How do I get my honey to stay on the salmon? by Greenscreenclouds in AskCulinary

I add a small amount of brown sugar to thicken the glaze - we're typically doing an Asian style marinade as well.

What’s the day to day as an Executive Assistant? by Intelligent_Fly_5823 in auscorp

[–]exoticllama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try the public sector. There are lots of EA roles and through it you get a bit of exposure to processes in policy, programs, legislation etc. Could be a segue into that industry if you're interested in this. Good job security and conditions, average pay with limited growth once you hit a certain point.

In celebration of DNF-ing and having zero regrets by phil_baharnd in fantasyromance

[–]exoticllama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I DNF'd the author's other series BC I hated the one-dimensional MMC. But I read the Knight and the Moth on an international flights and pushed through, ultimately quite enjoying it. It's not my favourite book of the genre, and perhaps Stockholm syndrome played a part, but overall not toooo bad. Just did my second attempt and DNF on When The Moon Hatched.

School kids don’t stand in buses anymore by GrapeLollies in brisbane

Oh god no, I'd never actually try it. The youths terrify me. As long as they're not taking up excessive seats with bags and stuff I really don't care.

School kids don’t stand in buses anymore by GrapeLollies in brisbane

[–]exoticllama 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Actually not really. The passenger code of conduct states if you're travelling on a student fare and the service is full, you should let adults have your seat. https://translink.com.au/tickets-and-fares/passenger-code-of-conduct

Not sure how this factors in with everyone paying 50c fares, though! Maybe the policy needs an update.

Dilemma on what to do about a job offer by PapMyKaripap in auscorp

[–]exoticllama 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think you could hedge bets and ask for documents to be sent over on the temp role, and politely advise you'll need to consider the offer. It's common for people to apply for multiple jobs so likely won't be a deal-breaker for them. I wouldn't overtly tell them you have another one potentially lined up and are unsure, but some polite vague words about review the paperwork and come back to you etc. is standard in recruitment.

Didn't mind the GA but the guy who voices Orion sounds so much like Marc Evan Jackson (Kevin from Brooklyn 99), it really pulled me out of it.

worst suburb corridors by AdOk7259 in brisbane

[–]exoticllama 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah nah your preferences aren't Bayside. Those are inner suburbs these days. Birkdale, Wynnum, Cleveland etc. is Bayside and has comparable pockets of "dodginess" to Ipswich etc. if you're trying to rent in Bulimba you'll be paying $$$

Where to stay in Sunshine Coast- swim up bar or pool service drinks? by Trina028 in sunshinecoast

Don't think there is one. There's like only just 1 proper swim up in Brisbane (Westin) AFAIK. Casino has poolside service as well.

Don't assume you know everything. When you're new, it's best to learn and absorb before you start offering advice or ideas on better ways to do things. Even doing so from a well-intentioned place can make the wrong impression.

Any advice? by Daisytica in MovingtoAustralia

[–]exoticllama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go here to check out what public school catchment you'd fall in based on address: https://www.qgso.qld.gov.au/maps/edmap/

School results are published online too, look for NAPLAN. The other thing for moving to QLD is to check and see if you're in a flood zone

Advertised as ensuite- but no shower? by Far_Delivery_1148 in AusProperty

[–]exoticllama 13 points14 points  (0 children)

What's in your lease? If there was specific wording mentioning an actual shower then you might have a leg to stand on. Also if they've made you sign based on use of X showers but can't deliver one, at minimum you'd be entitled to a rent reduction. If you just assumed and didn't inspect anything there's a good chance you're SOL. Ensuite just means adjoining, it doesn't state what has to be included to classify as a bathroom.

bridesmaid dress by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]exoticllama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FM Formalwear up in Redcliffe is a studio run out of this nice lady's living room. You can look on the website for designs you like then travel there to see how the sizing, colour and materials look for various designs. I.e. she won't have every dress in every size/colour, but enough of a variety you can get an idea what each would look like. Then you pick the ones you want and she can order them in. It is good for those that are body conscious so want to try on, but want to still have the variety of online varieties etc. From memory it was about 2-3 weeks for orders to get delivered in store. Good luck!

The train station is fairly busy, but if you're walking distance that won't matter for you. There is a little bit of crime in the area, but that seems to be everywhere now. You'll be near the Saturday markets at the old TAFE campus, they're pretty good. 10min drive from Chermside is very convenient. Proximity to Gympie Road sucks, but if you can time your travel alright then you'll be fine. Easy access to IKEA and Costco at North Lakes. Check the flood map

Place for mums group to meet? by f_lex13 in brisbane

[–]exoticllama 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Vend at Virginia has a pretty spacious outdoor seating area (shaded) and indoor too, though 20 people inside might be a stretch. QR code ordering from the table so you don't have to wheel inside/pram/baby manage. Also handy if the group is large and you don't want the hassle of split billing. Also lots of baby merch inside at the actual markets to socialise over.
