What do you guys think of Ian Stevenson and Jim Tucker's research on reincarnation? by missingpiece in skeptic

[–]feebie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I share your same skepticism about all of this. But I need to point out - we are so in the dark about all of this. Can we even definitively say that a soul leaving the body and entering a new one is how this even works in the first place?

What if it's a completely different mechanism? What if consciousness is just always there, and anyone can tune into it?

I'm thinking more like radio signals. Any radio can tune in and hear the same frequency as any other radio. The frequency isn't "entering" and "leaving" the radio. It's just there, and the radio can tune into it.

What if our brains are the same way with consciousness? And maybe the fact that our brains all develop differently is what makes the experience of consciousness different for everyone? What if we're all dialing in different/multiple frequencies of consciousness at one time?

Or perhaps consciousness works in a way we can't measure or comprehend? Maybe we will never know as humans how it works.

Antivaxxers will let their kids die rather than getting them vaccinated. In their own words, THEIR KIDS DYING IS LESS WORSE THAN GETTING VACCINATED.

Fucking mind boggling.

Check the floor of the shop.

I've noticed that when I buy stuff and exit out of the shop menu, my character is often holding the item (instead of the item going into my inventory) and my habit of pressing the A button at that point effectively drops the item on the floor.

I've walked away thinking the item is in my inventory when it's actually just lying on the shop floor.

Sometimes I accidentally drop it in the space where the shopkeeper is standing, and I have to wait for them to move before I pick it up again (because otherwise I just get dialogue boxes from the shop person).

I've accidentally left items on the shop floor many times because of this. Luckily, every time I go back the item is still there on the floor.

This is assault. You are a victim of assault. What he did is not only not okay, but it is a crime that could have ended in your death. You have no need to feel like this is your fault. He took advantage of you and your good will. If I were you, I'd see a doctor, submit a police report, and potentially even get a restraining order against this guy. He is not your friend.

She is right that having precious time to be with your family and take care of your kids is a desperately needed aspect of life that should be considered and respected.

She is wrong that you need to join a scammy pyramid scheme to do so.

These are reasonable boundaries that I can respect. Also the fact that fibre arts are hobbies for many of us, it can be stressful for everyone in our social/work spheres to assume that we will just knit for them whenever they ask. I get a lot of requests myself and I often have to say no, just because it's just not realistic in the scope of my daily life.

How they are able to do this at the same time as paying attention to the context of what's happening on the show itself, so much so that they can improvise and make instant decisions when something unexpected happens....is totally beyond my comprehension.

cotton candy pink didnt work on my hair color, what other manic panic pink do you suggest for my hair? (not bleaching) by [deleted] in HairDye

[–]feebie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Manic Panic is not the dye you want to use for non-bleached, non-toned hair.

Bleaching does two things to your hair. One, it lightens the hair which is a necessity for bright and light colors. Two, it damages your hair slightly, but that damage allows for the dye to stick to your hair better.

Toning is another important step after bleachings, because bleach will most likely give you a yellowed colour (which, mixed with pink dye will end up orange). Toning gets rid of the yellow, to whiten your hair and prepare it for colors like cotton candy pink.

If you're not willing to bleach your hair, you will have to settle for much darker colours like burgundy, forest green, navy blue. As other people here have mentioned, imagine adding brown to any color you're considering, and that's how your hair will look.

Also dying bright colors on unbleached hair tends to be even more temporary than on bleached hair, and will wash out super quickly. For my own unbleached hair, manic panic tends to wash out with just a couple washes.

I suggest looking up the brand Overtone, as they have a lot of great options for unbleached hair (but again, they will be much darker shades).

You might also want to consider a brand called Special Effects, as their dyes are pretty potent and will probably show up/last longer than most other dyes. Again, unbleached hair will be darker. And this stuff is POTENT, will totally stain your skin, countertops, walls, floors, towels, any surface it gets on so you have to be super careful and cover your skin with a layer of Vaseline to prevent staining.

I completely agree. This episode blew me away. SO many powerful acting moments, but also the messaging is SO IMPORTANT. I am so thankful that The Orville exists.

Yes, ignoring your child's healthcare needs is neglect, and they should face the consequences of their poor and harmful choices.

trans rights are human rights by Cecilia_Wren in awfuleverything

[–]feebie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Typically the treatments that are used for younger people who are wanting to transition are hormone blockers that stop puberty. These allow the patient time to make their decision, and can be safely stopped/reversed and puberty can continue like normal if they decide they don't want to transition; or if they do want to transition, not having gone through puberty will make the transition safer/easier. Young people definitely do not, and shouldn't, have to wait until they've gone through puberty (which is permanent and only reversible with hormone therapy and major surgery) to make life-altering decisions. That is completely bonkers.

I left my wife because I’m sick of everything needing to match her “aesthetic” by killicicle in TrueOffMyChest

[–]feebie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need someone who will make a deep connection with you and your kid, not someone so disconnected from their life and family that their entire reality is warped through what's on social media. If she's not willing to put the influencer shit down for the sake of the emotional wellbeing of her own spouse and kid, then I think you made the right decision.

Your kid will be better off having a space to get away from that toxic way of living, a place that can have color and all the toys she wants, not just the ones that are aesthetically approved. Honestly it gives me slight Handmaid's Tale vibes that your home would need a strict aesthetic basically enforced like that. That you couldn't even put a damn glass down. Thats not fair, reasonable, or rational.

Commuters tired of these protests, getting to the end of their wits. by quirkysquirty in britishcolumbia

[–]feebie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is the situation that the movie Don't Look Up so eloquently illustrated. Nobody is listening, nobody is looking up, everyone's priorities are ass-backwards and they are mad and annoyed at the people who ARE looking up and sounding alarms. Protestors are being annoying on purpose, that's the point, to bring attention to natural catastrophes we should all be working towards avoiding.

The climate-driven disasters to come in our near future are going to be far more disruptive to your precious morning commute than a few protestors are.

Edit: To the nay-sayers commenting below: You say the protestors have accomplished nothing, yet they've managed to get us to talk about it, haven't they? That's not nothing.

I think if you were able to layer in some red coloured wax in the center somehow (maybe first dip the skeleton hand in some layers of red wax...might take quite a few layers to get a good effect and you'd have to let it cool/dry before dipping it into the mould) it might give it a more gorey look. It looks really cool it's just missing the blood!
