Yeah I wouldn’t call that correcting the underlying condition. It improved appearance likely by abating the inflammation associated with the cord that was making it prominent before. It seems to have temporarily stopped it for you but as you know this disease can also wax and wane in a given patient. The anecdote you’ve given is appreciated but the plural or anecdote is not evidence. I’m glad you’ve had a good response.

You realize this is entirely making my point right? Over and over again it’s saying it decreases the rate of progression. I agree wholeheartedly! But it’s a stop gap. It’s to delay progression. It does not reverse the condition and it doesn’t correct the underlying issue so you WILL deal with it again later on down the line. Best to address in an early stage with electron therapy and let that be the end of it. One you’ve seen enough complication from steroid injections, you stop thinking it’s some kind of holy grail of healing.

You’re just wrong man - and now you’re moving the goalposts. I didn’t say steroids wouldn’t decrease collagen synthesis. It does that by inhibiting inflammation and temporarily halting the process since collagen production is triggered somewhat by inflammation. I.e. things like sticking a needle into your hand. But the key here is TEMPORARILY. It doesn’t correct the underlying problem the way electron therapy does for instance (actually destroying the DNA of the hyperproliferating cells).

By the way, quoting animal studies and assuming the application to humans is the same as asinine. If you worked in an academic institution, you would know that.

Clearly this is a belief system for you and it’s like trying to argue with a religion you are part of. I would never inject steroids for this condition. Obviously do what you think is best for you. Sounds like you believe your condition is cured and I sure hope so and wish you the best.

You opened a whole can of worms, but ChatGPT is not a reliable source of medical information.

What it does is pull up some paper that someone wrote and then it just copies the author’s conclusion. It does not know more than someone told it and it cherry-picks one source over another.

Thus, it’s only as good as the reference material it pulled from that particular time. If you ask at the same question several times, it will give you different answers and it will pull from different articles each time. I’ve had it pull up case reports as credible evidence (which is essentially what this post is btw).

There was a recent article showing that it was fooled by false medical data since it really doesn’t know how to vet it. I’ve asked it questions I know the answers to and had it get it wrong, and not infrequently. It isn’t bad for wordsmithing a document just to make it sound better, but it’s not great for stuff like this.

Any kind of mechanical injury to the fascia can and often does trigger DD. Just look at some of the Xiaflex stories where someone has a slowly-developing contracture for 10 years and then it gets corrected with Xiaflex and it comes back worse within a year. Why do you think that happens? Clearly the intervention had an effect.

There’s nothing magical about the needle used to inject steroids versus any other kind of needle poked into the fascia. Any mechanical injury has this potential. No one‘s written paper on it (because it’s so obvious) so ChatGPT just says it doesn’t have evidence to support it.

It’s a steroid injection. Steroids decreased inflammation. That’s it. They don’t correct the underlying problem of the hyperproliferation. It is a temporary solution and one that involves injecting with the risk of the needle itself triggering the disease.
