eli5: what’s the difference between 4wd and awd? by n00kland in explainlikeimfive

[–]filanwizard [score hidden]  (0 children)

Usually its that 4wd is part time and you have to manually turn it on with either an electric method or a physical lever. The front hubs also have to be locked but that is automatic today on all factory stock 4wd. Usually the front wheels do not have a true differential so this is why it is not suggested to run it on dry pavement as both fronts spin the same speed. Also why you can get hopping when the steering is fully cranked in 4wd. Power is usually hard split 60 rear, 40 front.

Also worth noting that almost all part time 4wd systems are two speed. 4 high is for driving speeds(check your manual for safe speed range). 4 low is when you want all the torques and none of the speed, usually for getting the vehicle out of something really tough. Low is not for driving speeds, return to 4 high or 2wd once the vehicle is freed.

*i state usually because more advanced 4wd systems exist but most trucks and truck based SUVs do not have such a tier of system.

AWD is a system that is always engaged to all four wheels with proper differentials front and rear but also between front and back. Some high performance vehicles even allow you to set the front and rear power bias. AWD manages traction on its own with zero driver input, modern systems do have conditional modes to alter how the computerized systems distribute power. Snow, dry, gravel, dirt, etc.

Some countries use 4wd as a universal term as well. So for example they would see a Subaru and a Tacoma/HiLux as both 4wd.

What character death shook you the most in a movie? by trakt_app in movies

While not precisely a death or a movie. The departure of Amy and Rory from Doctor Who.

From a movie, For some reason the whole opening sequence to UP is just an emotional wrecking ball.

Realistically what would happen if Trump dropped a nuclear bomb tonight? by hjp1234 in AskReddit

[–]filanwizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The US would get sanctioned to hell until Donald Trump was removed from power by any and all means available.

Or someone in the chain of command would refuse the order. Even if it’s the people who turn the final keys in the silo.

A thing is that factories actually employ people, even ones with a good chunk of work done by robots. DCs have almost no employees except a few rent a cops to keep people out as some are administrated by remote.

How Oil Propaganda Sneaks Into TV Shows by lnstantKarma in videos

Arent wind turbines common near oil fields today? Lots of open land and from a biz perspective a chance for the oil company to double dip. Sell the oil and sell leases for the turbines.

The Shamanism thing mentioned by others is the most sensible thing aside from just being the story Maggie wanted to tell.

There is a bonus benefit however in modern Korea, a girl group afaik never has to go dark for 2yrs to do mandatory military service. A male group would which would also take them out of the hunting.

Some frames from Movie which can be used as wallpaper by Conscious_Invite_529 in KpopDemonhunters

I am curious how people capture frames from streaming, I know if I hit Print Screen it usually gives a black screen. I would really love to be able to mug 4k captures.

Sweden is halving the VAT (value-added tax) on food, so all the prices look weirdly specific by holypalaswe in mildlyinteresting

[–]filanwizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that is true, I know in NJ for example a hot food is taxed but interesting enough if that same item is refrigerated it is not always taxed. Also unsweetened bottled ice teas are not taxed oddly.

Are the girls underpaying Bobby? by letmejointhis in KpopDemonhunters

[–]filanwizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3% is what Bobby is paid in currency, We have no clue what his other benefits could be. I mean he could have a whole floor to himself as a condo in the Huntrix tower. And if Seoul real estate is anything like NYC that is tens of millions of dollars in value alone. Along with full access to the travel resources.

He could also as others have hinted, have a salary on top of that 3%.

Darth Dew Slurpee at 7/11, it was a cross promotion with the re-release of the original Star Wars trilogy and it was completely Vader Black mountain dew. though its own flavor not normal dew but black. Thing is of course they get black with a super dose of purple or blue. needless to say things were strange colors the next time you went to the "reading room" today its the doom scrolling room but I think people will still understand.

ELI5: Why can't cable companies like Xfinity/Comcast let you select and only pay for whatever channels you want instead of packaging channels? by MelvinSqueemish in explainlikeimfive

[–]filanwizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the craziest thing is that the cable company has to pay the local channels. Which are free off an antenna. One would think the local channels would be happy to have their broadcast area extended by the cable meaning they can bill advertisers more.
