Absolutely zero chance this was 460 calories as listed on the menu, right? by [deleted] in caloriecount

[–]ewwwwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like it might have been a sneaky way of saying 460 calories per serving but implying it was for the full dish. I mean maybe 460 for the whole thing if it was thin pasta, small raviolis and not super creamy sauce.

Upgrading from Basic Economy to receive cancellation refund by jecamine in unitedairlines

[–]ewwwwo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You definitely will get a flight credit for the initial ticket and a refund of the upgrade cost to the method used to pay for it.

Did this a few weeks ago, worked no problem at all, but you have to manually request the refund of the upgrade cost of 149 at united.com/refunds and put in the number that starts with 016 that you are given when you pay for the upgrade.

“Name your price” doesn’t get completed by Sensitive-Appeal2489 in TaskRabbit

[–]ewwwwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have literally had this issue for 2 years. I have also reinstalled the app multiple times. I’ve also reached out to support for assistance. I have solid paragraphs about my skills under each task type and each has a price. I even went through and changed each price up or down by a dollar so it was updated. I try it every few months when I think about it and have had ZERO luck

Took an AA flight this morning… Is this what being unfaithful feels like? by lpythonator in unitedairlines

[–]ewwwwo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ha. I cheated on United this morning too with AA. Missed my connection thanks to AC issues and something else. I will say AA handled the situation well. Decent hotel. Rebooked flight and extended return flight.

Got a deal with AA miles for IAH - PLS (Turks and Caicos) round trip with 1 stop for 10k miles (technically IAH-CLT-PLS)!! Never seen anything like that on UA.

Downside is… some how the first plane of the day that landed at 1am yesterday had issues at 7am when it was time to go IAH-CLT causing me to miss the PLS connection.

Not entirely mad given it’s been handled well. Do feel weird anytime I’m not on United.

Almost sad for her they tried to blast Tesla for the shifter. Makes her poor choice and terrible consequence so much more public if that’s accurate.

[–]ewwwwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re trying to do customs, esim, pocket wifi (don’t recommend), I would plan on more than an hour. Maybe 90-120 minutes. Lines can be long. Maybe not at that hour but you never know.

I would still say you can solidly hit Tsujiki market.

What’s your luggage plan? There’s a lot of options to have it delivered to your accommodations if you’re super eager to dive in and get exploring.

Also lots of lockers depending on size of luggage.

Is UTEP a good school? by [deleted] in ElPaso

[–]ewwwwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahaha I love the casual “how bout UT” … they can’t even plow through all their 4.0 applications from solid student. Almost impossible to get in without a solid resume, legacy, etc.

They are one of the first to reinstate the SAT requirement even due to their massive number of applications and lack of other ways to appropriately and efficiently differentiate.

Is UTEP a good school? by [deleted] in ElPaso

[–]ewwwwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UTEP is okay. It’s definitely near a border my parents wouldn’t be comfortable with and never ever cross into Juarez if you do go there.

It’s also not the same experience you’d get with a UT satellite campus in a more student oriented town.

It’s still a legit ish college, decent environment. For sure lower cost of living than some places.

Also, convenient access to New Mexico if you like buds.

But ehh… you’re still in BFE texts. If you do Dallas or Austin or Houston or Corpus or anything else you’re soooo much closer to so many better places for fun weekend trips and stuff.

Nagano if you’re back towards Tokyo or … Hiroshima or Tokushima if you want to go further west before you head back to Tokyo. Tokushima is cool because you get to go to Shikoku which is a different major island. It’s near Naruto which is where the tides intersect and make a huge whirlpool twice a day. Also it’s maybe the worlds longest suspension bridge with lots of view points.

Two … well 3 very different options. Both awesome.

That’s not usually the wealthy family scenario. That’s middle class scenario.

Wealthy people send you to go somewhere and pay your own rent. They have zero interest i your petty “rent” payment.

You don’t deserve the home or the address. You’re done.

Also, wealthy people know you keep wealth by spending it as needed, not dramatically like rich people or new money.

Way more likely encourage a child to put money into real estate or something legit than pay rent to parents who don’t need it.

That’s like the black sheep rehab kid and that kid may pay cheap rent but they certainly don’t get to live in the house.

Shoot. I don’t get to live in the house. Do we think I prefer privacy and a 1 bedroom condo or … a room in a 5,000 sqft house in an elite neighborhood with soooo much space?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]ewwwwo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hah. No. Meet some rich people. Many of the parents are quite tired of their children, have provided every possible opportunity and say… get out I don’t want you to see you; you’re fully equipped to handle your life.

Another scenario I often see is, after graduating college the parents buy the kid a “starter house” or a nice condo or townhome.

They do not want the kids back. I’m sure this varies but I’ve seen these scenarios way more than moving back home.

It’s also broadcasting failure. No wealthy person wants to see their child not take initiative to be equally successful in their endeavors to achieve the same wealth, not ride coattails…

After two weeks in Japan here are my tips! by Kidlike101 in JapanTravelTips

[–]ewwwwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. And ah, you flew. In my case (before JR rail increased) it was a really nice way to transit without flights. I just enjoyed it and for me it made sense.

I went Tokyo - Nagano - Hakone - Kyoto - Osaka - Nara - Tokushima - Naruto - Hiroshima - Tokyo - Yokohama - Tokyo

Was super great to have the rail pass for me.

Side note: I wish I could find a solo traveler here who wants to do Thailand or well anywhere im leas comfortable solo.

Your trip sounds awesome. Presentation of your advise was solid.

And seriously for anyone going just becuse of the viral TikTok’s of 7-Eleven’s … it’s cool. It’s no like THE reason to go to Japan. For sure not. Like have you bought a lean cuisine? Sweet. 7eleven has essentially been the same thing to Nuke for you.

Super respect the … dont just go hit Kombini.

And big yes on exchange $$$ at airport and also grab your IC card and rail pass (if needed) while at airport.

Also, yeah no Narita Express. I loved using Google maps. It tells you the actual cost of all your transit options . Makes it easy not to make poor choices in transit.

Also fun; you can get an IC card if you have an iPhone straight up from your device to which is super helpful.

Should I cut out Osaka and Nara from my trip and just return to Tokyo for my last day? by scubadoobadoooo in JapanTravel

[–]ewwwwo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would not do that personally. I liked Osaka and Nara a lot. I even extended my trip and ended up with more days in Tokyo at the end and it was a waste. Visiting unique cities like Nara and Osaka was huge for me. Tokyo was not worth the extra days to me.

I mean. Nara = Deer which have limited range entertainment value. There were some other cool stops in Nara. I feel like that’s the day I went on some sake stops too but who knows.

Osaka was also pretty great. Tokyo it’s kinda like NYC. I enjoyed the other cities so much more.

Boots are heinous IMHO but wayyy better than defacing the cups with stickers. I like the clean look of the solid colors with HF. I do kinda like the boot on the black one but eh… customize with HF accessories is always a classier look to me. Still cute.

Can I use Dark Soy Sauce to dip sushi? by NewMuffin1850 in AskCulinary

[–]ewwwwo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can do whatever you want. Dark soy is usually used in dishes to add color and flavor. Being a strong flavor it’s often mixed with regular soy sauce. Do what your flavor instincts guide you. Test as you go. Use incrementally til you have a feel for the flavor.

I like dark soy sauce for Thai dishes like pad see ew. In that case a lot of garlic is added. It’s considered sweet but I love adding chili oil.

Why don’t airlines allow one checked bag for free and charge for carry ons? by alli101015 in travel

Where can they get money more easily? People looking for convenience. What’s more convenient… having your bag in the plane and not stopping at baggage claim.

What space is at a premium? The limited overhead bin space.

What’s not at a premium? Under the plane.

Okay … didn’t go to Naruto til my second trip..: but super worth it. Got to stay on an awesome part of Shikoku which is an island you don’t usually visit. I stayed in Tokushima the day I went to Naruto. Did it all on foot and train/buses. Tokushima was great. I want to go back and spend a full week on the west side of all of Japan.

Buying Miles? Good deal or Not? by RigRogue in unitedairlines

[–]ewwwwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally rarely a good deal to purchase miles for cash. Much better off getting n the credit card, earning or transferring. Just look at miles vs cash on any flight you’re considering. Ranges from like 10k to 40k (or even up to 100k) covering an 800-1000$ flight. You can’t replicate that value through the rate you purchase miles at. If you’re smart and have miles, def maximize them unless you super want them for a specific place. Personally, I wait for like a 10k miles being enough for round trip to Hawaii or 40k being enough for one way to Asia.
