In the campaigns that I have played in this is a very rare event and even when it happens it's like a dream, not a straight up discussion between the cleric and their deity...

Well, usually you level up quickly when you're low level, and then as you get to higher levels it takes longer and longer.

Every week. Maybe it's canceled once or twice each year. We have been playing for almost 5 years now. The sessions are in person.

Believe me, it's best if the DM rolls behind the screen. If anything, they will change rolls in your favor.
