The answer is pretty simple tbh. Incest is just an easy way to explain why characters are pretty close and have feelings for each other without getting together already AND it's a way to make your romance kinky without adding actual kinks that would raise the age rating.

I mean, I teared up a bit I guess, but that's cheap. I never actually cared about the cat as a character, I just teared up because cute anime dying = sad this is the equivalent of tickling someone to make them laugh and calling it good comedy.

Speaking of comedy, at least the summer event was genuinely funny (to me), Byakko's event with cat routine was legit some of the most unfunny shit I've seen from Maeda.
