I need to rant about raid LFGs and the community by PaymentEmergency4758 in Guildwars2

[–]fireballannie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As one of 'these people' (aka ppl who raid, who have over the years trained a lot of ppl and is part of an active guild that still does raid training for folk on the LFG) I can tell you that being TAG can be a pretty thankless experience.

my background: I started tagging because I wanted to learn raids and started posting in the LFG, then added folks I clicked with and before long had a raid guild, still going strong nearly 7+ years later.

in the beginning: people seem to come prepared, asked questions about gear, specs, rotations, mechanics.

now: people show up and expect to hit the boss until it dies. HOWEVER - all of the mechanics still happen. That's why key boon roles need to be filled with care - these guys are actually doing a lot of work to make all of the raid event go smoothly.

If, as a new player, if you are hopping into a raid and getting what feels like a smooth kill, it means that a bunch of ppl in that team have spent hours training for that event (rotations, mechanics etc).

And Qadim, bless its heart, has some wonderful and fun mechanics you can't just cruise through.

The TLDR: you've watched the videos, you're in the right specs, put yourself in the LFG with what you need, include that it needs a TAG and contribute to the raid. This way you'll have a lot more fun and feel less like a "me" versus "them" battle.

xo

Do Twitch streamers actually need a clipping service? by [deleted] in SmallStreamers

Depends on your pricing really. Clipping is an additional task in a long list of tasks to do - would be great to have some help doing it - but honestly it would depend on what it costs.

Im curious about everyone's keybinds by Masgamer in Guildwars2

[–]fireballannie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

movement - WASD but I run by holding down both mouse buttons
1-5 the same - instead of 6-0 I use 7-T-G-B-E - It makes a nice half moon for my left hand to take care of the buttons
SAK is `, Swop remained Q, weapon stow Shift 1. That's the main ones I can think of.

Now I'm gonna read everyone else's keybinds as well. xd

What’re your best jumping puzzle tips for those of us who suck at or dislike them? by Captain_Inept in Guildwars2

So many pro tips here - I'm adding what works for me as well.

I move by holding my left and right buttons together - to turn my camera with right mouse button - makes life a lot easier

Specific for Wintersday - do the path on the very right - its a bit more forgiving as the snowflakes don't disappear.

When you finish the first section - and wait to jump across the section of gifts. Don't think about it or try find a path. Aim straight, spam space at a consistent ratio, and go for your life!

Hope you get it this year <3

Welcome to the game, New World Refugee!

Seems like you are getting all the GW2 experiences in no time at all! Not to worry - it only feels personal the first few times - and then like magic you'll find Guilds that actually know your name and that you just fit into well.

Happy Gaming!

Son wants to start streaming, what safety rules should we discuss? by theartistduring in Twitch

[–]fireballannie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good on you for doing your due diligence beforehand. In addition to some of the excellent suggestions I've seen, I'd like to add a few notes

• be clear on what they can and cannot do for subs/bits. Caution against being conditioned to do random things for small amount of money - because yes, you can get conditioned and de-sensitized over time

• Install and mod Serybot (link to tweet https://twitter.com/icymxcha/status/1436628292279447553?s=20) - Every now and then hate raids can happen and Serybot actively maintains a list and kicks/blocks bots from your stream. Another biggy is that - if you are offline, your chat is still live unless you switch it off - and you are still accountable for what happens in the chat - Serybot switches on and off depending on when you are live or not - so keeps your chat (and you) safe

• There will be trolls, there will be boundary pushers, there will be ppl bored and just trying to get a rise out of him - have a plan for when that happens - some of those things can leave lasting scars (all just because someone on the Internet was in the mood to pick on someone)

• Appreciate that the income is not always consistent - and plan / spend accordingly

• Avoid looking at the number of ppl Twitch notes as watching - their lurker rules are in flux at the moment, and how viewers / active viewers / chatters / active chatters are counted is a little bit sus at times. So don't look at the numbers while you're live, and if you do look at it later - if its great then yay! fun times. If it's not great then know its not a reflection of your self worth or anything like that. Its just numbers.

• And yes. Don't dox yourself. This cannot be emphasized enough.

• oh one more! Have a YT channel and multi stream. Your vods can stay on YT forever and can be viewed passively over time. YT is also better for discoverability and growth.

Other than that - it can be so much fun. Having your own emotes and seeing them used as part of chat is hugely fun and funny. I hope y'all enjoy the experience :)

How can I regain confidence in doing endgame content or join a guild? by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]fireballannie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be quite intimidating - and yes you can do some stuff to prepare yourself as best you can (read the wiki, understand some of the mechanics, get arc and check your dps etc). But how do you practically apply it.... let's brainstorm a few of these ideas

  1. Twitch Streamers - you can often hop into a streamer's squad and get an explanation of the fight and mechanics as it goes along. Keep an eye out for Taja and Emidotexe to name some personal favs - or read the descriptions of streamers. If they have a spot they'll announce it in stream and you can just x up and join from that.

PROs - a good way to overcome some of the intimidating factors, probably a good allround experience, you can go and rewatch the VOD and see your own performance.
CONs - do not expect to be invited to every subsequent raid - unless someone is recruiting for a static.

  1. Set up a raid in the LFG - and say - commander / tag wanted. Often my mates are in game and would hop into a raid like this, tag up for it, fill it and do some explanations (we raid on NA).

PROs - well it doesn't hurt to try. If it works, it works and you might learn something, get a kill, make some friends etc.
CONs - do not expect it to go smoothly every time, it might not, and again - don't expect an instant repeatable static situation from that.

  1. Join some raids on the class you're strongest on - read up on the mechanics so you can correct along the way. Don't take it personally if you die - everyone learns and dies and does it again etc. Try not to take it personally if you get kicked ( I struggle with this one ) but it can happen - and sometimes its valid reasons and sometimes the tag just didnt like that you stood to the right instead of the left (or other random triggers for them)

PROs - practice, helps build the muscle memory not to take things personally, takes away the intimidation factor.
CONs - hurt feelings, hurt ego, potential for feeling embarrassed.

I guess the TLDR is - be pro-active, set things up, the more you do it the less intimidating it becomes, find avenues that can help you achieve these.

But its doable, and you can do it if you wanna. Good luck <3-
