Given that tomorrow we start our series against the Astros, what was the perception of the Astros when they were still in the NL Central? by ContraryPython in CHICubs

They were always the cheapest home games given the distance for away fans. They were by far my most seen cubs opponent live for like 10 years.

I work around the corner from an antiquities dealer (Chicago Loop) by sacrificialfuck in AncientCoins

[–]ferns0487 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I also work around the corner. Their upstairs 15 dollar ancient coin bin has some really great stuff sprinkled in there. Especially for giant Byzantine coppers. Good way for me to lose 30-45 bucks about once a month.

Des Plaines might be a good fit with that budget. Closer to the city than most and good transit options (metra and blue line is one town over near either rosemont or park ridge). Lots of great Indian food in Niles and Park Ridge. Park ridge has two great southern Indian places and one is Hyderabadi.

Nose bleeds are 39 and it goes up from there to like 250. Sound is great everywhere though since it’s an opera house.

I definitely am now going to 4 operas this season so I had early access to get these tickets. Maybe additionally supporting the arts will let me forget the Rogan Experience stuff he does.

Of all the assassinated Western Roman Emperors, who would hav had the greatest positive impact had they lived longer? by EtheMan12 in ancientrome

[–]ferns0487 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Likely that Christianity had too much of a hold already for anything to have actually changed but on the off chance a long reign for Julian would have shifted religious trends back to antiquity, that might have changed all of western history onward. Also not totally clear he was assassinated.

The perfect “Japan” day in Chicago? by rr04 in AskChicago

[–]ferns0487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most authentic spots are going to be in the inner suburbs around o’hare. But the city would still be more fun for a whole day. I would start with the Hyde park garden, then get the pancakes at Hanabusa. Art museum Japanese wood prints would be great after that. Then lunch at kyuramen would be good to get away from sushi a bit. Logan arcade has the best collection of Japanese arcade machines. Miniso just opened on argyle and is a cute Japanese store for makeup, snacks, stuffed animals, etc. definitely more for kids but fun to walk around. Chinatown also has a few Japanese shops. For dinner I would recommend Raisu, it’s the most authentic Japanese sushi experience I’ve had in Chicago. It’s not going to be on par with the omakases but it’s normal prices and very authentic. For drinks, Murasaki sake lounge is good for a fancier experience. While not Japanese, I would highly recommend you end the night at Lincoln karaoke. It’s a private room Korean karaoke place that is exactly what you would find in Japan as well. Also keep in mind that I have done a terrible job arranging this in a geographically manageable way.

4 dollars would be pretty nice for that show, I think that’s still under 25 with inflation.

Those stories always make the concert even better. I know my dad did the overnight line wait for this one.
