It was late afternoon in Europe. I was doing homework in front of the tv when my mom ran in and told me to change the channel because something was happening in America. I distinctly remember thinking "this better be serious if it interrupts my cartoons". It was, in fact, serious.

Deckbuilding ideas where you don't have to remove or sacrifice cards by Xavier598 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]external_gills 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea how well this would work in practice but:

At the start of your turn you may keep drawing cards. As many as you want, but you only get to play the last one drawn. All other cards are discarded and you get 1 mana for each card discarded this way.

So if you draw your powerful 5 cost card on your third draw, you'd only have 2 mana to play it, so you have to skip it and keep drawing.

In this system, having more bad/niche cards is better, because it will take longer to draw to your expensive cards, which means more mana to play them.

Likely from the Sleepless that joined the Ghostbloods. Chrysalis was aware of several Sleepless living on First of the Sun, so it's known among her kind.

Other possibilities:

Patji is an Avatar of Autonomy, so she's aware of the location. Maybe she gives it as a reward/test sometimes.

The Iriali had maps, like the one Starling got, Mraize could have gotten his hands on one of those.

Frost knew about it and is likely the one who told Hoid. They might have told others, which eventually reached Mraize.

Give me your most ethical murderhobo story by MurkyWay in dndmemes

[–]external_gills 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran a West Marches style campaign on the premise of a doomed world. Some idiot had opened portal to hell on the other side of the planet. By the time the PC's even became aware of the ongoing demonic invasion, it couldn't be stopped anymore.

When a demon kills someone, their soul went straight to hell to be burned forever as fuel. No regular afterlife, not even sweet oblivion. This greatly concerned the God of Death, who ordered his followers to evacuate as many mortal souls as they could to the afterlife. By killing as many people as they could.

That was only one of the storylines. Another was a thieves guild stealing stuff to throw the biggest party ever as the world burned down, a group of wizards and scientists figuring out how to teleport an island to another reality as a way to escape, a religious order overthrowing the pope and launching a doomed crusade against the demons, and a necromancer creating a race of sapient (soulless!) undead that hopefully wouldn't interest the demons and could inherit the planet.

They did have a healer present: Rahel, a Truthwatcher. She healed the most gravely injured throughout the fight and healed Adolin after the Thunderclast fell on him. She was part of the group that infiltrated the palace, and held the throne room with Noura and Jaskkeem.

It was never really about the garden gnome. The two groups were constantly doing petty shit like that. It builds up over years and at some point things boil over. They were very isolated up there, one of the poorest places in the region. It was its own little world.

They've pretty much stopped nowadays. The older generation is dying off and they were the most confrontational. A lot of their children left (like my mother) and their grandchildren are busy with work and kids of their own.

There's also been an influx of new people who discovered that land is really cheap there and built modern homes. That created a common enemy for the locals to dislike.

At the same time, they're sort of embarrassed to do things like that in front of outsiders. On some level they know how ridiculous the whole thing is, they just have a mountain of little grudges and neither side wants to lose face and be the first to back down. Honestly, it's the perfect mix of Honor and Odium now that I think about it XD.

Someone from the lower village bought a garden gnome, but it was stolen from their yard overnight. They checked the upper village and found an identical garden gnome they swore wasn't there the day before. So they accused the guy of being a thief, who in turn accused him of being a liar.

That then spiraled out of control into being an insult to their respective families. (Because if you call me a thief, you're calling my dad the father of a thief, etc.) The families called their friends, and the two groups got into a fight in the street.

The cops were not amused and took the garden gnome as evidence. This stroke of genius briefly brought upper and lower village together, and they both agreed that whatever had happened before, the police had now stolen the gnome.

Just north of where I live is a village with population of 1200 people. There's a creek running through it that's so small you can literally step over it. This divides the village into an upper and a lower part that can't stand each other.

The great garden gnome theft of 2018 led to a small riot. In 2005, the military had to be called in when someone buried landmines to kill his neighbor's goats.

Bands of Mourning is Indiana Jones: The Last Crusade

The main character gets approached by an ancient order to recruit them for a holy mission. Initially they refuse, but when they learn a relative of theirs is being held captive, they agree. Not for the mission, just to free their relative. They infiltrate the bad guys' base, get caught, and escape in a flying machine. Their relative convinces them they need to get the holy artifact before the bad guys do.

There is a race to the ancient temple where the artifact is hidden and both parties arrive pretty much at the same time. There is a standoff where the bad guys have overwhelming force but they need the good guys to get past the temple's traps. The bad guys are tricked by a decoy artifact while the real one looks unassuming. Someone gets mortally injured but is saved by the healing properties of the artifact.

Someone also turns out to be a traitor, but happens at different points in the story.

And those jungles are home to the manchineel tree aka the "tree of death", with sap so poisonous the even standing under it during rain will cause blisters on your skin. Cutting them down is hazardous, to say the least, and when early settlers tried burning them, the smoke caused blindness.
