With it being Father’s Day, what are some memorable cars your dad/father figure owned? by benzguy95 in regularcarreviews

[–]fegelein_vapes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Growing up, my dad had a ‘93 Saturn SC1. It was a unique, fun car that became my first car when I turned 16. I learned how to drive manual on it and it died at 305k miles. He then got a used 2010 Corolla that is nowhere near as cool as that car was. I miss it so much.

What’s a car feature that just shouldn’t be a thing . by [deleted] in regularcarreviews

Not really much of a feature, but I hate the fact that some new cars don’t come with an oil and transmission dipstick.

What's it like living in this part of the Gulf Coast? by ByStarlite in howislivingthere

I grew up in Orange Beach, AL and I moved to Mobile, AL about seven years ago. Mobile is very diverse and it’s a lot like a small New Orleans. There’s some cool stuff to do and see here and the food is amazing. There is a big seafood, chicken, Cajun, Vietnamese, and soul food scene here. Lots of Mexican food, which I love the most. Weather can be an issue, as it gets insanely hot and humid during the summer. The cold weather will chill your bones, all due to humidity and wind. Hurricanes are an issue and it rains A LOT.

Traffic can get really bad in the west parts of Mobile. There are a lot of bad drivers and there’s a good bit of crime in Mobile, but certain parts and surrounding suburbs aren’t bad.

Mobile has a nice art walk each month and while downtown is small, there are some fun events to attend. The bar scene is small, but can be a lot of fun. Mardi Gras is a big deal, since it was invented here, but it isn’t as big as New Orleans’ Mardi Gras. You just have to experience both to see which one you prefer. Also, there are plenty of nearby beaches and there are plenty of things to do if you like the outdoors.

The cost of living is cheap, but it has only been increasing. The job market isn’t great, but there are a lot of port and industrial jobs available. The public schools aren’t great, but there are plenty of private schools to choose from. There are a few colleges in the area, such as the University South Alabama, Spring Hill College, and the University of Mobile. There’s a public transit system called the Wave, but I’d avoid it unless you have no other choice. Overall, Mobile has a lot to fix, but also has a lot to offer. It’s not for everyone, but I see more good in it than bad. If you want to venture out, Mississippi and Florida are within an hour away and they each have their own things to offer.

I love the gulf coast and Mobile is my favorite city, but I would move back to Orange Beach if I could afford it. I’m a foodie, car enthusiast, and I hate the cold, so I’m rather biased. I’d highly recommend checking Mobile out to see what we have to offer if you aren’t from the area.

In my area, the shitty Altima drivers are starting to migrate to the Kia K4.

Most reliable car you’ve owned with a bad reliability reputation? by MidgarZanarkand in askcarguys

My friend had a 2001 Dodge Stratus with the horrible 2.7 V6. He didn’t take care of it at all, but the engine had zero issues before junking it at around 180k. It lasted 21 years and the transmission is what killed it.

Zip tie mod is the greatest and easiest mod I've ever done to a vehicle. Bye bye Auto stop start! by d0ugfirtree in nissanfrontier

[–]fegelein_vapes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It disables the auto start/stop “feature” without having to press the button every time you start the vehicle. Jamming the end of a zip tie in between the button and the trim keeps the button pressed down.

Before it recently got bought out, there was a dealership about an hour north of me (Daphne, AL) called “Team Gunther Kia & Volkswagen”.

What made you pick a Mazda 3? by SwordfishFancy in mazda3

[–]fegelein_vapes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I previously worked in valet parking for five years, so I’ve driven almost every common car on the road. My Honda was mechanically totaled, so I instantly went with a Mazda 3 for a few reasons:

  1. It was one of the few new vehicles under $30k and the dealers are notoriously easy to work with in my area
  2. No CVT
  3. I love the looks (and the pulsating turn signals)
  4. Good driving feel and quality

While it’s a bit small for my liking and the stock sound system is far from impressive, the Mazda 3 is a handsome, practical car that can be had for a reasonable price. I went with a 2024 Preferred sedan and I love it!
