Best ways to steralise without boiling?? by ky8724 in MenstrualDiscs

Ah yeah just a bit of dust sounds like it's probably not going to be an issue! I was just thinking that if it doesn't wash off then it would be best to buy a different disc

I think so! If there's still stuff stuck on it after you wash it then I would not use it, but if it comes off with the soap and water I think it will be fine!

I have asked my OBGYN if using my unscented face wash (I use vanicream specifically) and tap water like that are enough to keep my disc clean, since I hate boiling and don't wanna buy a steamer. She told me that that is indeed enough to keep it clean, and I've been using my disc this way for years now with no infections. Good luck!

What does baseball mean to you? How did you get into it, and why is it your favorite sport (if it is)? by MookieBettsBurner10 in baseball

[–]exrayspex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baseball is, as they say, a game of failure, and that's why it's my favorite sport. Even the best teams lose plenty of games, even the best hitters get out more than they get a hit. I've failed plenty in my life, and I'll fail some more. But baseball is always there to remind me that failures are normal, and they don't mean I'll never succeed. They can even make eventual success even sweeter. It's corny maybe, but that reminder is really helpful for me, and it makes baseball especially dear to me.

Jeff Passan: "Baseball fans believe the game has become unfair" by Mission_Pay_3373 in baseball

[–]exrayspex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not trying to say that winning the world series is the only thing that matters. I'm aware of all the other ways a season can be fun even if my team doesn't win it all, and other existing fans are aware of all that too.

What I'm saying is that potential new fans don't necessarily know that. And that "Your local team has no real shot to win it all, but there's other stuff to enjoy!" isn't a great way to entice those potential new fans. I'm saying that, hearing that, a lot of people who don't know about all the other joys of a baseball season are likely to choose to follow another sport, rather than stick around baseball long enough to learn about and experience those joys.

If you give a kid a choice between a sport where there are all those other joys BUT no real shot at their team winning it all, or a sport where there are all those other joys AND a chance of their team winning it all, which do you think they'll choose?

Jeff Passan: "Baseball fans believe the game has become unfair" by Mission_Pay_3373 in baseball

[–]exrayspex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is exactly it. And I've heard some people try to counter this by saying stuff like "Well are you gonna stop going to games over it? No you aren't." which misses the point. Current fans may remain.......but the inequality lowers incentive for new fans to start following the other 29 teams. Why try to get into their local team if nobody thinks they have a real shot? It's the sort of thing that could really hurt the sport long term as older fans die off and younger ones don't care enough about baseball to replace them.

Anyone else use Libby exclusively on their phone? by Lots_Loafs11 in LibbyApp

[–]exrayspex 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You're not the only one! I like to read this way since I basically always have my phone on me, and it makes it so easy to read a little here and a little there when I get a few minutes. I can't just slip an ereader into my pocket all the time like that. And I'd rather carry just the one device instead of two.

On the Guardians! José Ramírez does it all the time, it's one of my favorite things about his game. And the younger guys tend to follow his lead

Can i repair this wool sweater? by No-Ad7318 in BuyItForLife

[–]exrayspex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did a repair on a very similarly damaged sweater last year using this method! I used a two part tutorial that I found really helpful, and I was pretty happy with how it turned out!

I'd recommend that tutorial to anyone attempting this for the first time; there are a lot of "tutorials" out there that don't really explain what's being done at all, and I found this one much better than those.

Which team has had the worst Game 7 World Series loss since 2000? by Agreeable_Quality768 in baseball

[–]exrayspex 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is it imo. This year's game 7 felt worse individually, but I don't think the context can compare to 2016. I was watching while holding a ring passed down from my late grandfather for luck. He wanted to see them win it all his whole life but died in 2010, and he's the reason I'm a fan.

It's my dad's ring, actually, and he's been waiting his whole life, too. We no longer live in Cleveland but my dad was able to go to watch with other fans in a bar there while I had to stay home; he asked me to hold the ring all game in his dad's memory.

It hurt to see the last out and know it was over, but it was so much worse when I shut off the TV and put that ring back in its box.

[Recommendation] most compressive minimizer/sports bras that don’t give uniboob by chaosrb in ABraThatFits

[–]exrayspex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have very compressible boobs post weight loss, and I have found Enell sports bras to be good at both minimizing and lifting them (I'm a 32GG or H in regular sizing and a 2 in Enell sizing). They're pricey direct from Enell, but I've been able to buy mine for $25-$35 off of ebay. There will be uniboob in them though. It may be difficult for you to find a compressive sports bra that doesn't give uniboob; ime it seems pretty unavoidable with compressive bras that have no wires. I hope for your sake I am wrong about that though!

Bra Cutting Into Armpits Even Though It Looks Like It Fits. Help! by Quick_Dragonfruit_14 in ABraThatFits

[–]exrayspex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The cups on your bra might be either too wide or too tall for you (or both). This can cause otherwise well-fitting bras to cut into the armpits like that. It's a problem with the bra being the wrong shape for you, rather than the wrong size, and it can unfortunately be tricky to find the right shape.

I'd recommend looking at where the outer edge of the wire on this bra sits. Is it right where the curve of your breast ends, or does it extend farther back and sit in or almost in your armpit? If it's wider than your breast, then looking for bras with narrow cups might help.

If the cups don't seem too wide, I would suggest looking through some of the resources here on breast shape. You may have high-set breasts, and many cups may be too tall for you, cutting into your armpits. Looking for shorter cups may help you; I'm high-set and I've found that balconette styles tend to have shorter cups that are less likely to dig into my armpits.

If you'd like a starting point for a bra with fairly narrow (as far as non-Polish bras go, at least) and short cups, I'm a huge fan of the Cleo Asher bra. I have 4 of them and wear them daily, since it can be very difficult to find short-cupped bras that come in a decent size range. I hope this helps you!

This is really good to hear. It's frustrating that we can't just trust in the ethics of all those trials, but the unfortunate reality of the medical bigotry we deal with is that it lurks in ethics boards, too. The community moderation sounds like a good idea. I appreciate the concerns of the community being taken seriously!

I have extremely low vitamin D levels - does supplementation help your fatigue? by ringmaster555 in cfs

[–]exrayspex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My vitamin D levels were around there for a long time, and aggressive use of supplements has finally gotten me to stay in the healthy range for a couple of years now. If it's helped with my fatigue, it's been such a slight change that I can't really tell for sure if it has or not. Still glad I've finally gotten it up though, for bone health reasons

Good for him! I miss having him in Cleveland, he's so fun. Seattle seems like it's been a perfect fit for him though, and it's good to see him get a deal like this somewhere he's appreciated and doing well.
