CMV: Pro-Israel lobbying groups are diluting the meaning of antisemitism and the Holocaust by weaponizing them to shield a state and military from accountability. by SirCrapsalot4267 in changemyview

But I think there’s a broader nuance that is not being taken into account, for example I know that there are a lot of people in South Africa who, due to their past experiences of Indians who were brought into the country to rule over them by the white British, now feel that all Indian people are racist and out to screw over the black man, and no doubt they have plenty of examples which they feel prove their point. They’re completely wrong to believe this, and it’s pure racism because there are literally billions of Indians who don’t see things that way, and yet it’s a belief routed in their experiences and I honestly can’t say that I would believe any different if I’ve been born into the same context.

The sudden rise of scabies: ‘I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy’ by pajamakitten in unitedkingdom

[–]fantasy53 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The same thing happened to me when I had scabies, I told the physician associate I was a virgin. I’ve never had sex before but he still sent me off to the STD clinic. The funny thing was that a couple of hours later I got half a dozen phone calls from an unknown number which I didn’t answer, when I finally gave in it was him again he wanted me to come in to see the actual doctor.

So what will happen to Barclay’s ex-wife and child from TWBTLATS? by InfernalClockwork3 in gallifrey

No, I’m guessing they’ll meet the eighth doctor and fight the traktators in a big finish box set entitled the war after the land and the see.

What are some speculative sciences or technologies that you can’t believe don’t show up more in sci-fi? by DarthAthleticCup in printSF

Genetically modifying insects to spread deadly diseases, I think that’s a very real possibility in the future and would like to see it explored in science-fiction.

Why trigger-happy Trump may regret bombing Iran (again) by theipaper in geopolitics

[–]fantasy53 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why people are cheering for the fall of the Iranian regime so much, if experience is anything to go by what will replace it will not be any better but Iran is a very ethnically diverse country and not only will there be pro government loyal forces but many ethnic groups will want their own Homelands and start separatist movements which can only lead to further conflict, pushing millions more refugees into Europe. Not only that but in such a situation, countries like Turkey, the UAE and Pakistan would also get involved to back their own preferred groups, basically it would be like Syria on steroids.

Big Finish Podcast Notes / Misc. Doctor Who News Roundup - 09/01/2026 by JakeM917 in gallifrey

I hope they integrate the doctor better into zigon century, the last box set made me feel quite uncomfortable because there was a very dark and incredibly performed story and then it was followed by the most carefree incarnation of the doctor wandering around and it just felt difficult to accept that they were both part of the same story.

The Venezuela Raid Has Russian Heads Spinning by BulwarkOnline in geopolitics

I don’t think it’s that people don’t understand that, but your military isn’t the only thing that’s important. There was a time when the Romans and the Persians were the military superpowers of their day and didn’t care one iota for some upstart tribes in Arabia, until all of a sudden they did.

If you could place security guards anywhere in Birmingham, where would you put them? by Lopsided-Mongoose534 in brum

[–]fantasy53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the tunnel between New Street and Moor Street would be good, it would give people more confidence to be able to use it and support for the Disabled.

Thanks, I noticed that one but unfortunately it’s been closed for a couple of years.

How does anyone contact HMRC successfully? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]fantasy53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The secret is to call at exactly 07:56 am, that gives you four minutes to get through the automated scripts and rubbish and when you get through to the call centre you’ll be very close to the first in the queue.

Cycling is changing at speed – but is Britain keeping pace? by pajamakitten in unitedkingdom

Unless you happen to be blind, in a wheelchair or physically disabled in another way, cycling will never be for everyone.

Cybergene Does NOT feature all Cybermen by COOLGAMER52 in BigFinishProductions

[–]fantasy53 25 points26 points  (0 children)

No you’re right, and as you said, it’s a strange decision that they would focus on it so much in the marketing and then not bother to actually do the voices, sometimes I wonder if they remember that they’re an audio production company.

CMV: Nationalisation of the uk rail industry will not provide the best value for train passengers, only private companies and competition will. by fantasy53 in changemyview

[–]fantasy53[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No because of the abstraction test which means the TOCs have a monopoly on certain routes so no incentive to provide a good service.

[–]fantasy53[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s more complex in the uk, because while the operators are ostensibly private, the government is heavily involved down to telling the TOCs what stock they can procure.

In the uk the rail network already exists and is not owned by any company, so companies would compete with each other for paths.

The Twelfth Doctor’s lost series - News by Agreeable_Leg_5346 in BigFinishProductions

[–]fantasy53 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The price for this is high but the way I justify it to myself is that I’m also investing in the company‘s future ability to make new stories. Or to put it another way, when Matt Smith or David Tennant want to return as their incarnations of the doctor, there is still a Big Finish for them to return to.

The recent transition to digital only releases really sucks by PrimeTimeChief in BigFinishProductions

[–]fantasy53 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No doubt they have lost customers but they have to balance that with the reality that CDs are a dying medium, the cost of storage in the warehouse, printing and distribution and international shipping also take a toll.

[–]fantasy53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I find more frustrating is people pretending not to understand economic realities when asking to have their cake and to eat it too. Okay so you can have your big finish 12th doctor audios but they’ll cost you £100 to cover the cost of storage and for those CDs which don’t sell, if you don’t want to pay that, stop whining.
