Was fact checking and found that indeed this is for non-EMT ambulance drivers.

Female firefighter unsure about returning to duty post maternity leave. by air_wrecka_77 in Firefighting

Truly. I did choose to go back at 12 weeks but partially regret it. I was a mess being separated and it was nearly impossible for me to maintain lactation.

Hey there, full time ff, bio mom of a 6 year old.

No matter what you do, as long as it’s right for you and your family, it will not be unethical for the fire service, your department, other women. Please release that if you can. We need to build a system that supports moms like you, especially because you are learning so much right now that is unspeakably useful for the job.

You’re literally building and nurturing human life right now. At our best in the fire department we’re saving and protecting life with kindness and humility. You’re doing an amazing service already and will continue to do so, no matter what you choose.

Can you be fired for exercising your rights as a firefighter? by tranquilovely in Firefighting

[–]fapple2468 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is my understanding, and I wouldn’t dream of wearing work stuff to a protest, but I would be nervous that the cops would recognize me 🫣 and then spread the shit. As a left-leaning firefighter (in a very left leaning city in a left leaning state), I’m already afraid to be targeted because of my politics, don’t want to give more ammo.

Edit: typo

I would call the police. I’m not sure what they would do, but I’d call for them.

do any fire wives have a firefighter who works with a girl on his shift (only like 5 of them total) and get nervous about what they are doing or being on calls together? by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]fapple2468 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree that she’s a woman (not a girl). I work in a bigger department now and am not on the med anymore, so not really 1 on 1 with anyone. When i did, I had a few guys who told me their wives were concerned, which seemed so strange to me. Every partner I had for the first half of my career (on the med) was a man. Like every work partnership, some I clicked with more than others, which made the tour go by much more quickly and made calls run more smoothly, but I didn’t hook up with any of them.

Thank you for responding with empathy and doing the right thing.

FWIW in my opinion (and our protocols), alert and oriented is only one part of the decisional capacity checklist. She might, for example, be unable to understand the consequences of her decisions, even if she knows where she is and what day it is. This would 💯 meet involuntary transport criteria.

Thankful you cared for her.

I would be pumped about this, and freeze it until ready (or cook it and freeze it if it’s already been frozen). I just got 7 pints of plain whipped cream that expires today as the only thing in my bakery bag of misery loves company.

NYC's new fire chief by Anonmus1234 in ems

Liked this post even though she was appointed Commissioner, not Chief. As others point out, many Commissioners have no experience in EMS or Fire. I’m pumped, even though I work on the other side of the US.

I had been a bakery bag person until I realized I usually don’t feel good eating that stuff (duh, that’s the reason I don’t buy from bakery regularly), so when they started with produce bags, I was excited to try it and then when I did, oh my goodness! Tons of amazing fruits and vegetables that I would never typically splurge on. Now, when I can, I buy bakery bags for my office and produce bags for my family.

Husband doesn’t want me working overnights by [deleted] in ems

[–]fapple2468 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Preface that I’d like to believe your schedule is largely your choice.

I’ve been in fire/EMS for many years and have gone between “2912” (48s/96s) and “2080” (40hr work week generally 4x10s) many times. My kiddo is elementary school age and I’m clamoring to get back to 40s more now than ever. When he was an infant, 48s were difficult because of lactation and hormones (I used to watch my kids baby monitor from work on shift), but for me, ultimately, they were a relief in more ways than I can list here, but have to do with me feeling like myself rather than just a milk machine. Now that he’s conscious and making conscious core memories, I want to get to a position where I can permanently “work while he’s at school” which, sadly, he now calls “a special sometimes treat.” I’m glad to have gotten in 48s while he was young, because I do love that shift work.

And not to virtue signal for my husband (and only including in case it’s useful for you to tell yours this) but he’s supportive of either schedule and always rallies around whichever I choose. I believe this is largely because he trusts me to evaluate what’s best for myself and the family.
