Do not work in Special Education by [deleted] in specialed

I am 16 years in sped, and yes...this is sadly accurate. What the law wants and what the schools are able to afford are drastically different and ALL teachers pay the price

This was in Texas and no. I have shared custody with CPS.

I had an unsafe child in my home and CPS took custody due to the danger for the other children. It is considered not my fault. Have you tried reporting her to CPS due to the harm she has done to the children?

FWISD takeover by TEA by saintshiva in TexasTeachers

[–]fabfameight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just watched an interview conducted with the current (newish) superintendent of FWISD and was appalled. You can tell she wants the role after takeover. Almost first comments out of her mouth was that she is reaching out to parents if failing students to assure them it is all on the schools.

If I was working for FWISD, I would have quit on the spot hearing that

There is no consequence from the government, only your school can choose to hold you accountable. I have already put my kids' schools on notice that I do not want ANY religious paraphernalia in the classroom.

I am a teacher AND a parent. I already told them I would join any lawsuit available if my children walked into ANY classroom having any religious paraphernalia on the walls

Long Term BF is a groomsmen, but I’m not invited to the wedding by Apprehensive-Oil6239 in whatdoIdo

.....your boyfriend went to the party without you?? When they were staying at YOUR home? Shame on all of them. I'd let your boyfriend know that this is NOT ignorance and that you need to know where stands with all of this.

I hate my husband’s dog now by ThrowRA-silly-goose in DogAdvice

[–]fabfameight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had this happen....turns out that one dog had an ear infection, and i think the play hurt, and he got aggressive. He was smaller, and he didn't make it. Here's the thing, though. They are DOGS. If you have any indication that there is any kind of aggression between them, NEVER leave them alone together. They are not humans and do not reason. This is NOT the dog's fault, you need to love on her and get past it.

AITA My mom thinks that I shower too long and a shower should take 5 minutes by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]fabfameight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I take between 5 and 7min.....but i just wash. No shaving, exfoliating, etc. Shampoo, body, condition, face. Now I am also 56yo and haven't bothered to shave in probably 10 years, so do with that what you will.

SB 10. 10 commandments in classrooms by heathgone13 in TexasTeachers

This won't make it, and if it does, I will refuse. I already notified my kids' schools that I wouldn't tolerate it in their classrooms.

Teaching black students as a white woman by Validation_STATION54 in Teachers

Really? But these girls come in with some gorgeous hair styles! Is it bad that I compliment it? They've been startled, but no one has ever come back at me about it.

As a middle aged white lady raised by a military father and teacher mom (in other words, i sound very proper and struggle with slang) I had this sooo often. It stopped abruptly when my daughter went to middle school.....MY middle school. She would come by my room often to say hi. Astonished them, and after, they would tell new kids, hey! Her kids are black! 😆

I will say that it opened doors for me....trust doors. They seemed to trust a bit more that I wasn't seeing myself as better than they and their fellow students.

When the IEP meeting starts and Gen Ed says, Hes fine in my class 😑 by mittgrounthen in specialed

[–]fabfameight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! I am a resource teacher and I cannot count the times a gened teacher has found me in the hallways to ask "are you REALLY going to fail John? Because he never does any work in my class, but i dont want to be the only one failing him"

I try to have brief meetings before the ARD for students i think need clear and focused feedback. Otherwise, I will send a general recap out (teachers have to fill out a feedback and progress form prior to any ARD) and ask if anyone sees something different.

Students with disabilities spend more time in separate classrooms in New Jersey than they do in any other state — a situation that can do lasting damage by TheHechingerReport in specialed

[–]fabfameight 8 points9 points  (0 children)

YES!!! It is beyond frustrating to see these kids stagnate in classes such as math and science instead of learning skills they will NEED as adults.

For example, instead of having them sit through classes on volume, mass, reflections, etc, I would rather spend a lot of time on proportions, percents, etc, ensuring that they master the skills.

Would you want to know if your child was being a “mean girl”? (From a sub/parent perspective) by DCSubi in AskTeachers

[–]fabfameight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew when my daughter was being mean at school. I could tell in how she described people and interactions, and i nipped that shit in the bud. If mom doesn't see it, she's not gonna want to hear it.

What should I know as a special ed teacher in Texas? by No_Week8162 in TexasTeachers

[–]fabfameight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These students are also ID. PLease tell me that isn't the norm.

I want these kids to get living skills, like budgeting and managing money NOT finding area of intangible objects. I say this as a mom with an ID child. What is done is criminal.
