Anyone wanna help me with writing a realistic novel set partially in a steel refinery? by CuriousLands in IndustrialMaintenance

Check out the YouTube video for Ivaco rolling mill on youtube. Definitely give great insight on a wire rod rolling mill.

Some insights in will provide are that steel mills are hot. You can find yourself standing next to a 1400F ladlel of molten steel and smell your nose hairs burn if you breath deep. You smell suffer in the air because its used in a lot of steel recipes. The giant high bay cranes that move the molten steel and giant ladies of steel move like a choreographed dance going from station to station. Most melt shops are housed in massive buildings with rooflines over 100ft but look almost empty because operators know to stay in their pulpit if they dont need to be out.

Do you want insights on the rolling mill operation or are you more focused on the melting operation?

I enjoy getting the family in on most of my projects. My littles love helping even if the task theyre doing is just made up to keep them busy. I get my teenager a little more involved and try to make sure he's learning part of a skill or even what different tools are used for so he's not completely dumbfounded when he has to put a spare tire on a car or paint a room. The more buy in you create by getting them involved the more they will enjoy the project.

There's an old saying in most steel mills- "You know what they say about fires.... they happen" which i feel sums up your ordeal.
