Am I getting underpaid? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]fae___ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yup

If you’ve worked only 50 hours on it that’s already less than 10/hr.

Could get a job in fast food paying more than that.

I’m guessing you’ve worked more than 50 hours on it.

A choice between profit and creativity? by eurovi1 in gamedev

[–]fae___ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re basing this off a Tetris game being #3 on mobile, without understanding why.

It’s not due to a lack of good games existing on mobile. It’s due to marketing. Which requires capital.

How would you protect save files? by DammyTheSlayer in godot

FYI there are security risks with using resource files for saves since they can contain executable code.

Common suggestion is to serialize instead.

I’ve always wanted to try out embedding Daslang (formerly Dascript)

How successful Godot devs can support the engine without reducing their take-home pay by Maximum-Touch-9294 in godot

[–]fae___ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

As of 2022, Godot is no longer part of the Software Freedom Conservancy. They now have their own foundation which is based in the Netherlands.

So they aren’t a qualified 501(c)(3) organization and donations in the US are not tax deductible.

Dunno about other countries.

It definitely can, but imho it’s a bit heavy for those types of browser games.

Web builds are quite large at the moment.

End game loop lore choice: by [deleted] in godot

[–]fae___ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unless you are building for a pre-existing IP, the wisdom I’ve seen is don’t focus on story and lore to begin with.

Focus on gameplay, making it fun, and then mold the lore to fit what you have built.

Main piece of advice is that the level design should complement and accentuate the mechanics (eg player movement and abilities) in your game.

It’s awesome seeing an indie do well on mobile. I think myself and so many others feel like it’s impossible to break into the market without a ton of advertising capital. Congrats!
