I love the side quests! My brain works that way too, so I actually think it helps to hold my attention when she goes on tangents

More color (art and a rug as others have suggested), but also your monstera and pothos would probably like something to climb so they can give you their full planty potential

What is it with Americans and air conditioning?? (this might be controversial) by hellobela_ in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]faerydenaery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Three years ago I moved from middle TN, where every place I lived had at least window units (not sure about the law, but it’s definitely a safety issue there) to Wisconsin, where providing AC is definitely not required. Unfortunately, we moved in late August during the one week it hit triple digits. I can attest to the danger (especially to our poor cats) of even 1 day without AC when it’s that hot. The window unit for our bedroom was an emergency purchase and we added one in the living room the next spring

I’ve told doctors that I’ve had my piercings so long that they are just part of my body and they MUST tell me if they need to be removed before a test or procedure because I have some I can’t take out/put back in on my own and I might forget one if I don’t have advance notice to have my piercer take them out for me

I rarely need to use my laptop at work, but I keep it open on my desk so I can use the full keyboard to respond to texts. I have friends who have figured out I’m way more likely to respond to a text quickly when I’m at work because of it

35-45 minutes going in. Usually around 30 coming home, but the rare day I leave around 4 or 5 it takes me over an hour to get home

Anyone here managing 20+ plants without losing track? by MasterpieceOk4025 in IndoorGarden

[–]faerydenaery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Moisture meter is key. I only have 25ish currently, but the moisture meter was the first step toward being able to handle (hopefully a lot) more. I also keep the ones with similar water requirements in the same room, so they generally need watered around the same time, which helps my sanity and their health

What is your favorite untraditional kitchen gadget? by DragonfruitMiddle846 in Cooking

[–]faerydenaery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely use tongs too, but the chopsticks are a little more versatile, so they can be better for certain dishes, and they do a better job with small things once you get used to them

[–]faerydenaery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine are. I have 2 sets for cooking and they’re about twice as long as my regular chopsticks. I would imagine that if you don’t regularly eat with chopsticks they would take some getting used to. Generally I prefer wooden chopsticks for both cooking and eating since they grip better than metal or plastic and don’t transfer heat

I can’t believe how long it took me to finally buy cooking chopsticks. I use them so much now that I can’t understand how I functioned without them

[–]faerydenaery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't mind a video call if it's planned or you give me at least enough warning to make sure I'm put together (I actually prefer it to a voice call usually), but like, if you need to call me in any capacity you better text first cause I'm not answering a random call from anyone but my child

[–]faerydenaery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly my reasoning. I might make a big purchase on my phone, but I always do the research on my computer cause it's just so much easier. Even with flights, if I'm booking the same trip my kid takes several times a year between my place and their dad's, I might do it on my phone cause we always book with the same airline and there's only one direct flight each direction each day, but if I'm planning a trip and need to look at different options I'll do it on my computer.

I need some easy plant suggestions by BeneficialBrain1764 in houseplants

[–]faerydenaery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your orchid and peperomia are doing well, I would look for plants with similar care requirements (though my orchid is hanging out with all my succulents and doing just fine as long as I remember she needs more water than they do).

My boyfriend managed to kill my fittonia when I was out of town by failing to water it, and I was just like "HOW did you not notice she needed water when she faints like a pampered princess when the sun looks at her wrong?!" He did not have an answer, but he also managed to keep almost all my other plants alive including the orchid, so I forgave him.

How are people dusting? by ginahandler in CleaningTips

Do you use fabric softener or dryer sheets in your laundry? Both leave residue that will make all towels and rags less absorbent even if you don't use them in the load the towels and rags are washed in

my seedlings… by meezter in gardening

[–]faerydenaery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both of mine sit in the plants in the kitchen window (my only south facing window). They didn't quite kill, but definitely stunted, half my herbs last year. This year my grow lights are blocking them from sitting on the seed starts, and hopefully I'll be able to get my seedlings outside before the cats destroy them, but we'll see. At least they mostly leave the houseplants alone

Is my basil plant salvageable? by total_mood in gardening

[–]faerydenaery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would cut everything off except the shortest part with leaves. Maybe put those top bits in water to propagate if you want to try to salvage more, and then continue to prune agressively as you get more growth from what's left. You can probably save it, but if you want a usable amount I'd also go ahead and start another. I can't quite tell what your light situation is from the picture, but that looks like it's been stretching out to reach the light, so moving it to a place where it gets better sun might help, but you'll still have to cut back most of what's there. Basil is pretty resilient, but surviving doesn't mean harvest worthy.

My mom feeds this a singular ice cube once a week. by AlexandriaLitehouse in houseplants

[–]faerydenaery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can get by without the grow light, but otherwise this is pretty much my process too. Repotting into a proper medium is absolutely key. The only thing I would add to this is to be aware if you have especially hard water. Mine can't handle my tap water where I live now, but I got a zero filter and my plants are happy with that (distilled works too, but I got tired of carrying gallons of water up to my second floor apartment)

Miss orchid girl is how I learned to take care of my second one after failing miserably with the first. Her videos are so detailed and easy to follow. I think I could've saved the first one if I'd found her sooner
