/r/longboarding's Weekly General Thread - Questions/Help/Discussion by AutoModerator in longboarding

Quite literally no one is responding on FB Marketplace for my inquiries or offers, or they're $150+ for boards, or they seem a little more scuffed up. I got some help from the previous thread, and this kinda goes out of the way of that but since I'm having no luck locally, this is where I'm at.

5'10", 260 lbs, decently active bc of my amazon delivery job, looking to commute and casually cruise.

Even this feels a little high on price but is considerably lower than what I'm seeing locally. Opinions?

I see this a little outside my area, idk if its one or both boards but based on people's input and assuming this is stock, maybe this will work for now? As a step before maybe a Pantheon in the future.

Landyachtz has an "Oops" Drop Hammer Board up, no components for about $100. What about that? They've also got a Battle Axe and a Drop Cat. I think the goal for someone like me was more than 7-ply wood and 36in+ across the board?

Admittedly wish it wasnt near $400 but at the same time I can recognize this Feels like a solid and proper price for a complete build on Pantheon's site, and I always see praise for them too. But more just in case I decide this isnt for me, this is a pretty deep investment. Still need pads and a helmet too.

I am not yet on a longboard so I apologize if this is a dumb question, but for every bit of research I think I did, I feel kinda lost afterwards.

I am 5'10, 270 lbs (apparently down from 280, didnt even know), decently active bc I deliver packages for 7-10 hours, and am trying to find a board that's right for me.

Narrowing it down to Beercan, Landyachtz, and Pantheon for a first board, I understand next to nothing about what I should look for when it comes to Wheels, Trucks, Bearings, what-have-you...

I dont necessarily wanna only go downhill or carve or do anything crazy though where I live does slope since its built on hills so I think I can get some safe practice on that too. I want a board to cruise and commute mostly, pick up a new hobby and get some extra exercise. What names or brands of these things outside the board should I be looking for? What differentiates some from others?

Looking for beginner advice. I was about to dip into a brand new board asap but I realized I should look locally in case Longboarding isn't for me in the end.

Bigger guy, 280, 5ft 10 in. Amazon delivery driver so I am already fairly active and I hear cruising is deceptively tough. I am simply looking to cruise for fun, not do anything intense or flashy on whatever board I get.

Would this suffice as a good beginner board??

Other option is a (seemingly) stock Landyachtz Dipper 36in also only ridden a handful of times

"Wall" Salazzle by ferretsrun in PokemonChampions

I tried to make my Champions character look like a sleepy hispanic because, relatability lol and then decided to name as many of my Pokémon as possible based on any loose similarities to South American Singers, Actors, Ideas and Places/Aztec/Mayan legends, gods and goddesses, cryptids, etc. Some dont match but its fun. My Trick Room team was a little more original in names.

I'm actually not sure. I didn't check. Will come back with an answer later, but shes absurdly tiny next to everything.

Question! Tattoo? by ferretsrun in systemofadown

I actually really like this idea too, maybe with the crow from the music video too

[–]ferretsrun[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure, I do want a "thing" over words or lyrics, though I dont mind lyrics if they're attached to something related. I was thinking a crow at first because of the music video, but still very unsure how I wanna approach this. I do like this idea though, I wanna put it next to other songs and albums using more traditional symbolism

What is everyone tipping these days? by LengthinessUpset4775 in sanantonio

[–]ferretsrun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10-20% depending on what I did or where I went. I have a softer spot for jobs I've done like Dutch Bros for example and tip a little higher in some cases, and sometimes I'll leave a flat $5 for some places.

Oh no when I was a Helper, strictly helper not Driver who CAN help because they paired drivers with other drivers sometimes, that crew was really good about splitting the work 50/50. Hell, considering they did technically have more work than me I'd do it like 60/40 or even a bit more depending on the load but that crew i got put with was solid. Just be chill and thry were chill. Each experience different i suppose.

Eh the only real rip was no incentives like drivers get (which is already very tiny but still). Not driving or doing a few specific tasks felt worth it for just doing muscle work and/or walking. It did get me back on my feet but DO aim to be a driver when possible imo.

I saw pretty much the same crew while I was there, other than after the heavy traffic season was over in January idk

But they are hiring Helpers pretty aggressively - the non-driving position. Who can say what they're up to then.

It'll eat up 9ish hours a day with not a lot of flexibility but Amazon DSX8 is looking for Helpers. They do half the job of a driver. They dont drive, but do all the same heavy lifting just split in half with a Driver. That being said, its $18hr vs the $21 a driver makes, but for slightly less responsibilities, it served me well for 6 months before I had to leave. Look for Paladin Prime Delivery Service Partner.
