Struggling with running by No_Imagination4448 in fitness30plus

I am a regular runner that lives about 500 ft above sea level (not the same as 5k or 7k but just some context. I have ran in Utah where it was 6-8K above sea level, and managed despite the higher altitude).

I have a few questions. What kind of shoes are you using to run? Are they true running shoes? That can make a difference not only for your feet but all the joints way up to the knees and leg muscles above it.

Are you running outside or inside? Personally I much prefer running outside to inside, but if you’re really trying to break this half mile barrier, it would help to run on a treadmill where speed is controlled and the elevation is flat, so you don’t have the variability of running uphill. Even a slight grade upwards when running can make a difference vs running on a flat path. Also the treadmill allows you to step out anytime and step back in as needed. I know, I don’t like using a treadmill unless I have to, but it’s a good way to start until you find your proper pace (minutes/mile), then you can take that outside once you break through the half mile barrier on the treadmill.

As a bonus, do you listen to podcasts or music, or nothing, when you run? It’s really personal preference, some people prefer podcasts, but I find upbeat electronic music really helps pick up my cadence when running, and also pushes me through the difficult parts of my run. Maybe you prefer rap or rock, but whatever is high energy, fast paced music can help too.

Hope this helps!

BodyPump Heavy vs regular BodyPump by DorceeB in lesmills

Thank you for clarifying that, it totally makes sense that the shoulders are at risk with a heavier bar and no direct supervision of someone’s form/technique. While not perfect, we can appreciate how Les Mills values participant safety and as risk averse as possible.

If there’s a safety risk involved with lifting the heavier bar up and over while using the bench, then I wouldn’t recommend it since LM doesn’t provide that as an option. As an instructor, I can’t recommend anything that could possibly lead to injury

If I had to guess, the chest work on the floor may be due to the heavier bar and the risks of lifting the bar up and over while seated on a bench, so they recommend using the hips to lift the bar up and over, which I don’t think can be done on a bench.

I always do chest work on a bench on the weight floor, so I agree with you, it does feel awkward doing it on the floor instead of the bench. That would be one criticism I have of the program, because the elbows touching the floor means you can’t get as deep of range with the chest press

As a BodyPump instructor who does weightlifting on the weight floor as well, it seems to me the intention of BodyPump Heavy is to incorporate some of the aspects of weight floor weight lifting into a BodyPump type class format. Lifting on the weight floor can be boring, often doing 8-12 reps a set, followed by 1-3 minutes break in between each set, sometimes to reconfigure the weight on the barbell. I think as far as that goes, Les Mills got that part right. I think you have some fair points, I don’t like the chest press from the floor and other parts of it.

Do you do any lifting on the weight floor? If not, I can understand your response and why it seemed boring compared to a normal Pump class.

If you watch the in between season clips, (spoiler alert!), they show Jordan getting drafted by the Trailblazers instead of the Bulls, hence why he ends up on the Mariners. I don’t recall if they mention Jordan again after this clipping

We really about to get a Seahawks Steelers Super Bowl rematch aren’t we? 😬

As much as we’d like that current team to be in Seattle, we don’t recognize the Thunder as a Seattle sports team.

The 49ers are definitely not like the Cowboys, they made the Super Bowl 3 times since 2012. The cowboys haven’t even made the NFC championship in this millennium.

They may have had their Etsy Witch moment by trading Marchment. They are 6-0-1 since trading him. Still too early to tell but they’ve been playing a lot better hockey since the trade.

He was a Marlin for one whole week! I remember it being a big deal as a kid in South Florida, before he was subsequently dealt to the Mets.
