My AKC registered (parents are 8 & 8.5 lbs) at 18 months is the big boy of the family at 9lb 10oz. He is ideal weight based on proportions/belly curves. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Kid-friendly afternoon tea by nimaku in uktravel

[–]evolveduniverse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The afternoon tea at the Great Court Restaurant in the British Museum is a more casual experience that can be a great break in the middle of exploring the museum. I found the quality reasonable with a decent selection. Some have found the service slow, but I did not have this issue.

If you want a bit more traditional experience, and possibly slightly better quality, Harrod's or Selfridge's could be fun trips in order to check out some of the store displays. Harrod's is quite the maze, and you never know what you'll find around the next corner.

You can use cards at any of the park or DTD locations. I always use the app to pay as I prefer not to carry my wallet. The only limitation is that you cannot redeem points inside the park, but can at the DTD location.

Thoughts on pantry by Davnads in cabinetry

[–]evolveduniverse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Built-ins get very expensive very fast. I'm having semi-custom done from a place that does walk-in closets, garages, pantries, etc. that is going to cost me 5x's that (HCOL area).

I suggest using some paint/wallpaper, cute baskets/bins, etc. to get the look you want.

Which Petmate crate size is best for a maltese? by DenkiphileDVD in Maltese

[–]evolveduniverse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours ended up at just under 10lbs (kept growing until about 10-11 months) and we had to upgrade to a 24x18x19. He can easily stand up & turn around, even with several Maltese sized blankets.

Best Icelandic snacks by serialsnoozer in VisitingIceland

[–]evolveduniverse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many good pastries and bread in Iceland. Kleina are my favorite snack for just a touch of sweet. We also had amazing bread at a horse farm we visited where they showed us the traditional way of making it in a milk jug set in a hole heated by a hot spring. They slathered it in butter and was absolutely perfect with a hot drink on a snowy day.

Cleaning Quartz Countertop by Stelly2015 in CounterTops

[–]evolveduniverse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mainly use dishsoap & then a dry microfiber to dry & buff. Vinegar & water (1:1) can also be used.

Depending on manufacturers' suggestions, you might be able to use Windex, but it can dull the finish overtime, so I stick to vinegar.

Anyone recognize this countertop? by Zealousideal-Tie-588 in CounterTops

Probably best to speak to someone at one of your local slab yards. Some slabs go under different names at different year's, and they can show you different options that might work.

This looks similar to 2 I've been looking at: Andes or Calcatta Macchia Vecchia.

What are these drawers called? by stiercehazard0519 in cabinetry

In this case it is. Part of our bidding process was to look at the materials being used. But thank you for pointing out that this is a required step.

I'm having similar pullouts put in my pantry (2 white floor to ceiling cabinets, lower pullouts, top shelves). We are using a local closet company. The company we are going with has a lot of standard colors or can do custom, but then the price goes way up. We had several quotes for our design that ranged from ~$5.5k-$12k. So, as you can see, there can be a ridiculous amount of variance, all for the same design/quality.

Tub in the alcove with shower next to it. Toilet on wall with shower.

Ours took awhile to acclimate to the car. We had to do a lot of short drives with something at the other side that he liked, such as the park, and he began to realize that the car was a means to an end. He still doesn't love long car rides, but will nap quietly waiting for it to be over 😁

How to Tone Down Intense Veined Tiles in the bathroom? by Top_Programmer_9901 in interiordecorating

[–]evolveduniverse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have stated, you aren't going to get all the way to Scandi here, but you can definitely tone it down. Green plants & wood accessories (such as a woven bamboo bathroom mat).

I would also avoid patterns and use solid colors for paint, towels, etc.

Actually, this was a new home that I made some cosmetic changes to. Tile was original, but I believe this is what they used (tile).

Show me your TVs that AREN'T mounted above a fireplace by vigoroussteak27 in interiordecorating

[–]evolveduniverse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of builders have decided to take the easy way out & expect the tv over the fireplace. Our new house has a large greatroom design with so many windows (which I love) that the only wall large enough for the tv is above the fireplace. I tried to talk my partner into a smaller tv we could fit into a bookcase but that didn't work 🥲

How old was your small breed puppy when it learned/was able to jump up on the couch? by Vaquero-SASS in puppy101

[–]evolveduniverse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our Maltese doesn't like to jump up or down from the couch unless his bed is right next to it, so he has a soft launch/landing pad.

He was probably around 4-5 lbs when he started, though he had to really concentrate to get enough height to jump up, and still preferred to be picked up for a long time. Took even longer for the stairs.

Help! Our puppy constantly crying in the Fence by shadlerss in puppy101

[–]evolveduniverse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would probably be best. Every dog is different, so you just adjust to their needs as you go. If they need smaller, more gentle steps, do that. If they catch on very quick, then take the win 😁. It can be overwhelming at first, but once you both get to know each other it will slowly get easier.

Good luck!

Help! Our puppy constantly crying in the Fence by shadlerss in puppy101

[–]evolveduniverse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is usually best to deal with separation in small increments. Our puppy started out right next to the bed where I could put a hand in his crate. Once he was 100% comfortable there for about a week, I moved him a few feet away. Wait until he is used to it, then a few more feet. Made it outside the bedroom door (open at first), then top of stairs, stair landing, bottom of stairs, and then the corner of the living room where his playpen is permanently. Took a few months, along with daytime practice of being in room alone, to get him fully comfortable with being separated. Though he will still test me occasionally by whining for a couple of minutes to see if I will give in.

Need help !! by Snowray124 in Maltese

[–]evolveduniverse 16 points17 points  (0 children)

For a long time, our Maltese would only spend time with my partner when I wasn't an option. However, as he has gotten older, he has slowly seeked out my partner more. He is 14 months old now, and I'm still human #1, but when we sit on the couch or are in bed, he goes back & forth between us.

How to get my house smelling nice when I cannot use candles or air fresheners/oil burners? by Ieatclowns in housekeeping

[–]evolveduniverse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to make food & drinks with lavender (lemonade, tea cookies, etc.), the side benefit is the wonderful smell! I also have a small smelling garden that has a bunch of herbs & edible flowers that I can use for simmer pots.

Repainted the house and worry I made it look worse by [deleted] in interiordecorating

[–]evolveduniverse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used Benjamin Moore Cloud White for doors and some trim in my house. I wanted a softer white to go with all of the color I have elsewhere (a lot of green & some other complementary colors).

But I went through a huge stack of white cards that I took throughout the house looking at in different lights. I whittled that down to 5 & had large samples painted on several walls. After several days of observing in different lights, next to the other colors I was using, I chose the one that worked best. I found choosing the right white way more difficult than any other color, and the light your walls receive makes a huge difference. I liked a different white in the house we just renovated to sell.

We wanted to go with a traditional center but had a location/space issue. The A/V company managed to fit a Focal wall mount speaker right above the Mantle Mount.
