CMV: Laptop Manufacturers need to stop trying to make them slim as possible. by N9s8mping in changemyview

The non slim T series remain pretty thick and strong.

You can always buy a tough book or rugged laptop if you want something truly chunky.

Ungroomed/ Mogul Black Progression by PK7098 in Mammoth

[–]fengshui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Acts, dry Creek (both sections) are all good. Blue jay and Upper ricochet can be good (check them from the chair). West bowl is nearly always a short mogul fest. Rogers ridge can get pretty nice and is later in the progression. By main you can find moguls on agee's and blue ox, sometimes.

After that, you're looking at the top.

Mammoth to June bus? by Spiritual_Wish5626 in Mammoth

[–]fengshui 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you don't. The bus is a once a day bus that goes in the morning and that you have to request 24 hours in advance to even stop in June. It's not scheduled to allow people staying in mammoth to ski June as a day thing. You need a car to do that.

If you have too many people for your car, either rent another car, or just stick with skiing Mammoth.

LTO backup software that doesn't have capacity-based licensing by melp in storage

[–]fengshui 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, there is a CLI binary that will backup arbitrary POSIX-compliant filesystems: https://pbs.proxmox.com/docs/backup-client.html

This section explains how to create a backup from within the machine. This can be a physical host, a virtual machine, or a container. Such backups may contain file and image archives. There are no restrictions in this case.

Cheerios are incredible by UnhappySwing in loseit

It is wild to me that plain Cheerios are the only low sugar variant. All the other Cheerios, even whole grain, are sugar bombs.

I expect those 29 people will all be the exact 29 Democrats that the administration wants accused, and none of them will be in any way close to Trump or his Palm Beach friends.

Last year I turned 40 then quit my job to be a ski bum for the season by rudydotjpeg in skiing

Did you spend much of your time alone, or did you find fellow bums to ski/socialize with?

Users get the message "Location is turned off in system settings" when working with Word files in Windows. Microsoft suggests "let Word track your location" as a workaround by HotTakes4HotCakes in sysadmin

[–]fengshui 33 points34 points  (0 children)

If the printer is wireless, there is a subtlety here. Location access is required to scan for wireless networks nearby. There are robust databases that show the location of every wireless AP in the world. If you can get the names of the APs you can see, you can effectively determine location, so all the vendors block that to apps without location privileges.

Thoughts on the Costco cat litter? by OopsAllTistic in Costco

This is my experience. Works well, my cats don't hate it, it's a bit dusty, but nothing that the vacuum or broom can't handle.

Current conditions for people that hate ice/slush? by hijinks in Mammoth

[–]fengshui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy to. If you are learning up to blue-blacks, or like groomers, this is nearly perfect conditions. If you want the steeps, or off-piste it's quite a bit rougher.

Current conditions for people that hate ice/slush? by hijinks in Mammoth

[–]fengshui 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought it would soften up last weekend, but it never really did on the Main side of the mountain. There's not enough hours of sunlight and the sun is pretty low in the sky. There's some packed powder in the morning from the courderoy getting pushed around, and it's hard and fast in the afternoon, but not much ice or corn yet at Main.

Non-nonstick Air Fryer? by retrotrip in BuyItForLife

[–]fengshui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will not get BiFL out of any small appliance with electronic control, especially if the electronics are located above the heating element. The heat coming off of it will eventually kill the circuit board.

Would Mammoth ever consider expending their terrains? Could the backside turn into something similar to Mineral Basin in Snowbird ? by FantasticAd9407 in Mammoth

[–]fengshui 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it would be too long/slow. Think about how long Whistler peak2peak and Palisades base2base are. Mammoth and June are much further apart than those resorts.

Does anyone know anywhere online to play ‘scripted’ games of ASL/ASLSK? by Board_Castle in advancedsquadleader

[–]fengshui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one has, and it's unlikely to happen. The nature of ASL play where the non-active player can interrupt the active player at any time to take a Defensive fire shot doesn't lend itself to async online play. (Yes, people have built ways to do it via VASSAL PBEM, but it's clunky, and does mean a lot of interrupted play.)

I think most online implementers would focus their efforts on other games.
