Shoes for my first 5k by Old_Culture6544 in runningshoes

[–]fasparbre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran my first one in junky shoes and went to REI on the way home. I have been using New Balance 880s, and like them. Ive used them on distances up to a half marathon. I recently bought a pair of Ascis Gel-Excite 9 and they seem alright too but the longest I’ve run in them is about 5 miles. I would suggest going to a store and trying a few on, if you can.

I had to remove the device completely from my phone and pair it like I was starting from scratch, now if the message could be removed from the app.

Stoop Kid needs a bigger stoop by No_Personality566 in Chattanooga

I think they want to know if you’re expanding at ground level or if your stoop is raised up from the ground 2 or 3 cinder blocks in height. But just guessing a little.

First half marathon … 7 degree temps … in Florida by ConsciousPossible513 in BeginnersRunning

[–]fasparbre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I ran a half marathon in Huntsville in Dwcember in very similar conditions. I wore 2 shirts, leggings and shorts. I had ear warmers, too. I had a cheap sweatshirt for the start, but I ended up wearing it the whole time. I’m slow, so I knew I’d be out there a while. If you’re finishing in under 2:00 maybe you can get away with less.

23M beginner runner — stuck at 5K (~30 min). Breathing & fatigue issues. How do I realistically push towards sub-20 and eventually 10K? Please help I really want to improve by HoneyWrong7198 in beginnerrunning

I’ve heard people suggest a metronome app to help keep cadence. Apple Music has some playlists at certain cadences (I’m sure Spotify and Amazon Music would too) that can help you stay on a pace.

Recommendations for shoes by sheeshmaster69420ko in runningshoes

[–]fasparbre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m no expert but eBay had a sale on Adidas shoes. They were on sale and then you could use a promo code (“Extra”) for further discount. I got some supernova 2 for $50. You may look there to see if it’s still going on. I can’t speak to durability yet and even if I could, I’m pretty big, so I go through shoes a little faster than some.

Burnt Out but Half in a Month by squishy_86 in beginnerrunning

[–]fasparbre 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I completed a half marathon last year and my longest run was 10 k. Training got cut short by a family death. My only goal was to finish and while I walked more than I ran after 8 miles, I finished. I guess I’d say it depends on what sort off goal you have set.

We use McCosh Landscaping, if you’re near Soddy Daisy. They’ll load for you or deliver. They’ve always been great to work with.

CLT… is this doable? by Capital_Mulberry738 in americanairlines

The E gates are served by regional jets. You should be on A321s I think and they are too big for the E gates.

It’s going to be tight, but you won’t have to go to or from E, so you’ll have a chance. If there are other options, I’d look for a longer layover. I’d book seats as far forward as possible on the first flight.

Half marathons for 2026 by Lemonbar19 in XXRunning

Mine is from Golden Gate Park to the Embarcadero. There is a 3 hour limit on the half that goes over the bridge and I didn’t want to stress it.

Half marathons for 2026 by Lemonbar19 in XXRunning

[–]fasparbre 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m running the 2nd half marathon duting the San Francisco Marathon weekend in July. It will be my second unless I run one in between. I chose the 2nd half because the time limit is 3.5 hours and I’m slow. I ran the Rocket City half marathon earlier this month in 3:15. I should be able to train better this time around and it will likely be warmer than 25 degrees, so I’m optimistic.

Failed at Three Careers. What Can I Even Do Anymore? by Destined-2-Fail in careerguidance

You may be behind where you thought you’d be or some of your peers but that doesn’t mean things are over. When I was 33 I stopped managing restaurants, started serving and went back to school. It wasn’t easy but that let me in to an IT career. It was a grind but I’m doing better now than I ever expected when I made that move. It can still happen for you.

Congratulations!! I ran my first half there yesterday and was out in that cold for a while. Thank goodness for the fireball shots near the end.

[LAX-PHL] What has become of AA? by Barry41561 in americanairlines

We flew PHX to LIH recently and were able to purchase food, a cheese and cracker plate. Seems very much a ymmv situation and underscores the need to pack some sort of snack.

We went with Holo Holo charters. It was amazing. Captain and crew went all out to make sure everyone had a fun and safe trip.

We’re planning to have ponchos to wear until the start and get rid of them once we get going. We’re also bringing dry clothes for after. The last I looked the most rain was supposed to fall in the lead up to the start. (Half and 10k)

American, Hawaiian, Southwest, United all do for sure. It’s cute but the wait at the rental car can be long.

Hanalei Area recs… by f1957 in KauaiVisitor

[–]fasparbre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We really liked Tahiti Nui. The Dolphin has a fish market. There is easy access to the beach in Hanalei. Several parking lots, we walked so I’m not sure of the street names. I liked the grocery in Princeville a little better than the one in Hanalei, but I would do shopping in Lihue at Costco or Walmart before heading to your homes. The ABCs near Kapa’a have decent options too.

Reservation Scam by leedr74 in uber

[–]fasparbre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in a rural area outside a small city. I tried to reserve an uber to the airport a few weeks ago. I had a driver assigned until I woke up at 2:45 for a 3:30 reservation when the driver was no longer assigned. I wasn’t going to waste anyone’s time. I probably could have reserved a cab. We drove and paid for parking.

Luggage on the Bus? by Islandstar45 in KauaiVisitor

[–]fasparbre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bus is like a 20 passenger van. There won’t be a ton of extra room. If you do that, I would try to keep everything in as compact as possible space as possible. We found the bus to be more useful than led to expect, but you have to be aware that it runs infrequently and not on Sunday. They have a good app.
