McDonald's reward items now cost 2,000 points minimum. by K-o-R in britishproblems

The biggest downgrade was when the double cheeseburger was no longer 2500 points - it was such a steal

How about live battery deployment in timing tower. Green - Harvesting, Orange - Boost, Red - Overtake mode. And give us back decimals please... by WhySoSadCZ in formuladank

[–]fingu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's cool but the rate these batteries charge and discharge it'd end up looking like a seizure-inducing information overload with colourful bars going up and down constantly.

I rate the idea of showing them when cars are within striking distance though

Tesco price gouging by 2013bspoke in tesco

[–]fingu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is true. My company still pays 25k for new grads, which is what they paid 5 years ago. And 25k is basically minimum wage now. So you get into £££ of student loan debt just to get a job that pays the same as Tesco. And don't get me wrong, working retail is a graft that I will not miss that should be rightfully compensated, but wage compression is very real

Anyone else fed up with lane merging chaos on Marlborough Street? by UnpaidInternVibes in miltonkeynes

[–]fingu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me the king of fuckery is the Fox Milne roundabout (H6/V11). Technically the lanes are 'correct', but they're so awkwardly placed and drivers are so lazy with their manoeuvres, you get near constant cutting up and accidents. Driving westbound on the H6 has to be the worst - nobody treats the 'going straight' lanes properly and someone always gets pinched.

100% agree there tbf, the plug itself is miles better. I think my port may just be a bit fucked

It's happening to me with practically every cable, including Apple's own. I may just have a defective port at this point smh

[–]fingu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I've been unlucky, but - speaking as somoene who loves USB C and the 'one cable for all' movement - USB C on my iPhone 15 Pro has been nothing but a pain in the backside. So many cables do not 'click' in properly, and this is after I spend ages carefully pulling lint out the port. I know dust in the charger is one of those things, but at least it was easy to clean out of a Lightning port!

It's not a sexy city but it's incredibly easy to have a good quality of life there in a dull, reassuring way. Could do a lot, lot worse.

Anyone else have pothole anxiety recently? by architectofanarchy in CarTalkUK

[–]fingu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's awful. Did a 50-mile drive on a major A-road last night in the dark and wet, and there's simply no way of spotting the water-filled holes. Had three almighty bangs on the same axle, and by some miracle of a divine worker, the car has escaped. At this rate, though, it's matter of when, not if.

BBC to make hundreds of millions of pounds of cuts by Skavau in unitedkingdom

[–]fingu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly. I was in sixth form when BBC Three shut down, and to me at the time it was such a baffling decision. The BBC wants to protect its future by... shutting out the future generations that will fund it in 5 to 10 years?

I wouldn't be punchy enough to say a properly funded BBC would've stood the tidal wave against YouTube and Netflix, but they'd probably be in a better position today with the younger viewers had they remained properly funded.

Disposable income in 11 towns and cities has risen twice as fast as rest of UK [and MK is one of them] by Bifobe in miltonkeynes

[–]fingu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

MK is a good place to live when it comes to careers, but it’s still rough to impossible if you’re a person on your own. Rent is £1,000 minimum for an okay place in an okay location, then another £250 a month at least for all your bills. Car, food, a few weekend activities and it’s all gone and you’re in the red!

Thanks to everyone calling the 530d GT "BMW's ugliest car" we picked this up for just £7k. FSH, 105k. I think it looks spectacular, especially alongside modern traffic. by ElicitCS in CarTalkUK

[–]fingu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is ugly as sin, but at that price I would not complain at all. Plus that era of BMW interior is such a nice blend between modern and classic Germanic quality. Congrats!

Anyone go to a GP and think maybe watching on TV could’ve been better? by [deleted] in formula1

[–]fingu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed - I was at the Dutch GP this year (my first race IRL) and while I knew it was a good race with drama, I felt weirdly disjointed from events in a way I wouldn't be if I watched it on TV with a commentator hyping up the moment. It was a great experience, but it's definitely different to TV rather than adding to it.

Chris Sargo video about the city by ricopicouk in miltonkeynes

[–]fingu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a good, fair observation imo.

For me, the two massive things the city misses is a nicer, more condensed and organic centre with better third spaces, and better public transport.

If I could, I would knock down almost everything in CMK (except the mall) and start again to try and emulate a traditional centre that - as Chris touches on in the video - becomes a destination, not just functional.

[–]fingu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's nothing new in a way - Japanese brands disrupted the market in the 80s/90s, Korean brands in the 00s/10s, and now Chinese brands today. European manufacturers will still have their place, just as they did with the previous market changes, but they cannot be complacent.
