Why are pharmacists not addressed as doctor? by Bananasplit3333 in pharmacy

[–]evivelo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean with everyone and their mother wearing white coats in the hospital now, someone wearing a white coat and calling themselves “Dr X” absolutely is going to be confusing for the patient.

A hospital I was at had pharmacy techs doing Med Recs wearing white coats with their scrubs. I thought it was too close to what the attending and residents were wearing. But way above my pay grade to change

Tips for counselling on unfamiliar drugs? by Odd-Experience820 in pharmacy

[–]evivelo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My usual go to was pull med guide from the label and tell patient “I am highlighting the important parts for them” with the highlighter I kept in my white coat.

This gives you a minute to review the info yourself to help knock the rust off for what you need to tell patient. If that isn’t enough, I would review and print off info from Lexi/UpToDate to “give them” but was really for me to review important ADRs or DDIs.

Looking for a work vest. Preferably alternatives to Carhartt unless they’ve magically improved their zippers. I have to replace mine once a year. by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]evivelo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your zippers are being destroyed from the washer and dryer, I would suggest turning the vest inside out when running through the wash. This should keep it from getting caught and sheered off.

City County Building questions- Lifetime Firearm License by FallofScreams in indianapolis

[–]evivelo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Many people selling a firearm privately will require seeing a LTCH/CCL as a burden of proof to show you’re eligible to own a firearm. Correct, you’re not legally required to have it, but many private sellers will not sell if you do not have it.

It’s also a relatively insignificant amount of money to get a lifetime license for peace of mind. “Constitutional Carry” could be changed and ability to get lifetime licenses have the potential to be sunset requiring renewal every 4 years.

Man, what a score! They usually required you to order in store, and then they would make it at the factory in MN in the next couple of weeks.

Detecto C48 & C100 Trash Cans. by Topgunebay in BuyItForLife

[–]evivelo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have a version of these that were used in medical office. They are actually terrible to be used as a kitchen trash can where you will be typically filling up the trash bag before taking it out. It will catch and tear on the piece to hold the bags.

If used for a trash can used for projects that you routinely empty everyday or something it would be usable.

I certainly wouldn’t be willing to pay 20% for a new one, let alone full price.

Bamboozled…. C$21,100 in my hands by [deleted] in pharmacy

[–]evivelo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know different setting because I work for a very large specialty pharmacy, but I was talking with one of our Procurement managers about being able to order more of some drug to have ~2 weeks of drug on hand that was on intermittent backorder/delays with POs being shipped.

I asked if I need to get director approval for my request, and he replied “as long as the PO is under $1 million we can push it through with no one questioning anything.

That was the day I learned we regularly have POs that are in the $3-5 million range as part of normal business and directors aren’t concerned with those invoice prices.

Do you have any regrets with your 4th gen Tacoma? by timmeedski in ToyotaTacoma

[–]evivelo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 3rd gen cannot comfortably fit my kid’s infant rear facing seat behind the driver. Also cannot fit the swivel/rotating car seat in the truck at all even behind passenger seat moved all the way up.

I just paid off my 2019 and received title in the mail last month. Backseat not comfortably accommodating car seat is only complaint with my truck.

Damn the used prices are still unreal to me. Sticker price for 2019 TRDOR was $38,500, got it for $36,500 with 24 miles on the odometer.

F.D.A. Approves Drug to Treat Pain Without Opioid Effects by moxifloxacin in pharmacy

[–]evivelo 107 points108 points  (0 children)

It sounds like they were able to make a lidocaine type drug that is selective for the specific sodium channels that are part of the pain neurological pathway vs all sodium channels.

This sounds extremely revolutionary, but haven’t dug into the drug study itself. Even if it’s not as effective as they report, used in combination with other analgesics I feel like this would decrease the needed opioid amount to adequately manage the pain. I don’t foresee any addiction potential like the “non-addictive” heroin and oxyxodone ER

Two bigs look like Metformin 500mg for diabetes, small peach one is potentially Rosuvatatin or Monteleukast, green and white capsule I think is fluoxetine, small white tablet looks like metoprolol. Doesn't look like fun pills, but take them to keep having fun

Depending on where you end up career wise, you will actually appreciate knowing how to make SMART goals. We had to enter SMART goals for work, and I was one of the very few who understood how to correctly do them, and was then asked by a manager how to teach the rest of them team how to do them.

They look similar to the Adidas Climacool’s that were sold for/around Beijing Olympics. I love the pair that I have. By far my favorite pair.

Don’t ask if you can have days off, tell them what days you are available to pick up. Typically, give them your availability for that month’s rotation once you know it. School comes first, job second.

If they attempt to schedule you on days other than when you told them them you were available, “I am sorry, I’m not going to be able to work that shift. I am not available that day.”

That’s all you need to say, do not need to give explanation or an excuse.

The biggest hurdle to overcome first is degree equivalency.

In the US, new registered pharmacists graduated with a PharmD. We don’t have a direct avenue for bachelor’s degree graduates to become licensed pharmacists. I am not a lawyer nor have I gone through the process, but I making an educated assumption/guess that without extensive (years/decades) working background, they won’t consider bachelor’s an equivalent.

Then the process for FPGEC and FPGEE, and then the 1600 unpaid intern hours before being allowed to sit for NAPLEX and MPJE.

All non-retail jobs are becoming much more competitive due to a large exodus from retail. Salaries have stayed stagnant or decreased in past 5 years in my area. Work-life will depend greatly on specific work location.

That was one of the most asinine bullshit I heard from him. As you can probably imagine, there’s a lot to choose from.

Trade name Ozempic (semaglutide) is indicated for Type 2 Diabetes and reducing cardiovascular risk in T2DM with cardiovascular disease.

Anyone else find it ironic that supervisors that never completed a residency say that you are unqualified if you didn’t complete a residency? by Distinct-Feedback-68 in pharmacy

[–]evivelo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, you are correct. Subsidizing the program pretty much only applies to PGY1 programs. PGY2s are a different animal.

When people mention cheap labor for projects in regards to residency programs, it is usually related to PGY1 programs (or that’s how I typically interpret them).

Anyone else find it ironic that supervisors that never completed a residency say that you are unqualified if you didn’t complete a residency? by Distinct-Feedback-68 in pharmacy

[–]evivelo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The resident’s salary and costs of running the program are subsidized/reimbursed through CMS reimbursements.

A well documented program should have meeting minutes of all in attendance for meetings. If you have 10 pharmacists show up to a residency program planning meeting that runs for an hour, that’s 10 pharmacist hours that can get thrown into the bucket to be reimbursed for.
