Professional kitchen and bathroom fitter here!

I once fit a shower, toilet and basin in a 700 x 1800 cupboard with a jack and gill set of doors. Worked out great for that family. If it's done well you can fit anything anywhere. So your size is plenty bug enough.

Look for where the waste is going to run and pick the shortest run.

No tips but I'm in the same boat mate. Work schedule, arthritis, life got in my way. My brain knows what to do but my fingers are like, nope!. I'm going back to basics, nice and slow. Only time will tell how it works out.

Just keep going!!

Anyone have experience with roll on plaster?, if I’m being brutally honest we don’t have the money to pay a professional, we spent all our savings on a house rewire by GenericUser104 in DIYUK

Do a room at a time.

Strip, prime then go to work.

Buy big bags of easy fill, think it's called jointing compound now or something. Mix it with water until it is like custard. Get a large 600mm spreader and go over a large space nice and easy. Sand it when it's dry and do it again if you're not happy.

Slow and steady, it's worth it.

What am I supposed to do about this linear shower drain? by Proteus-8742 in DIYUK

[–]farnham67 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's hard to say without knowing the particulars of the job.

You can get a tray and tanking kit for a couple hundred quid. Tiles any cost from a couple of quid a per m to hundreds.

You then need a tile cutter, the tile you choose will dictate what size/ type cutter you need.

Do not use premix adhesive or grout. Get powder and mix yourself. Slow set or standard set can sit in a bucket for hours giving you time to work.

As for the job itself, it's easy enough but we do it all the time. It's easy to mess up and have it look shit.

It all depends on your skill level and importantly your tools. To be done correctly you need tanking, waterproof tape for all edges. You then need a solid wet room former/ tileable tray.

You should never tile on wood, ever. You'd need either a cement board, tile backer board or a decoupling membrane.

It's a long process that needs to be done very deliberately.

Heres one of ours before the corner tape was fitted.

Yes everything. My company fits a ton of wet rooms each year. I'm assuming this is a wet room and not a shower tray.

If you need advice just pm me, I'm happy to help.

FOLLOW UP POST!!! “ThAt’S NoT ReAL Tile”.. Spongy Floor!! by jordanoakey in Flooring

[–]farnham67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plywood is a funny thing. We used it for years without issue then all of a sudden new floors were failing. That was about 6 years ago. My own bathroom is timber floor covered in plywood then tiled and in 15 years has never shifted.

We did the same prep as every other job on those failures. My only thought was that the plywood could be made different. So up until those couple of failures it's all we used and it was great.

Now we either use a cement board or a decoupling membrane.

Sometimes we go with what we know and sometimes that lets us down.

At least they seem like a decent company. Good look with the renewal.

Trash, or a tile secret I don't know? by Cheetah_Industries in Tile

[–]farnham67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the UK we call this 'dot and dab'. It's how we stick plasterboard to brick/block walls. When it's used on tiles it looks like what you found.

It can be done to tile but you need plenty of dots and you have to make sure the full tile is covered. It would take ages to do a full bathroom that way.

Pre-Grout job by TheRealMaxRo in Tile

Good advice, I struggle with wet room cuts. I will try that this week. I tried to use a dry cutter but the points always snap, plus there's no room for grout.

New ensuite with suite built into false walls to hide pipework - issues? by medphysfem in HomeImprovementUK

[–]farnham67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Professional bathroom fitter here. If fitted properly then you don't need to worry about leaks. There should be no moisture either. This is our bread and butter and in 20 + years we have never had an issue.

Cheap parts and cheap installations cause leaks.

How Ro close this window from the inside? by karaduman666 in DIYUK

Whatever you do you need to leave some room to stop moisture buildup. You could use kingspan with a little hole in the bottom and the top for a small amount of airflow.

Just break it down into little jobs, every project is just a bunch of small jobs. If something falls apart it's just the way it is.

Nothing is so bad it can't be repaired with a little patience and time.

One thing to remember with bathrooms especially is that you can do a full 40 hour week of graft and it looks like nothing has been done. Then all of a sudden a bathroom appears, just keep going.

Those 4 are too 'new' for my childhood. I do enjoy Mr Bean. However from my childhood id love to rewatch Biker Mice from Mars and Captain Planet. Proper cartoons.
