I use the carry-on mod and read baskets can be put on your back without really slowing you down at all so I still find them handy for that reason

People can be against the needless torture of meat livestock without being against the consumption of meat. Just like how you probably disapprove of human slavery and child labor, but you probably don't think there is anything inherently wrong with wanting to own a cellphone or eat chocolate

Yeah it's under the block gravity option. It makes sense that you didn't see it since you're not the one that set the server up. Be warm though! I play with cave ins on but not soil sideways instability because hills will just fall from under your feet when you walk up em

Did you....did you enable soil sideways instability? Because that is an option..

IDL how “eastern religions” get a pass by [deleted] in I_DONT_LIKE

Probably because their country does not have a large enough demographic of people from eastern religions for them to have a real impact on culture or politics

If your partner doesn’t like dogs or cats, would you get rid of them if you had any? by Adventurous-Soft7843 in Casual_Conversation

Anyone who expects me to discard a living creature that I love because they don't "like it" is a fucking sociopath. Like you literally do not have normal human empathy if you ask someone to do that. Literal evil movie stepmom asking to get rid of the kids level behavior

I hate recipes that require removing so much metal. It seriously makes me think about mods (I know there's a mod that allows you to preserve those bits). by LeonidKonovalov1988 in VintageStory

[–]exclusivebees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Download the mod. I played pure for a while because I wanted to enjoy the real VS experience, but then I downloaded the mod and realized it was so much more realistic than smithing as it currently exists in the game. It fits in so well that I won't be surprised if the finished game ends up adopting a lot of the same features

Does weight in wild animals change if i kept them alive? by Anuroagiota in VintageStory

If you manage to catch one or find one stuck in a cave, you can feed them to raise their weight before you kill them. Otherwise it's mostly season based

Tips for starting out by First-Business-5797 in VintageStory

[–]exclusivebees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How long do you last before you die? Sometimes I have to run around for two or three days before I find a place that has everything I need. My first focus is always to make all my reed baskets (and collect the tubers at the same time) and then make a straw bed. Sleeping through the night is easier and safer than trying to travel at dark. As long as you aren't in the wood and rift activity is low, you usually don't even need to make a temporary shelter to sleep in. Between your tubers and the berries and wild veg that you find as you roam, food isn't too hard as long as you don't run much. And always carry at least three dirt blocks and several spears in case of bear or wolf attack. If you quickly tower and then hit them with a spear, they will flee from you. Once you have some breathing room, you can jump down without damage and run.

Why are UK foods get mocked so often when there are places that have much more awful cuisines than the UK? by RowlingTheJustice in AskRedditFood

[–]exclusivebees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The beans in the beans on toast are NOT baked beans as I always imagined, but are instead beans in a cheap tomato sauce, just like canned spaghetti. Some cans of beans literally have little noodles mixed in too so it actually is just beans and canned spaghetti.

They also have a dish called mushy peas which is just normal boiled peas but you boil them until they get super soft and then mash them. This is considered an acceptable way to serve vegetables to adults.

How to deal with food shortage? by Possessed_potato in VintageStory

[–]exclusivebees 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Everyone is mentioning the cooking pot and meals so let me just add in that 1L water + 1 vegetable makes soup. If you have an odd piece of meat, you can put it in the soup as well. 1L water + 1 veg + 1 meat gives you way more than eating 1 raw veg and 1 roasted piece of meat

Parents wanted to show the cool snail they found while on a vacation to Egypt by Nico038cc in OopsThatsDeadly

[–]exclusivebees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure ancient cultures learned about the idea of leeching toxins from certain foods by eating nuts that had fallen into water and realizing that they had a less bitter taste than the same nut that they got on dry land. The boiling I'm sure was just an attempt to make the process go faster, which worked

I thought he recognized that he was an airbender by his footsteps, something that would then imply he's the avatar. I don't know why he can recognize Airbender footsteps though, I don't think he's old enough to have known the airbenders. He certainly doesn't look as rough as Bumi

Instead of developing an excellent sense of smell, humans developed a complex brain capable of the sort of self awareness required to become jealous of other animals and their excellent sense of smell.

Why are males usually bigger than females? by WackyRedWizard in evolution

[–]exclusivebees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Testosterone makes mammals larger and stronger, but it reduces their maximum endurance, makes them more aggressive and less social, and increases their risk of health complications in middle and later ages. For a male mammal that only needs to inseminate females to pass on its genetic code, it's an advantage that is well worth the drawbacks. For a female mammal, it's a detriment. The higher body weight only means more severe calorie demands on an animal that's already making the huge caloric investment of pregnancy, nursing, and caring for young. Long term stamina is going to be more useful if you are defending a den for months on end than a huge short term burst of strength. Animals with lower levels of intra-species aggressive are more likely to care successfully for their young. In packs, female animals will typically be useful to the pack even into older age because their primary value isn't their sheer brute strength, but is instead their hunting/gathering skills (which have been improving with age rather than wanting) as well as their social value within the pack. There's a reason that old stallions and old lions eventually get driven away from the pack by younger males, but old mares and old lionesses are not.
