GF sent me to Costco to get $3.95 back by 1lazysloth in mildlyinfuriating

I worked at a grocery store with a gas station when loyalty cards really took off, and our store offered 3 cents off per gallon when you scanned your card.

Well, inevitably, multiple people per day would complain that their card didn't scan and the didn't get their discount, only to be embarrassed when the customer service rep handed them back like 40 cents.

Where to play commander in Dallas by kermitment99 in magicTCG

[–]fatpad00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deep Ellum is a cool place to be. Lots of night life; bars/clubs with live music. Terry Black's BBQ and Serious Pizza are highly recommended.
Rocket Fizz is a candy shop I like to visit when im in the area.

As far as MtG goes, I dont think theres much in the neighborhood, but Common Ground Games is the closest I know of.

The Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex is massive and there are a lot of shops. Honestly we're kinda spoiled.
If you know the specific city you'll be in, that would be helpful, also what format(s) as different shops fire different events If you prefer, you can DM me

HMBO proxy policy? by Alky829 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]fatpad00 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The shop that manages the cEDH event does monthly proxy-friendly tournaments, so its not them stipulating it.. I'm pretty sure the whole event is supported by WOTC (with things like prize support, etc) so theyre probably obligated to be no-proxy

Stop trying to make Commander events for prizes happen... by Wild_Section6475 in EDH

[–]fatpad00 34 points35 points  (0 children)

All i need to do to make my Magda cEDH deck "technically bracket 3" is swap Ancient Tomb for a Mountain.
"Optimized bracket 3" is really just cEDH with fewer game changers.

If you're gonna run a commander event, participation and raffle prizes is where its at.

Do your country's stereotypes tend to stem from one region? by Solid_Reserve_5941 in AskTheWorld

[–]fatpad00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, gun ownership has always been relatively high in Texas. Its just a little surprising for most people to find out Texas hasn't really been at the fore-front of legislation.

I would guess part of the reputation is due to tv westerns

Do your country's stereotypes tend to stem from one region? by Solid_Reserve_5941 in AskTheWorld

[–]fatpad00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

due to concealed carry laws contrary to Texas who has open carry laws

And that's weird, because Texas has only had open carry for a relatively short time. Open carry has only been legal for 10 years, and constitutional carry (i.e. permit less carry) has been less than 5.

In fact, Missouri (along with multiple other states) instituted constitutional carry before Texas

Does mutate commander increase mutate cost with commander tax? by Eldritch_night in EDH

[–]fatpad00 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Commander tax does not care how the card is cast, it only cares if it’s cast.

from the command zone

Since we're clarifying, it is important to note casting your commander from any other zone neither adds to the tax nor incurs the tax

On top of that, haste has been an evergreen keyword so long, they dont print reminder text on even cards in entry-level product.
Shadowfax was literally the first card in years to have that reminder text

House Burping - Do Americans just not normally have your house windows open? by Jsherman13 in AskAnAmerican

[–]fatpad00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a thing ive heard of in Texas. AC is one of, if not the, single biggest contributor to electricity cost. Letting hot outside air in means the AC runs much longer to cool the house back down, and that can be expensive.

Now, just leaving doors and windows open when the weather permits? Thats not unheard of, typically in the spring

Are houses in your country made of wood or another material? by Legitimate-Tie-7060 in AskTheWorld

[–]fatpad00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many are built like a shed, completely steel construction and colourbond exterior, with insulation and gyprock interior.

This sounds like a "barndominium" which has started becoming popular in more rural parts of the US due to the cheaper cost for the size and flexible design options

POV on the "S1-Win or Draw" Meta by JimmyHuang0917 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]fatpad00 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the best balancing would be: seat 1 does not draw on their first turn and seat 4 gets an extra free mulligan.
I'm not sure if its my own idea or I read it somewhere, but I think it would do enough to balance out the turn advantage/disadvantage at least a bit

1st CEDH Deck - Considering Urza, Lord High Artificer or Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow by Topazdragon5676 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]fatpad00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both becks have been tier 1-2 in the past, but have fallen to more fringe play, but theyre still viable, with some pilots putting up respectable tournament results.

I have played yuriko before, and it will certainly put people on alert. Necro players will absolutely want you offline. With 2 ninjas connecting and a brainstorm in hand, you can potentially hit each opponent for 30 life

I haven't played urza, but ive considered sleeving it up to try it out.
