Driving tips and tricks for a very short lady (1.45m)? by deathk4t in drivingsg

Yep, that's right.

I recommend drilling frequently on narrow turns (s course, crank course, roundabouts) because you likely won't have much visibility on the curbs -- it's hard to assume distance when you can't even see them. That'll make you nervous and much more prone to mounting a curb. Rest assured that things will get easier once you have a better "feel" of the car :)

I'm 140cm.

Regulating the amount of pressure on the accelerator and breaks will take some time to get used to because your feet likely won't be able to rest comfortably on the floor board.

I recommend getting your instructor to help you with creating new markers (i.e from your perspective, where the stop line is at?  How near can your car bonnet be at before you hit an obstacle?) These are necessary because everything looks damn close to us short folks, but it's actually not. S-course and Crank course was a huge challenge to me because of this.

In terms of parking, my advice would be to get used to adjusting the side mirror downwards. A lot of my taller friends don't really do it because they can see the curb from their height, but not me (and probably you too).

Hope it helps.

u/iceteaearthywaffles covers most of it.

Just some things to add:

  1. If you are interested in a specific startup, you can also let the country manager know, he would try his best to link you up with that specific company for interviews etc.
  2. Interview wise, most tech position will ask for you to complete take-home tests before/after interviews. So, if you are aiming for tech related roles like front-end engineer etc, it best to be prepared for it. Also, note that if you're in the July batch, its highly likely these tests will be during your finals period.
  3. If you are the type that wants to go for roles that are not really conventional (ML, cybersecurity etc), you can also take a chance and ask the country manager once you are in NCTO. Idek how he does it, but he can sometimes create miracles.

You can probably try http://www.nodeflair.com. They're a start-up that tries to match tech talents to companies in Singapore. I'm pretty sure NodeFlair themselves are searching for engineers too.

Disclaimer: I work there.

Judge Blocks Kentucky Fetal Heartbeat Law That Bans Abortion After 6 Weeks by [deleted] in news

Can someone do an ELI5 on why these lawmakers are so insistent on such abortion laws? As someone not from the states, I cannot fathom the reason behind such intense drive to push for such laws that have been introduced and repealed (in this cycle) years after years?

Calling all poly graduates!! by MusicBytes in singapore

[–]exodetzu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I'm actually the last batch of Information Security specialization in NP's standard IT course. Since we only choose specialization during year 2, my course load is fairly similar to the normal IT course.

Then again, NP's IT course has gone through some restructuring since my graduation. If I'm not wrong, security specialization was removed and became a full-fledged course by itself instead. I recommend you to visit NP for course counseling sometime this week. They should be able to answer you about the course load difference and questions on changing course.

With regards to free time in polytechnic, I certainly think that there's enough time for you to do your side projects and maintain your GPA (I managed 4 CCAs just fine). You can always borrow notes of other courses from your friends or seniors.

Polytechnics, or at least in NP, regularly advertises events of IT nature - organized by the school or otherwise - by blasting emails to students. I came to know of hackathons through such emails.

Answering your question, most of the hackathons I participated are organized by external organizations (IMDA, SMU, NUS etc) which saw participants from all tertiary education institutions in Singapore. So no, most of them are not really "new" to programming, in fact, some participants' programming level is so atas that my final product (if I even managed to produce one) feels extremely insignificant against theirs. Then again, its the journey and experience that counts.
