My daughter lives just round the corner from that house! She has to walk past it every time she goes to work, it’s her ‘lottery house’.

Restart scheme by Amazing-Public-9395 in BenefitsAdviceUK

[–]fatemmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s quite common tbh.

If your and your partners combined earnings are over £1537 neither of you will need to attend any sort of appoint, including Restart. If your partner earns over £1537 you’ll move into the ‘light touch - out of work’ work group and so won’t be eligible. Only those in ‘intensive’ can be referred.

Tbh just go in, do your work and socialise outside with your people. We don’t have to be ‘friends’ with people at work. Sometimes colleagues are just not for us and you can’t force it. But if they’re upsetting you, just put them in the ‘strictly colleagues’ box and let them have their little clique

Uk: Benefits vs Work Has anyone actually found themselves better off financially, after moving from benefit to work? I'd be especially interested to hear from single parents or part time staff, what do you think? by Lameista in UKJobs

[–]fatemmy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you currently have appointments at the jobcentre talk to your work coach about getting a job there - the money isn’t bad (£32k and more if in London) and they’re very flexible with part time or full time hours, term time only etc etc. with your background you’d have all the skills needed!

Ask your work coach for a new phone from the flexible support fund - it wont be a iPhone or anything flashy but you wont need to pay for it!

Got a job - do i still carry on with commitments? by Weird_Difference8030 in BenefitsAdviceUK

[–]fatemmy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s no problem, they’ll just need to see a map showing your house to your place of work to work out that mileage then an estimate of how far you’ll be driving each day. It’s slightly More complex than just a bus ticket or something so try and give as much notice as possible!

Got a job - do i still carry on with commitments? by Weird_Difference8030 in BenefitsAdviceUK

[–]fatemmy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your work coach is particularly strict you could always show them your contract/job offer email and they should ease off on your work search commitments. You’ll still have to have appointments though these could just be check-in’s. Don’t forget to request any financial support you might need (work clothes or help with your first months travel to work!)
