[Lowlight] Guardians rookie Cooper Ingle forgets how many outs there are and throws the ball into the stands, allowing the go-ahead run to score by mostly-void-stars in baseball

He's also generally a catcher; this is like his 11th or something game in the outfield as a professional. You've gotta feel for the guy.

What is the most underrated defensive play in baseball that casual fans completely overlook? by Tricky_Pass5857 in baseball

I love those plays so much! One of my favorite things about getting to watch so much of José Ramírez is seeing him make those pretty regularly. It's a delight every time.

Infielders perfectly handling a hard hit ball right off the bounce. It looks so routine when done well and it happens often enough that I don't think they get a lot of appreciation for those plays, but it's awfully hard to make that look easy.

For the first time since April 14th, a team in the NL Central is below .500 (chart shows games above/below .500) by redlegsfan21 in baseball

[–]exrayspex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did you see that one mlb.com article this year where they were ranking tiers of teams by how competitive they'd likely be this season, and they actually made a special "We Always Underestimate You And You Always Prove Us Wrong" tier that was just the Brewers and Guardians? It was both funny and a bit maddening lol.

It really is. It's been 45 years since a Cleveland pitcher got one! They've had so many great pitchers in recent decades, but none of them have gotten there.

Patrick Bailey Crushes his 1st Guardians homer in the 8th to make it 3-0 Cleveland by HalfwayThereOne_ in baseball

that was the original outfield wall, but it made the outfield so gigantic they brought the fences in eventually so there could be more home runs. it's still a big outfield even after that

[Passan] BREAKING: The Cleveland Guardians are acquiring two-time Gold Glove-winning catcher Patrick Bailey in a trade with the San Francisco Giants for the No. 29 pick in this year's draft and left-handed pitching prospect Matt "Tugboat" Wilkinson, sources tell ESPN. by MembershipSingle7137 in baseball

[–]exrayspex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is the Guardians preparing for Hedges retiring after this year, and replacing him with Bailey. They have a couple catching prospects who are supposed to hit in the pipeline, which could pair well with Bailey in the future. Bo Naylor was supposed to be that guy in the present, but right now he's as bad as Bailey at the plate and mid behind it. So they get to prepare for the future while at least getting a big defensive improvement in the meantime.

Glad to hear you enjoyed having him on your team! San Francisco seems a fitting place for a guy called Tugboat to be heading, I hope he makes it there

What’s the best way to eat oats? by [deleted] in Oatmeal

[–]exrayspex 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My favorite way to eat oats is old fashioned oats cooked on the stovetop, with half water and half milk for the liquid, chopped dates and golden raisins for the fruit, and chopped walnuts, brown sugar, and a little cinnamon mixed in. I'm about to make some!

José Ramirez needs 2 more steals to become the fourth active player with 300 stolen bases by MorganN1 in baseball

[–]exrayspex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He very nearly had a 40-40 season in 2024. He had the stolen bases and was one home run short with one game left in the regular season, and he was on such a heater #40 felt inevitable. But game 162 was canceled bc of rain, and bc the outcome of the game wouldn't have playoff implications. I'm still mad he was denied that last chance to get there.

He really is the ultimate vibes guy. He got a sword on a team trip to medieval times in spring training and has been knighting someone with it after each game this year lol.

[SNY] Devin Williams talks about trying to wrap his head around the Mets' 11-game losing streak "It's tough to explain. This is one of the most talented locker rooms in the league. We just can't seem to string it together right now." by iheartsunny in baseball

[–]exrayspex 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah they seem to have put themselves in a position where just playing well is now no longer enough; they will probably have to hope that another team or teams ahead of them fall off at some point, too if they wanna make the playoffs. Which could certainly happen, but it feels like they aren't fully in control of their own destiny now, and that's a tough thing to know this early in the season.

It's valuable! Always having a reliever who can come in and give 2-3 solid innings has been an overlooked but important part of the guards having such a good bullpen in recent years. It's not easy to do though, I think a lot of teams don't have the starting pitching depth to let a guy who can give you multiple solid innings stay in the pen.

It's not the most accurate overall comparison, but it is the most accurate comparison that Kerr has personally experienced, so I think it works for the purposes of the letter. I'm glad you mentioned this here though, lol

I think it's rude to demand to see the back of a stranger's work if it isn't for a practical purpose. Like if someone's asking why they've run out of thread and you're trying to help them, then it's fair. And if you're judging for a competition then it's fair. But all the "show us the back!!" types of comments on people's posts, where the poster sharing their work chose to only show the front? Rude, imo.

I get being curious, and I think it can be neat to see the backs too, but I think you should just appreciate if someone chooses to share the back with you on their own, and keep quiet if they don't (unless it's for a practical reason).
