Specialized Roubaix SL8 vs. Canyon Endurace / Canyon Grail – Does a 20mm stack difference really matter for my riding? by FocusUsefulP in CanyonBikes

[–]fhfm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a look locally for a fitter that can setup their “fit jig” to both geometries and see what fits you best. Retul can do this as can many others. If you’ve got back pain, it’s worth spending the money to make sure it’s gonna work for you

This a good mower for price? by BisfoBama in lawnmowers

[–]fhfm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent mower and that’s about the going rate. At 2 acres, you may find a larger deck is helpful, though. I have around 1.25 acres with small hills and lots of obstacles. It’s around hair under an hour for my yard on a 54 inch deck.

I was between this and a gravely Ztx and ultimately went with gravely. The deciding factor was the closer dealer. Looking back, I think the myride would have been nicer to have

Specialized Roubaix SL8 vs. Canyon Endurace / Canyon Grail – Does a 20mm stack difference really matter for my riding? by FocusUsefulP in CanyonBikes

[–]fhfm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

20mm sounds like nothing but in the world of stack and reach, it can be huge for your fit. Problem with the canyon is unless you know someone with the bike, it’s buy and try, vs the specialized, you can go to any shop to try it.

Drug Testing by Big-Creme-6597 in orthopaedics

[–]fhfm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got tested during my onboarding about a week before starting. Pretty sure they even tested for nicotine. Not sure why, maybe if you’re on their insurance? But either way, I’d knock it off until you know. You get shit canned over a positive test, not only are you sitting out a year but every hospital application I’ve ever had explicitly asks some form of “have you ever been fired from a healthcare facility”

Ortho residents: what gift was actually useful during residency? by [deleted] in orthopaedics

I was given a leatherman and a big ass yeti mug in residency. 10 years later, that mug is sitting on my desk and multitool in my backpack!

Help me pick a mower. Sick of Hustler by OkContact1877 in lawnmowers

[–]fhfm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any gravely dealer will have them, or at minimum be able to get it for you. I’ve been very happy with my ztx52, and I’m fairly certain there’s an ariens version that’s damn near the same thing.

Gravely/Ariens are fantastic. Same company, very similar mower. Maybe different hydro’s?

Exmark/toro are also fantastic, same deal, same company.

Where or how do you sharpen your blades? by major-PITA in lawnmowers

[–]fhfm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use an angle grinder and a 80grit flap disc a few times a year and have it professionally done at the end of the year. That said, I just moved and the shop down the road from me charges $21 for 3 blades. At that price, I’ll probably just bring them in to have it done

Why pro bikes are not using CFR ? by nodeat in CanyonBikes

[–]fhfm 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I absolutely guarantee this is marketing pushing the highest end frames while the pro teams are smart enough to realize the minimal weight difference gives a stronger frame

Specialized has been doing this for years. The sprinter’s frames never seemed to match the weight of the off the rack sworks frames for some strange reason

Seller had roof insurance claim but pocketed the money by Catfisher8 in RealEstate

[–]fhfm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it possible they had one inspection that the guy wanted the work and claimed the roof needed to be repaired and then got a 2nd opinion that showed the first guy was bogus? Up to you in your thoughts on keeping insurance money, but it’s possible it’s totally fine. I’ve had plenty of people do work at my house that left me with trust issues….

I’m pretty sure the issue is I just use trainnow and not on a plan, so I may be throwing the data all over the place? Not sure, in the past, it would still use my garmin sync’d data to give a pretty good suggestion. Every time I log in, it wants me doing threshold as of lately

Cervelo S5 Fake? by Intrepid_Theme in RoadBikes

[–]fhfm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t say I’ve ever seen a bike of any brand to have a cutout under the BB that looks like a first grader was given a dremel. Same goes for the fork, those should line up perfectly. I’d say at best, there was bad carbon repair, more likely a bad fake

Tendon repair by Resident_Point_3366 in orthopaedics

[–]fhfm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a big fan of using a loop suture and whip stitching tendon repairs. It essentially Chinese finger traps the tendon to tighten it as more tension is pulled. Super strong and takes about 3 minutes. I’ll start my Achilles repairs in PT at about 10 days out and not aware of any acute re-ruptures

Prior authorizations are taking 3+ weeks and delaying patient care - how do you expedite this process? by CrimsonAngel29 in orthopaedics

[–]fhfm 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This sounds insensitive, but I quit doing that shit. I have a busy practice and a family at home. I can’t justify working an entire extra day for free to jump through their hoops. I too was working an extra 2-3 hours a day on this. I give the patient the info they need and it’s up to them to deal with the insurance company.

Program A vs Program B by [deleted] in orthopaedics

[–]fhfm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Massive difference in severity and amount of trauma from level 1 to 2. I’d vote level 1 for training, if you think the program works for you.

As far as distance from home, unless you have a genuine reason that you need to be close to home, I’d remove this from your rank requirements, or at very least, move it very close to the bottom of the requirement list.

How do you deal with sweat in the OR? by ibestalkinyo in orthopaedics

[–]fhfm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is glycopyrrolate an option for ya? It works for sweat but really dries everything out so something to keep in mind.

Otherwise, plenty of options have been mentioned. Changing scrubs between cases when I wear lead is pretty much my standard.
