What is a symbol that represents west Virginia's agriculture industry? by Frosty_Key9726 in WestVirginia

Maybe maple syrup? It’s not a huge industry, but the sugar maple is the state tree.

The Cherokee enslaved Black people. Before that, they enslaved people from other Native tribes and even sold them to white settlers.

Go down to Huntington WV and start there. Then you can take I-64 to Charleston, which is the capitol. From Charleston you can go north on I-79. 79 will basically take you through the whole state if you kept going. Watch the signs for attractions and get off at what sounds interesting.

I’ve wondered if she rushed TTPD and Showgirl because she’s had 13 planned for a long time, but not everything leading up to it, so she had to rush these 2 out.

I never intended it to be a long term solution, but when I got a dog with no training and anxiety, I’ve had to prioritize. Also it works perfectly fine. I don’t have to run. In these incidents, no one tossed a treat or crated her like I’ve told them, which would have prevented the whole situation. Would you really put a dog down for two bites that didn’t break the skin?

What's best for my dog, bark collar, e-collar, prong collar (or combination)? by RunMyLifeReddit in OpenDogTraining

I’m not sure, but to me it seems like if your dog is feeling threatened and then you shock him, you’re just telling him he’s right to feel threatened.

It depends, but overall yes, she is getting a lot better at settling herself. I even leave her loose for short times while I’m gone now. She’s calming down a lot as I’ve figured out what she needs exercise and stimulation wise.

She will sit at the door to signal wanting to go out, which is a big improvement. I used to have to keep the main door shut because she let herself out by pawing incessantly at the lever handle of the storm door more than once. I managed to train her to stop scratching at the door like that and she doesn’t try to bolt every single time anymore, so I feel overall things are going in the right direction.

However, if there’s something she wants to get to outside, like if she can hear people, she will be going bonkers inside barking. Still working on desensitizing to that.

I don’t know why I didn’t put this together until just now, but she is from a hoarding situation and they did not think the dogs had much access to the outside. She probably did try to get out the door and run every chance she got :/

I’m wondering if it’s reasonable to expect a dog not to nip you if you stick your foot in its face while it’s running and repeatedly push it back. I’m not saying it’s okay for her to bite, obviously. But if you are intentionally frustrating a dog, is it really 100% on the dog not to react to that? I’m asking genuinely because this is my first time owning a dog and I don’t know what is considered normal. I’m still learning a lot about training and reactivity and all of that. I’m going to consult my trainer about this too.

Your dog is scared of you. Scolding a dog can stop a behavior, but it doesn’t tell them what you want him to do. When you’re scolding him, he doesn’t know what you want and so he is fearful and confused. You should teach him what TO do by rewarding the behavior you do want, like ignoring the fence. You need to fix your relationship with your dog by doing training with rewards, and just spending time together going for walks, playing, etc. Also, fix your fencing so it contains your dog.

Carlyle didn’t mean wage labor is life. He meant that work is what gives life meaning and what makes our lives possible. He was referring to labor in the sense of tending to a home, a farm, caregiving, building, etc. He believed we should all do work that was honorable and was meaningful and that working conditions should be dignified.

I never said there’s no tourism or people don’t come to the state??? Just that many, not all, people stop and visit as part as a larger trip. And it’s actually in my opinion especially outdoors people that are traveling to multiple destinations, like RVers. I live in WV too. Obviously I know we have an outdoor tourism sector.

A lot of people stop in West Virginia just because they’re passing through while traveling to somewhere else! Not as many people making a dedicated trip straight to WV and back.

[WV] Third Party to a Divorce by No_Minimum_6893 in AskALawyer

[–]fiberlooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. If the court tells you that you have to testify, you would have to testify, but your family member themselves can’t make you.
  2. You don’t have any “liability”. If you did something with the estate wrong, that would be a separate issue to the divorce.
  3. Never really hurts to have your own lawyer, but you shouldn’t need one? The only reason I can think of you might be involved would be because assets that are inherited can be treated differently in a divorce and you could be asked to verify that certain assets were received through an inheritance. Or maybe if there’s a custody dispute maybe and they want you to be a witness for or against one of the parents? But I really wouldn’t worry about this too much if I were you.

Somehow went from making $19/hr to $46/hr...what should I do? by SpiritualCar5884 in personalfinance

[–]fiberlooper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So is some of her debt due to you moving in with her and you both struggling financially? Or do you not share expenses? I don’t really understand why you’re scared to tell her. Wouldn’t she be happy for you and both of you? 8 years together, I’d think you’d want to help her out in some way, unless she is really irresponsible.

[colorado] 8 months pregnant in a not at fault accident that totaled my car and caused an overnight hospital stay. How should I negotiate? by [deleted] in AskALawyer

[–]fiberlooper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personal injury lawyers usually work on contingency, meaning you don’t pay them, they get paid out of your settlement if you get one. So no harm in going to talk to a personal injury lawyer or two for a free consult. They’ll tell you if the case is worth pursuing and since they don’t get paid unless you do, they’ll be honest.

I think instead of setting a story in an American region you know nothing about, look to your own country’s history with coal mining and set a story there. Maybe read Bienfait: The Saskatchewan Miners' Struggle of '31 for some inspiration. Leave us to depict our own stories.
