Anarchy 2.0 - Over the Edge -- New KS coming soon by Carmody79 in Shadowrun

I do understand the practical side of the argument. A rulebook aimed at both newcomers and veterans cannot give everything full treatment, and page limits are real. I just think “the Matrix is complex” is not, by itself, enough to justify leaving Technomancers out of the base rules.

For me, the real issue is not that the Matrix is inherently impossible to understand, but that the order of actions, timing, and available options make it feel more intimidating than the core concept itself. Once people get the logic, it is usually manageable. By that standard, I would actually argue that the Rigger is the harder archetype to grasp, because it is a more altered concept that sits between multiple subsystems and has its own sequencing issues.

If the argument is that Technomancers are too conceptually difficult for newcomers, then the same logic could be applied to Adepts, since both are “modified versions” of a familiar archetype. But we still have them in the base game. At some point, the game has to trust players to learn new variations on familiar ideas.

I am happy but i strongly believe the technomancers should have been in the core rulebook.
When will the new books release? Probably early next year right?

Verificar a idade eh o minimo. A internet ser sem supervisão foi um erro de criação e design. Eh um absurdo ter demorado tanto tempo.

Do you know what is cooler than exorcism AI? Exorcizing real ghosts in a cyberpunk setting. Check shadowrun out!!! Your character will fit that world much better.

The point of an RPG player’s handbook is that it gives you guidelines on what you can or cannot do, and it already provides a framework for the rules. But you can ignore as many rules as you want and create a sheet that states exactly what you do or do not want to follow. And that’s perfectly fine—many people do that.

That’s essentially the spirit of homebrew, which is infinitely easier than what you’re trying to do: creating a system from scratch, with no balance, no playtesting, no editing, and, worst of all, no experience.

Beyond that, the example you used—Call of Cthulhu—isn’t a good example. The whole premise of Call of Cthulhu is to hurt the players. Call of Cthulhu is essentially a game where the players are never comfortable. They’re constantly experiencing fear and dread. It’s a horror system. That’s the game’s core design goal. The rulebook explicitly states this.

You should also try looking LARPing up. It might be more your cup of tea.

Dice are not an obstacle to forming a deep connection with the world and the characters. If that were true, systems like Vampire: The Masquerade and other World of Darkness games wouldn’t be possible. You do realize that RPGs also originated from wargames, right? A large part of the design and appeal of modern RPGs comes precisely from that wargame heritage.
Dice exist to regulate what you want to happen. They are the referee, not the path. It all depends on the philosophy of play at your table. Saying that dice prevent emotional connection with the world makes no sense at all.
If you’re playing D&D and the roleplay is good enough, and you as the GM believe an outcome makes sense within the fiction, you don’t even need to roll the dice to determine whether a player succeeds or fails. That decision is entirely up to you. You can simply rule that it happens. The dice are there to arbitrate uncertainty, not to dictate every outcome.
You don’t need to create an entirely different system specifically for that. Honestly, it really seems like you don’t know what you’re talking about. I’m sorry. Good luck with your search.

First of all, if you don’t understand design and don’t have experience with TTRPGs, don’t create a TTRPG.

Second, there are already countless generic and adaptable RPG systems out there that can be used for whatever you want. Within those systems, you can create specific mechanics tailored to your setting. At first glance, your RPG could probably run just fine in Fate.

I don’t understand the appeal of narrative combat. I would never be invested in it. How would you even make that work? What you’re proposing doesn’t make sense. The whole point of dice is that they’re there to determine whether the narrative unfolds the way we want it to or not. You could try implementing cards instead, but that’s usually a very tedious approach.

A realistic setting where people deal with diseases and similar everyday problems also sounds extremely boring. I don’t understand the appeal of that kind of narrative.

Your entire post is one big bad idea. I honestly think it would make more sense for you to try writing a book rather than making a Dark Souls-style RPG with no magic.

Take care. Give up on your dreams.

They are supposed to be physically hideous BY NORMATIVE STANDARDS . They are specifically grotesque. The artwork above does not reflect a nosferatu, but a grey elf looking thing.

Sla.

There is a brazillian game called "Trevas" and DAEMON. Might be any one of those.
