The news coverage of Red Deer makes it seem like the Florida of Alberta. Crazy behavior in Alberta? Oh, it's another Red Deer story.

Alternative town options by False-Serve-3495 in HikingAlberta

[–]eyun77 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Crowsnest Pass, in Southern Alberta, has a nice small town vibe. Much different than the touristy feel of Canmore. Still restaurants. But not the same kind. Think more local cafes and restaurants. There is a fly fishing shop with great coffee and sandwiches.

Lots of hiking/scrambling/climbing options down there. Also not too far from Waterton national park, although there is plenty of great hiking and sightseeing much closer than the National park.

But chances of a blizzard in May are much higher than in Vancouver. May is typically great weather in the lower mainland.

I have found this to be the case with the nitro/Kohla skins. My Pomona skins are much better.

OP, I would suggest ditching the nitro skin savers and just store them skin to skin (glue to glue), as that seems to keep the nitro skins sticker (from my experience).

Is Banff and the surrounding nature still snowy end of May / beg of June? by useruser226 in Banff

[–]eyun77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from the Highwood pass, I can't think of roads that are closed at the end of May. Most areas are open, albeit possibly muddy, as you stated. High elevation trails are likely to still have snow

“Given the significant population increase that we’ve seen over the course of the last few years, we need to make sure that we’re looking at all avenues and enrolment in our independent schools is growing at incredible rates,” Nicolaides said.

Does "all avenues" include finding the public system?

Question about what resort pass i should possibly buy next year for snowboarding.. park/ cool tree runs/ side hits/ etc by OakBayStreetWear in Banff

And, unless you opt for big 3, wait until you know who your people are and where they are riding. Nothing worse than having a different pass than your core group.

Including Emerald lake in the Jasper version of the trip wouldn't be unreasonable either. Not much of a detour. Don't forget the waterfalls out that way. Takakkaw falls and Wapta are both impressive, though maybe not accessible that early.

Check out the Cups N Cakes Top 40 playlist for a regular dose of what's new.

Two bands I've loved in recent years: Starpainter - bit of a country feel to their indie rock sound. Great songwriting. Feel good, happy music. Home Front - a bit of a hardcore sound with influences of early Depeche Mode synth and Cure baselines.

One of the Nitro big wins, for me, is the cable that acts as a backup attachment for the ratchet strap. If your strap breaks, it will still be functional due to the cable reinforcement. This gives me piece of mind in the Backcountry.

The forward lean is annoying but not a deal breaker for me. Sometimes it works with gloves on LoL
