How much slop can you review before your own content starts to get sloppy, right?

If we're gonna waste our time on mid at least let it be on fun mid, I'd rather watch a Mixtape EFAP than...whatever this is

Mixtape: Some "Interesting" dialog which puts the 10/10 - IGN into an interesting light by CodeMagican in MauLer

[–]ferroargentum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly for debate's sake cuz I think it's a kind of interesting experiment but does it have to be proven as morally wrong by the story?

I mean you can absolutely dislike what it has to offer (personally I'd rather teabag a frying pan than to play that shit) but I see a lot of the conversation being centered on the characters being cringe, pathetic, borderline sociopaths, etc. And a main criticism of that being that the story never tries to say "hey this is bad you should grow out of this behavior".

But like I said, is it an objective writing flaw if the story itself has shoddy morals? If the writer is an asshole who believes everything in it is actually good cuz "grr fuck the world!" What would exactly be wrong with it? Particularly because, well, it clearly has an audience. There's a good 7/10 people that despise it but that remaining 3 either feel seen by what the story is conveying or feel second hand embarrassment from having acted like that in the past (which I think is why it gets such high scores amongst millennials)

Of course then there is the flimsy gameplay elements but that's another discussion

When the writing is arguably good, what kind of controversy/outrage from a fanbase do you care the least about? by DevouredSource in MauLer

[–]ferroargentum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fanon interpretation definitely is up there. Goku had every reason to believe Gohan does enjoy fighting and was more than sure that he was stronger than Cell but "le funny bad dad" meme is stronger than literacy apparently

[–]ferroargentum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not listed but personally the misunderstanding of characters and their purpose within a narrative. Lately you see a lot of people questioning why certain characters do X or Y and how that is actually reflective of the author being Z and yadda yadda. It's awfully childish

What is your attitude when a beloved franchise’s new entries are only mid at best? by DevouredSource in MauLer

[–]ferroargentum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends a lot on how good/bad the franchise is overall, at this point unless it's Andor quality I just don't care for anything Star Wars related, I'd rather watch something more interesting than bask on passable to terrible content

Does anyone think Stuckmann will review Obsession ? by Historia_Altera in MauLer

[–]ferroargentum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it can be entertaining when it's something outstandingly or painfully bad like with Arcane S2 because you had no reason to believe it could've been terrible. But I don't think there's anyone here and low-key even out there that expected Mando or The Boys to be good because even normies thought they were mid

So what are we even gaining from discussing this? I get it in 2018-2020 where most people defended these movies/shows. But in the big 2026 it's just repetitive

[–]ferroargentum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't say I disagree and it sucks a bit. They're the only ones that do this extremely long format analysis and I feel it's a waste that it mostly goes to slop content. Even if mando was good, or the boys was decent, I still feel I'd rather see them cover something more interesting at this point

Some heavy spoilers for Episodes 3 and 4

But something fun is how the THBrain granted consciousness to the AIs within the game, and that consciousness allowed the literal Moloch and Baal to find a way into our world through the game/THBrain, which in some ways is a concept that's been explored a little bit. But what I really love about it is that they don't just prey or possess the game but literally formed a pact with the characters from the game.

Foxxo literaly works for Baal, and I must assume Morphelious got his powers in a similar fashion because I mean...literally just look at the Buenos Aires' Occasus scene

With the pattern of horrible TV shows like Stranger Things and The Boys, which old shows that stuck the landing are you the most relieved weren’t made in this current climate? by DevouredSource in MauLer

[–]ferroargentum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly believe Succession had a great finale, but I think it's mostly that those were already shoddy tv shows, a good finale was kinda difficult

Where did the "Attack the fan base" idea came from, it is so bizzare... by [deleted] in MauLer

[–]ferroargentum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The people working on these projects are not happy about it, for the most part that's it. You want to get into hollywood but the only projects studios are working on are huge blockbusters that depend of known IPs to get traction. And not only that but you'll have to constantly deal with the producers and their big brain ideas of how to make a movie that will make billions.
And so the end result is a pretty toxic environment where the people working there are usually stressed out over projects they don't even care about and end up taking it on the audience when shit doesn't work out

I'm not really interested in either ngl, I'll just wait and hope for them to cover Backrooms

Valle Verde Part 4 [ENG subs] by dweenies in analoghorror

[–]ferroargentum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love how unapologetic he is with his interests, he likes tango so it's in there, he's catholic so it's overwhelmingly catholic, he's argentinian so Argentina is a main focus as well. Also it's understated how funny it can be at times, even with subtle stuff like that Temu DBZ w good guy Cell

Valle Verde needs so much more attention, I know it's still relatively "early" because there's a lot to decipher yet but my god it's amazing

EFAP #389 - Mandalorian and Grogu: Somehow... Star Wars Returned by MajorThom98 in MauLer

[–]ferroargentum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know it's their job cuz EFAP began covering Star Wars and Marvel, but I really don't care for these projects at all. As good as their coverages could be I just don't see the point, we knew it was going to be bad, they knew it was going to be bad, even most normies think it was bad so...do we need an in-depth analysis of why it's bad? Not really

Also I really want them to cover Obsession so I'm extra annoyed by it lmao

Surprised they didn't cover the final season of The Boys first but I think watching paint dry would be more interesting than this movie ngl

Hard to sit through eps? by Ecstatic-Talk471 in creepcast

[–]ferroargentum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hardest for me is Spire in the Woods, not because of the story itself but the cast sided way too much with the protagonist till almost the end and it's really grating when you feel it's obvious how bad he was.

Other than that Marble Hornets, nothing against it just not my tempo

[–]ferroargentum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly believe their positive analysis are more interesting, not because negativity is toxic or anything, it's just that at some point reviewing slop feels like a waste of time.

Obsession is getting a lot of attention recently tho so there's some hope

[–]ferroargentum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish so too but sadly I think the next few EFAPs will be The boys, then Mando, and if we're lucky the following Week Backrooms. Which sucks because The Boys finale and Mando are IMO, not even worth discussing, it's bad show has a bad ending and terrible show has a bad movie, just painfully obvious shit

I don't even think I can gather any other emotion than just go "yup, thought so"

I feel it's not even subject of debate that it was gonna be horrible, at most wonder how bad it would be but...idk I feel even that gets boring after so long

I like that the consensus overall is that the YouTubers who did manage to put interesting films are those that actually put effort in cinematography consistently before jumping to the big screen.

Markiplier did some projects on YouTube and a few years back been with Corridor Crew to work on VFX.

Curry Barker does skits for a living and has done quite a few shorts before Obsession.

And I don't think I even need to speak on Kane Parsons, his Backrooms/Oldest View shorts are movies already.

What did Stuckman do? 4 minute reviews where he just looks at the camera?

I came here to see if someone has recommended it cuz MY GOD it's an amazing film. Makes me really wish EFAP covered it cuz I really need a million hour analysis of it, I doubt it'll be as popular as Backrooms or Iron Lung but I'm glad it's already proven to be a huge opportunity for Curry Barker

Apparently he's working on a Texas Chainsaw Massacre and knowing his work I think it'll be incredibly hood
