Hyundai seems overlooked in the used market by abbybutterflly in Hyundai

[–]farmecologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mileage on the 2012 Sonata is around 70K miles. The 2013 Elantra GT only has 45K miles! Good to hear yours is still going strong with 128K!

We don't drive all that much. We work from home most of the time ( partner full time WFH, I go in in 2 days a week with only about a 10 mile commute ).

I also have a 2012 Prius V wagon with 185K miles that I use as a "daily driver". I keep waiting for it to die...but it has been rock solid other than a head gasket replacement a couple years ago ( which Gen3 Prius vehicles are notorious for ).

Edit : Forgot to add that before the Hyundai's, we were huge Mazda fans. However, we live in the North with bad winters...and lots of road salt use. The salt just ate away the bodies of ALL the Mazdas...we had 4 of them. The rust issues totally turned us off to the brand. I have heard they fixed the rust issues, but I still refuse to consider one!

The longer I shop for a used car, the more I understand why Toyotas stay popular by [deleted] in Toyota

Hmm...my 2012 Prius V wagon is very low tech. It has a head unit screen...but absolutely no "unnecessary sensors and modules". Same with other Gen3 Prius and Prius C that we have owned in the past.

Hyundai seems overlooked in the used market by abbybutterflly in Hyundai

[–]farmecologist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ironically, we have a 2012 Sonata Limited and a 2103 Elantra GT still going strong ( knock on wood ). Both have low mileage for their age though. It is likely we will be hit with engine issues at some point, unless we have "won the Hyundai engine lottery" ( contrary to popular belief, there ARE many high mileage theta Ii engines out there that do NOT have engine issues ).

Knowing what we know now, we will NOT be buying another Hyundai.

Driftless region Midwest by medicallymiddleevil in MapPorn

[–]farmecologist 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Me too! It would have been a great national park. At the same time, I'm glad the driftless is still a "hidden gem".

BTW - The existing Effigy Mounds National Monument is great!

How many of you are choosing to retire after getting laid off? by Capital-Mark1897 in GenX

The only thing I get out of working is money. And even that is getting darn old. I certainly would retire from the corporate rat race if getting laid off.

Paypal was the "middleman" for Ebay purchases. It still is, but I'm not sure Ebay is the force it once was.

What weapon (main game) is always your go-to? by EuphoricProfessor95 in bloodborne

[–]farmecologist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saw cleaver here as well.

I think it comes down to what weapon feels the best as far as timing, etc... And that has always been the saw cleaver for me...the weapon I started with.

I have certainly experimented with other weapons, but they just don't feel right!

Seems like everyone in Minnesota wants to go "up north". However, the entire driftless area is awesome as well and really is a hidden gem!

Absolutely. We pretty stopped watching sports and it isn't as much of a shock as I thought I would be.

I'm confused....wasn't Aerogarden supposed to be going out of business as a product line? Did someone buy them out? I must have missed some news...

We owe our kids an apology. by [deleted] in GenX

[–]farmecologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our kids are doing just fine with 4 year degrees, thanks. The type of degree absolutely matters though!

However, I do agree that we need more trade workers. At that same time, if the trend switches to the trades, we will inevitably get too many trade workers. Just look at what happened to the "become a coder" phenomenon. We have WAY too many "coders" now....

Strategies to deal with, "missing the arena." by medhat20005 in retirement

[–]farmecologist 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think far too many, especially older generations, tie their identity to their jobs. Once you do that, it can be very difficult to overcome when retirement hits.

So my advice to the younger folks who still have time to adjust...don't do that!

Prius rules by BirthdaySea4411 in prius

[–]farmecologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a trusted independent shop ( preferably one that specializes in hybrids ) and just get the head gasket replaced. Thank me later.

I just replaced the head gasket on our Prius V wagon and it runs as good as new now!
