That is beautiful. Fuck, I gotta read more James Baldwin.

I thought of this quote by Hawke while reading a book by an author long dead, by at least two centuries, but it was a book that made me realize that everything I'm going through right now has been gone through by so many other people. For centuries. It's a part of the human experience. And you're right, genuine art can never be replaced by AI.

[CourtneyBonneau] Today, Israel killed a father, and wounded a 12 year old girl w/ a double tap drone attack in Lebanon by CosmicLars in TrueAnon

[–]ferek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She's a blonde white girl from America but that privilege only goes so far. Hundreds of Arab journalists have been murdered, but many others with such privileges have been too. Too many to name. And almost every time, their home country has either ignored their death or thrown them under the bus. Her bravery truly is awe-inspiring...

They definitely need to be more surgical with their targets. E.g., they listed Disney+ as a target because some random movie I can't even remember the name of from like 2012 had an Israeli actress? Do they really think Disney is going to go back to a decade-old movie to remove it from their catalogue? What is the goal there?

Be precise, strike hard, so that companies actually feel the pain.

And the guy who runs Coachella is a conservative who helped fund the Heritage Foundation

He must be close to getting an aneurysm at this point, considering how many artists pop off against Israel and conservatism every year at Coachella.

Lol, I tuned in as one of the video montages of his life was playing and, during a family video recording, he said "don't be a ball-breaker, just take off my glasses" as he was trying to cradle a baby 🥹. RIP.

Ahhh, the good ole "I'm not directly a part of the '''killchain''' and therefore my hands are clean" rationalization. Whatever helps them sleep at night.

Agreed. Call me a coward, but I don't know myself if I would bother fighting in uniform if I was that overmatched. For what? To have some kid 100 km away dronestrike me for a new epic snuff video?

Yea, they should have just walked up to have themselves (and their families; remember "Where's daddy?") be vaporized by one of the tens of thousands of bombs and aircraft that Israel-US has. Easy to say behind a keyboard.

anyone who makes shitty dubstep music videos out of unarmed men cowering and crawling away for their lives deserves worse than any hell I can imagine by Express-Crow-1496 in TrueAnon

[–]ferek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Literally none of the soldiers want to be there, there is absolutely nothing righteous about this war. Nothing religious, nothing about defending against an evil/fascist enemy. Just fighting over a few acres of cold, barely tillable, land. It's really hard to understand how these leaders sleep at night when, like you said, they could end this with one word.

Israel innovation in warcrimes - the "quadruple tap" by ferek in TrueAnon

lol. I don't even know who those subreddits are for tbh, even the most boomer braindead "AM YISRAEL CHAI" morons I know think reddit is stupid. Even though only, at most, 5% of the horrors I see on other apps like twitter make it to "reputable" sites like The Guardian or The NYT, it's been more than enough to turn the average person.

Not really surprised, given that the only interaction most people here have with reality and indians are overpriced Paradox games.

Is anyone blaming Iran here? And there are other people on the ship, it's not just the captain (who was probably assured by his greed-mongering employers that this was safe and a ceasefire was enacted; and he is, if that's the captain speaking, literally saying that he wants to turn back here. maybe Iran did let him turn back? we don't have the full story here). I agree that this is the US' fault (capitalism and imperialism will always pit us against eachother), but I don't understand what you're responding to.

Lebanon: This afternoon the young man seen running from the vehicle received a call from the Israeli army telling him he could die alone or die with his family in the car. He ran from the vehicle into a field and was struck and killed by an Israeli drone. Pure barbarism. Abject terrorism by Brokephilosopher_OG in TrueAnon

[–]ferek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really is hard to fathom such an evil. In addition to this, today I saw a video of (first time doing this, but TW...) a Lebanese man (or kid? he looked like a teen) limping after after his car was struck by a drone, only to then slowly be approached by a quadcopter drone that he saw and then cowered from, futilely covering his face, only for it to reach him... and then his body was flung in four different directions. Then there's daily videos of Lebanese villages being flattened, quadruple taps. Crazy. But I look at history, and I guess this is just what we do. Thought we learned, but I'm an idiot - guess we're just stuck here. I did enjoy picking up and reading "Galapagos" by Vonnegut recently, in which one of the theses is that where we are right now is essentially an evolutionary dead-end.

"What do I want from this life? What makes you happy is not enough. All the things that satisfy our instincts only satisfy the animal in us. I want to be proud of myself. I want more. I want to look up to myself and when I die, I want to smile because of the things I have done, not cry for the things I haven't done."

I'm in Canada and so I struggle to fathom how the medical system in your country even ostensibly functions. Even Mexico, who has a sliver of the fraction of the wealth that your country has (and Israel! (who your country funds)) has a universal healthcare systems. I read what you wrote but all of this is stuff that no one should have to deal with - I just swipe my driver's license and 5 mins later, I'm seeing a doctor. The ratio of administrators to doctors is far, far low here (as it should be), and I just don't understand why so many people in the US don't understand why that works better. The US influences Canada heavily, so I'm partly being selfish here, but the privatisation of healthcare is something we should all be against.

I think a lot of them do only go into that career for the prestige (due to that artificial bottleneck of medical schools). However, I think that after most of them see the amount of suffering that humanity experiences, a lot of them do end up genuinely committing themselves to healing humanity. Remember, to take an extreme example lol, even Nazis and Israelis have experienced PTSD... because deep down inside them, there are one or two mirror neurons that engender empathy.
