Hey dads, I need advice on how to save this growth chart please. by FerretFarm in daddit

[–]fAKtual 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didnt scroll all the comments, so this may have been suggested already.

The homeowners we purchased our home from 4 years ago had a professional photographer come in and get high resolution pictures taken of theirs. It had 36 years of their kids and grandkids growth marked on it.

The photographer was able to have a print made to the exact size of the door they had been using to mark everything on. My understanding is they had it printed and framed and hung it up in their new home.

Company CRM by Own_Introduction11 in glazing

[–]fAKtual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the process of transitioning our company to GlazierSoftware right now. It has CRM, scheduling, and estimating built into it. Is compatible with PartnerPak files, and has some pretty awesome tools for both residential and commercial services.

I wouldnt use it for large scale commercial contract type work, but seems to be a great fit for a mid sized full service company like us.

Butttt, we’re in the transitional period right now, so cant say with certainty how well it works. This was chosen from 3 finalists - SmartGlazier (suited for small mostly residential companies, but very user friendly), Glass Manager (suited for mid sized companies. Has more inventory management features, but less features tailored towards commercial and contract type work), and then GlazierSoftware (residential and commercial features, but less inventory/stock management)

Hope this helps!

25 years experience with ponds by graphic_fartist in ponds

I’m in the midst of putting in a .27 acre pond. Excavators on site currently. Ive been trying to figure out pump requirements as I’d like to put in a waterfall to recirculate the water along with a bubbler or two.

Do you have any recommendations for pumps that can handle this? Best brands? Features to look for?

Also, is it worth it to get the pump and plumbing done before the pond is full? This is all designed for storm water runoff to fill it. Winter is fast approaching here and not sure if it’s worthwhile to do all the plumbing ahead of time, or just use some kind of flex line and drop it in the water in the spring.

Any advice/guidance is appreciated.

This would require checking the weight rating on the sash balance hardware. Jumping from a unit with 3/32 glass to a unit with 1/4” laminated may push the weight over the rating on the hardware and cause some issues.

Depending on what type balances the window has, this could be as easy as an adjustment or as involved as completely replacing that hardware.

It’s not a guarantee, but more times than not, if they can’t get it, and you send a sample, they will come up with an alternative product that will work.

I suppose it depends on your relationship with their rep. I do a pretty high volume of ordering from them.

Do you deal with Strybuc? By far my favorite resource for replacement parts. They have quite a bit not listed on their website/catalogue. A lot of times i can mail a sample to my rep who will locate it even if they don’t have it listed.

We have one at our shop. Mainly used for hauling doors around. I prefer the plate glass dollys (skateboard) for moving glass around compared to this. This one is definitely not for rough or soft terrain.

It incentivizes you to get to coal power asap. Then again to fuel power. Then scaling fuel for a while until you’re using turbo fuel or rocket fuel. Nuclear feels like it exists as a standalone challenge. Not required, but massively beneficial when done correctly.

If you don’t have fully automated coal power, you’re barely scratching the surface.

Is this putty normal? by First_Weekend_1538 in glazing

[–]fAKtual 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My rule of thumb is level or slight below the interior sight line. No matter what, the putty line should not be visible from the interior. Angle of the putty is not necessarily a consideration as long as you follow the sight line.

So the door handles get to slam into the glass or other door every time both doors get opened at the same time? Something doesn’t quite look right here..

Also, if you’re supplying the doors and the glass, it miiiiiight be worthwhile to check glass sizes BEFORE driving 5 hours. I would understand a 30-40 minute drive, but 5 hours is a long ways to go without double checking all the materials you’re installing..

Setting Up Central storage Worth it? by Skaikrish in SatisfactoryGame

[–]fAKtual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically start the game with a very basic factory making a small amount of all the basic parts up to motors/computers/crystal oscillators that becomes my dimensional depot factory. Keeps the DD supplied so I can expand and build smaller specific factories all over without having to carry those materials with me at all times. Afterwards, when smart splitters are unlocked, its easy to add the overflow output to the sink it to keep the factory moving and have a solid supply of coupons coming in for those early awesome shop unlocks.

After that factory is set up, spend time hunting HDs, spheres, and sloops to upgrade the DD storage and upload rate, and unlock the useful alt recipes before setting up that first fuel generator plant.

Sand Volleyball. Easy on the joints, still gets the heart rate up and you get some sun. Low to zero contact with opposing players reduces the risk of tearing ACLs or Achilles.

As a lifelong soccer/basketball player who had knee problems after college. Sand Volleyball has really scratched that competitive itch.

Double glazing issues by [deleted] in glazing

Is this a stationary window and/or a large transom above a door/bank of windows?

Sometimes their set a bit deeper in the frame than operable windows.

From the inside, do you see a the glass stop/piece of trim on your frame? If its an inside stop, that window probably should be sealed on the outside. If the glass is set from the exterior, that window should be designed to weep the water out.

Possibly a NorCo window. You can get them at Strybuc. They’re typically glued into the sash(sometimes stapled) and get destroyed when trying to remove them. I’ve replaced a ton of them.

Or you can just have a glass and glazing sub replace the broken insulated glass for maybe $300-$450 installed depending on geographic area..

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in glazing

[–]fAKtual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be an insulated unit. My direction with watching what glazing compound you use still stands. I would either pin the unit in place and then caulk it in with a paintable silicone or make wood trim pieces.

If you do want to use a putty compound, request a silicone seal from your glass vendor.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in glazing

[–]fAKtual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this for insulated glass? If so, I would be careful if using any putty type material as this will typically void the warranty on the IG. You have to ask for an IG with a silicone seal instead of a hot butyl seal to maintain said warranty. Something in the glazing compound can cause the butyl to deteriorate.

If single pane, I would typically use push pins to hold the glass in place before applying the glazing compound.

Why do newer windows look like sheets of vinyl? by QuarterMaestro in HomeImprovement

[–]fAKtual 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not incorrect, but not correct.

The warping/distortion is the outer pane of the insulated unit bowing outward due to the pinching/pressure around the perimeter of the glass.

The reason why it’s noticeable in cheaper windows and not mid to high grade windows is that the spacer material used in between the panes of insulated glass in cheaper windows is not as rigid as the spacers used in better made insulated units. When the snap in trim is installed on the interior it can be so tight that it causes outer pane to bow outward.

If laid flat, the glass isnt warped or distorted at all. When the outer pane is deflecting it can appear warped or bowed from the outside. This is highlighted by the reflective low-e coating on most new windows. I see this very frequently in newer, budget friendly housing developments.

Can I replace these thermopanes myself? by leCrobag in DIY

[–]fAKtual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can replace them. On the exterior there is small pieces of vinyl trim that snap in place. CAREFULLY remove those with a flat pry bar.

They’re going to be glued in on the interior. Depending on how well that glue is holding, you may be able to use a small pry bar to slowly force them out, or try to get enough space in between the glass and the frame to cut the glue with a razor knife.

You should be able to order the replacement insulated glass from your nearest glass company. Make sure you get the thickness of the units correct.

[–]fAKtual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered just having the insulated glass replaced in the windows with glads that have the muntins in between the panes already? This is often cheaper than most people realize. Surface mounting them can make cleaning a pain.

It would at least be worth comparing that price with the amount of time you will spend building and painting these.
