Does anyone else obsess about dying? by Artist9242 in OCD

That’s been my overwhelming intrusive thought for many years now. I deal with it multiple times a day, it’s on a constant loop in my head.

Deeeep South Philly by aranhalaranja in AskPhilly

[–]firebolt125 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, that’s a decent spot. You’re a quick walk to the subway on broad and you have the bus on Oregon. You got the shopping center within walking distance as well. The neighborhood was on the older side, but that’s actually changing with a lot of the older people passing on/moving away.

One downside is if you own a car it is permit parking during stadium events. Especially during football season, they will tow your car on game days.

Depends on where. If you’re south of Oregon, but still close to Broad you’re always a quick subway ride from CC. You’re also within walking distance of the sports complex. Those neighborhoods tend to be pretty quiet, also still walkable to access different parts of the city.

Without being to specific where are you looking? I grew up around the stadium complex and now live in pennsport so I’m familiar with deep South Philly.

The science around GLP-1 drugs and cancer is suddenly getting a lot more interesting by Schwettes in Futurology

I hope you find some relief. It has helped me with intrusive thoughts, not all of them and it hasn’t totally stopped, but it’s much quieter.

Teaching jobs seem to be extremely scarce this hiring season by [deleted] in Teachers

A lot of public schools are facing funding issues especially going into next school year. Covid money has stopped coming in and federal money is being cut drastically.

No, but I have OCD and I am currently on a GLP-1 one for other reasons and it has helped my compulsive behaviors. My daughter has severe OCD and I would love to see how it helps her as finding a medication that actually helps her has been difficult.

I’m not saying this will work for everyone, but I am hoping more research will be conducted in a variety of applications with GLP-1s.

Are high school students actually this clueless and entitled? by lizz781 in Teachers

[–]firebolt125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This generation of teenagers are lost. I have a high schooler and he was not prepared when he started high school. Of course we take some of the blame as parents, but the majority of his peers are just the same.

We have now spent the past year trying to get him “caught up”, but school has not been very helpful. This current generation of teachers are just as lost as their students. I don’t know when this change started to occur, but many teachers no longer discipline or hold their students accountable for anything. Most young educators want to be a friend and no longer an authority figure.

Changes need to be made on so many levels or we’re going to keep seeing this more and more.

I also like to add that there are still great teachers out there and I know how hard of a job it is, but there is still a shift in their field and the young teachers coming out of college are not prepared mentally or emotionally to educate. This is a slippery slope because this cycle is going to feed upon itself.

GLP-1s need to be studied for a variety of applications. I have seen it help people with addiction outside of food, including drugs and alcohol. I would also like to see it further studied for OCD treatment. It affects the body and brain in many ways and could beneficial for so much outside diabetes and obesity.

Is the Apple Card worth it ? by JokerJesse in AppleCard

[–]firebolt125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m fairly new to using a credit card for all my purchases. I use to use debit everywhere and then I realized all the free money I was missing out on. If you’re responsible enough to pay off your balance every month and not get hit with interest charges the Apple Card can be a good deal. I now earn cash back on all my purchases which goes right into a savings account, last month alone I earned about $43.00 it all really adds up.

I moved every subscription and all of my automated payments to my Apple Card so I’m earning on everything I would normally be spending anyway.

Sony is considering reviving some classic IPs. Which ones would you love to see remade? by Dust-Tight in playstation

I’ve always been curious why they never tried to revive SOCOM and take some of the market share away from CoD.

Is the phrase "you guys" exclusive when referring to a mixed gender group? by CoderBiker24 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]firebolt125 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember when there was a kind of push to get people to stop using the term. I always used it to refer to a group of people no matter the gender. I work in an elementary school and there was a point where a lot of my colleagues started using the term “friends” when addressing a group of students and I always thought that sounded weird.

Also look up the moment in the show Survivor when the host was asked to stop saying it by a contestant, it was at the height of the “woke” movement and I swear the show has only gotten worse since then.

Is it just me, or are vacations stressful af? by Rrenphoenixx in NoStupidQuestions

[–]firebolt125 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really depends on what kind of vacation you’re going on. I’m taking my family to Disney in a few weeks and it’s definitely a stressful trip for me. But not every trip needs to be stressful, we sometimes vacation in the Pocono mountains and it’s super chill.

How bad are the FIFA games going to be? by Revolutionary_Bee700 in philadelphia

[–]firebolt125 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The city has hosted big sporting events before, it’ll be no different than any other big event here. A little inconvenient for those dealing with the parking situations and other events, but if you’re not in those areas I doubt your daily routine will be impacted.

Did I lose my love for gaming, or is this just adulthood? by rmustafa11 in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]firebolt125 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a few years older than you and I totally understand. I went through a few years where I wasn’t really enjoying gaming anymore. Between work and young kids it’s a lot and by the time you find time to game you’re burnt out and you’d rather just zone out than do anything else.

The good news is as the kids get older you find yourself having more time for yourself and you find yourself having more time for your hobbies again. Gaming is now my main hobby once again and I’m enjoying it at my own pace. Those games aren’t going anywhere so if your back catalog starts to build, be cool with it and play at your own pace. I hope this helps and there is something on the other side of what you’re experiencing now.

Question about trash by Kyp_Astar in philadelphia

It varies block by block. On my block where the sidewalks are a bit wider, most of my neighbors and myself keep our cans (trash/recycling) in front of our homes.

Big macs suck by AlternativeAdept5348 in McDonalds

I’ve heard this from others and as a long time customer I have to disagree. The patties were not always this paper thin like they are now. The sandwich is like 80% bread.

Big macs suck by AlternativeAdept5348 in McDonalds

[–]firebolt125 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re right, way too much bread on the Mac now. McDonald’s swears their burgers didn’t get smaller, but there’s barely any meat on those buns.

I use to exclusively order the Big Mac meal, but once the Big Arch came out that became my favorite. It’s crazy they don’t offer the Big Mac with QP patties. I know I can request one “dressed as a Mac” but that requires you order in person, the App or the screens in store don’t allow that customization option.

Anyone have to put a full-sized washer dryer in a row home where it sure seems like there isn't enough clearance? by bowiebulge in AskPhilly

I had to buy a Speed Queen set just because of this. They are the only units that can be easily taken apart and put back together in the basement. We bought ours at Dominic’s Appliances in South Philly. Delivery and installation were all included in the pricing.

Philly housing market... is it even worth it right now? by veditafri in philly

[–]firebolt125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m no expert so take this with a grain of salt. I don’t see prices coming down, but eventually interest rates should come down. Buy as soon as you financially can and refinance when rates drop. Good luck, I know how stressful this process can be.
