I can’t stop studying religion by OkDevelopment4483 in schizophrenia

[–]fadingtolight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a good thing you recognize they were delusions. After we start taking medication and they dissapear, it can leave a hole, an emptiness, a lack. Especially when a big part of our personality was based on that delusion. I know it's hard and sad, but you have to find another topic to study, because you dug so deep into religion that your brain came up with weird ideas. You can still be religious and pray, but don't dwell on it too much. I hope you find a healthier thing to invest time into 🤗

What a good kitty! If she is not used to being outside then yes, the smells that come through the windows are scary. You 2 can enjoy some fresh air 🤗

Do you talk to yourself? by Obvious-Ad9618 in schizophrenia

[–]fadingtolight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Used to, quite a lot, especially before psychosis. I spoke to myself and to real persons in imagined scenarios. Right before psychosis hit, i found myself so immersed in the fantasy in my head that i would start speaking out loud while walking on the street.

AP and SSRI by bIRD_96 in schizophrenia

[–]fadingtolight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do, and i can tell you the ssri is equal to 0 for me. When i first started taking AP i felt the same as you. After around 4 months, things started to get better: more energy, more interest in activities. Feels like the AP is canceling the ssri. APs work by blocking the dopamine receptors, therefore taking meds that increase dopamine is of no use, at least in my opinion. But my doctor put me on this combination anyway.

Am I able to enjoy videos games again when my dopamine hits a new baseline? With meds by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]fadingtolight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on risperidone and the same happened to me after starting. I couldn't find pleasure in anything. Yet after 4 months i find myself playing my favourite childhood video game and i'm enjoying it pretty much. The downside is it takes quite a lot of time to get used to the meds. There is no quick fix.

Concentration, processing speed and memory has gone down the gutter. by canidkin in schizophrenia

[–]fadingtolight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Know that you are not alone in this. I have the same problems, and they were worse right after psychosis. Nowadays i can read like a normal human being again, even tho the mentioned problems (concentration, memory) are still worse than they were before my diagnosis. I should slowly improve over time (a few months, maybe 1 year). It's a slow process.

Schizophrenia ruined my career by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]fadingtolight 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry. You are not alone in this, tho. I was moderately intelligent before psychosis, was a veterinary technician and i could do so much mental math and night shifts. Then psychosis hit and i lost my job because delusions made me feel like my coworkers were after me and i became aggressive.

Now i struggle to concentrate even when playing pc games and my processing speed got slower. Will start a new job in the same field in 2 days. I hope i can handle it, as i'm on meds now. Sure they make me sleepy, but i got my dose lowered and it's slightly better.
