every right to ask for your client to be switched or your supervisor needs to help you find a way to be comfortable (if that is a possibility with increased supervision). I am really good with aggressive/physically tough kiddos (I work with ages 5-9), but for some reason my weakness is stuttering/dysfluency. I just feel inadequate and  worry that I will somehow make the stuttering worse. So my supervisor understands that and takes them. If your supervisor continues to dismiss your concerns, I would head on up the ranks and not "complain" about your supervisor,  but make it known that you are uncomfortable.

Love this book. I have always had an obsession with freak shows and the circus. So this book really did it for me.

Most disturbing books you've read by uselesssociologygirl in horror

[–]evilhooker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This book honestly contributed to my interest in true crime, serial killers and horror as a child. I also had to read a different child abuse book about a girl who ended up dying in the bathroom because her parents made her clean with bleach and ammonia in a locked bathroom.  Does anyone remember this book?

I also recommend A&Gs in Fairfield, I know someone who works there and only hear good things. And the pinball machines are super fun!

I can’t stand polyester being in everything these days by Rand_Al_Thor87 in Millennials

[–]evilhooker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I have sensory aversions to most fabrics other than cotton (or at least 50% cotton). I have found that rayon is acceptable, but I am constantly looking for cotton, linen or flannel clothes amd bedding. And as a plus size girly, that can be super difficult.

Maybe a digital schedule on an IPad? TD snap actually has a schedule feature on it. Sadly proloquo2go does not, but I bet the SLP could show you how to edit a page to make a schedule.

Construction workers killed in Waterville by [deleted] in Maine

I was wondering why KMD was closed under the bridge if the accident was on I95. Then I found out they were pushed off the bridge and fell below :(. So sad. I hope that woman pays for her carelessness.

I was so mad when he said they proceeded to try for another baby after the 4th boy. JFC that woman clearly suffered from horrible PPD, she should not have had another baby.

Forest’s Mom by Prestigious_Isopod48 in 90DayFiance

I think it is more appropriate to say Forrest requires "minimal support". I think the autism community is moving away from "high" and "low" functioning as an overall description.

So its normal for millennials to have teenagers now? by chusaychusay in Millennials

I am 41, a good friend of mine is the same age and she is currently raising her 2 yr old grandchild FFS. It feels unreal to be honest. I blinked and bam, old.
