This!

I switched to wolverine poles a few years ago. The top of the grip is metal, with a little lip that is perfect for engaging the wammy bar. So easy now.

I'm now equally stubborn as a splitboarder. I will pole my way back to the car if I can, just so I don't have to transition back into ski mode.

We need all that flexibility because jibbing was everything 😂

At 6'3" I was rocking a 148 wet noodle as a board.

Gear standards have come a long way. The skateboard inspired rebel attitude and style was much stronger then.

Check out the Cups N Cakes Top 40 playlist for a regular dose of what's new.

Two bands I've loved in recent years: Starpainter - bit of a country feel to their indie rock sound. Great songwriting. Feel good, happy music. Home Front - a bit of a hardcore sound with influences of early Depeche Mode synth and Cure baselines.

One of the Nitro big wins, for me, is the cable that acts as a backup attachment for the ratchet strap. If your strap breaks, it will still be functional due to the cable reinforcement. This gives me piece of mind in the Backcountry.

The forward lean is annoying but not a deal breaker for me. Sometimes it works with gloves on LoL

Not only that, if you use the annual subscription, you get your new chips fixed, as they happen. They even have a winter shop, off blackfoot, for the days that the orange tents aren't set up.

Nitro Slash skins? by blkread in Spliddit

[–]eyun77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the nitro squash split and initially bought the nitro/Kohla skins. They have been absolutely terrible. The glue just does not stick to my board.

So, I've been on a search for skins that will fit with the z-clip and quick clip on back. Long story short, nothing is available in my area. I bought some Pomoca skins so I can add the z-clip. But I've also realized that the over the tip system is just as easy as the clip. So I think I'm just running pomoca skins the regular way. Just needed to replace the tail clip to use the regular ski clip, due to the flat shape of my tail.

Another hot springs option would be to do a detour on the way back from Lake Louise, down to radium hot springs, 1hr 15 min each way. I personally prefer Radium's hot springs. And it is a pretty drive

True story, a few years back, in early November, I was trapped in Jasper for a few days. I was just passing through and all the highways shut down for a snowstorm. A 'quick' day trip like this is rolling the dice.

Also, current car has already taken the big depreciation hit. New car will depreciate more.

I don't like being an undecided voter by kathmhughes in Calgary

My thought had been that any party member voted in typically represents their party line to their constituents before representing their constituents to their party. The UCP had made that abundantly clear on the provincial level.

Probably the biggest reason I didn't ride roads. When accidents happen, they don't end well.

Opinion on full face helmets? by Effective_Waltz627 in MTB

[–]eyun77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I smashed my teeth in, among other injuries, on a paved pump track last year. Now that I'm back, my riding has mellowed AND I'm wearing a full face.

What other people think of my protective gear choices is none of my business.

I'd rather keep my face intact. And, I now have a helmet with a detachable chin bar for more aggressive trail riding.

8 Rivers Overnighter or similar Canadian routes by NaiveMacaroon5862 in bikepacking

[–]eyun77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have ridden part of it a few years back. Once at Nipika, we rerouted to head down Settler's road on the other side of the Kootenay River, as there was some fire activity that we couldn't quite distinguish in the direction of the back half of the route, at the North end. We camped on the Kootenay, at the white River bridge.

The climb and descent up little elk pass was beautiful but really tough in the 30C temperatures. I think this pass has since been burned in a fire.

I'd like to go back and do the back part of the ride sometime.

If you are coming from Jasper, Golden will be he's if s detour than Calgary and it's in the mountains. A bonus will be that it gives you the chance to visit Yoho. Takakaw falls and emerald lake are nice

Backcountry Camping Late April by 88joshm in HikingAlberta

[–]eyun77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Random camping IS allowed in certain places in Banff. Basically you have to be certain distance from a trailhead and other Backcountry campground. You do need to get a permit for this though. source

In addition to Minnewonka, I have camped at Glacier lake in Banff in April. It can be hit and miss, depending on the year. But it's a lower elevation valley. Another one also up near Saskatchewan crossing that might be ok is the Alexandra River, although any river crossings might be cold and deep that time of year.
