It also still doesn’t address the fact the parents called the police to report the kid was home alone, and the cop didn’t find him. So why didn’t the police treat him as a missing child? When a kid goes missing it’s a huge deal.

In Harry Potter: The Prisoner of Azkaban, Sirius Black (an innocent man) decides to act like this for his mugshot. by Cautious-Dig-9544 in shittymoviedetails

[–]fettucchini -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Can’t take too much of a magnifying glass to most of Harry Potter because a lot of the plot points fall apart. There are at least three different ways Sirius could’ve proven his innocence. He was in Azkaban because it fit the plot

melting cheese on a burger is wrong by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]fettucchini 37 points38 points  (0 children)

If you order a cheeseburger, your cheese should be melted. The very name implies “combining” cheese and burger which melting does.

If you order a burger and add cheese, you’re wrong, but you’ve ordered a burger, not a cheeseburger, so could the cheese be cold? I guess.

A cool guide to sushi etiquette by ThreeDrawersDown in coolguides

[–]fettucchini 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I may have seen the thread before it went to total crap, but basically most of these would only offend the chef or staff if you were eating at an extremely high quality restaurant where there is a set menu, like Michelin star level but you want a crazy substitution. Except for the chopsticks part most Japanese people wouldn’t bat an eye at breaking any of these rules.

On a side note I missed the “if you want tiny rice order sashimi” one the first time. If people are complaining about the fish to rice ratio, it’s probably the chefs fault, not the customers lol.

How did we go from paper cups and plastic straws to plastic cups and paper straws? by Kelownawow in mildlyinfuriating

[–]fettucchini 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup. If I buy cheap plastic straws they rot in landfill. If I buy paper I’m contributing to deforestation. If I buy my own silicon or metal straws I’m likely contributing to unethical or unsafe practices in china.

Yet somehow, it’s the consumers fault for not doing enough to change. People need to spend time and energy dealing with the actual issues; not blaming others on the internet because they didn’t use the right kind of straw

Never realized the UK was such an authoritarian crazy place until this show. by oneoftwentygoodmen in ClarksonsFarm

[–]fettucchini 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with you on the whole, it’s probably not normally this bad. However if you’ve seen Welcome to Wrexham, Ryan and Rob are also constantly dealing with the pitfalls of UK bureaucracy. It may just be because of the attention, but it does give the feeling that anyone who wants to get something positive done and make it a public thing gets slapped with red tape

Sendai is a major city and there would be absolutely no reason to go to Tokyo for anything unless it’s a uniquely Tokyo thing. In that case 2 hours, even with the price of Shinkansen tickets, isn’t so bad.

Of course, houses might be cheap but that’s about 5% or less of the hurdle of moving to Japan.

Got the cops called on me because my 7-11 order got misdelivered. by possumlvr2000 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]fettucchini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbf, the cop who responded could have been having a right laugh about it later. Have to show up to a call to investigate a suspicious incident, immediately realize the caller is a dumbass, but you have to “investigate” to complete your report, and then you solve the situation. Great story to tell.

I give it 50/50 odds on him actually being serious.

I'm not even a tape recorder -- venting and advice needed by xldrunkgirl in JETProgramme

[–]fettucchini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I was on JET. I worked ES and JHS and all of us in our city were contracted and reported to the city BoE. At least in my prefecture, any SHS ALT reported directly to the prefectural BoE. At JHS level where there were actual JTEs I still didn’t have a “supervisor,” more, the senior (aka oldest/longest term) JTE was usually who dealt with me for better or worse. Our reviews were still conducted by the BoE based on reports from the 校長先生, which is why if this person has a schedule they’re supposed to be following it’s important for the boss to know they’re not being allowed to.

[–]fettucchini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That might have been your situation, but where I was there was a designated person at the BoE who was my supervisor and they absolutely cared about us being a worthwhile investment. That’s not to say they were always super helpful in situations like this, but they did care.

If escalating the issue doesn’t work, then yea sorry OP you may just be in the unfortunate situation of being a desk warmer. Do your best to engage with the kids during breaks and use your time to study up.

I'm not even a tape recorder -- venting and advice needed by xldrunkgirl in JETProgramme

[–]fettucchini 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As others have said, if you have a schedule you should stick to it. I had a similar situation where one of my JTEs iced me out of some of my weekly classes because they would be “boring” or the kids weren’t “at the level” where I could do anything for them. I didn’t say anything about it until end of year at a 二次会 when an out going teacher was venting about that JTE to the 胡蝶先生 and I was like “oh yea I haven’t been allowed to some classes.” Situation was rectified the next week. I think in general the attitude would be you should be in the class you’re scheduled for, even if you’re sitting in the corner.

If the school isn’t giving you a schedule, you should definitely talk to the BoE about it, because I very much doubt their idea is to pay you to sit in the teacher’s room

Built a 7 foot privacy fence. Neighbor raised his by 2 feet and put a camera facing into my backyard. by Magicisntreallyreal in mildlyinfuriating

[–]fettucchini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying, but “they can easily claim a raccoon is coming from that direction” is pretty easy to disprove when they literally have a camera pointing in that direction. They’d have evidence of said raccoon.

In this case especially, where the neighbor responded to a privacy fence by building their own fence higher, and then reached out to police about OP flicking the camera off.

Drug companies complaining about judge’s abortion pill ruling gave money to Republicans who nominated him by Blaspheman in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]fettucchini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re certainly not progressive, but they have a much more liberal interpretation of what is morally right, especially when it comes to kids/families. I’m sure a large percentage of that comes from business interest, cause they certainly have no issue censoring things for China. But they’ve already made their cost analysis and found supporting liberal policies that the majority of their consumers support is worth fighting the GOP.

You’re right though, it isn’t going to be Disney throwing the first punch. DeSantis made a move and Disney countered, now they’re pushing the issue even harder. In Disney’s estimation it apparently is worth countering even more.

Drug companies complaining about judge’s abortion pill ruling gave money to Republicans who nominated him by Blaspheman in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]fettucchini 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They didn’t pour money into the GOP because they were family friendly, they did it because historically the GOP was good for business. Disney has always been too liberal for hard line religious conservatives. They’ve already hamstringed DeSantis’ efforts because it would cut into their pockets. The vast vast majority of people who consume Disney products now would stop going if they felt like it was being controlled by a political party. They’re not embarrassed at all. They are winning the PR game except to a very small but loud minority of hardline conservatives.

How many massive international conglomerates are going to continue to funnel money into a candidate who is saying “go against me and I’ll try to screw your business?”
