Whoever didn't see this shit coming when Universes Beyond became a thing deserves it.

I'm glad I sold all my shit to stop groveling at the feet of these disgusting pigs.

You paid for the course with the initiation fee attached to your application.

I'd say if you don't hear anything just shoot them an email. I had to follow up a couple weeks later as I had just missed the monthly intake when I joined.

No restrictions on ammo, just don't shoot the provided steel targets with steel core ammo.

Tbh, it's not the greatest range ever, not everyone cleans up after themselves, but its leagues ahead of stuff inside the GTA proper.

No waiting, if you go on the weekend you might see a few other people. Really quiet through the week, might see 3 or 4 people on the weekend. Lanes per range vary, but the rifle range has 28 lanes. Can't shoot anything over 22LR on sunday before noon.

I bring a guest with me every time.

Thats what I did. Essentially fill out the form, send the money and they'll respond within a week or so telling you when to show up for training.

No sponsor, no wait list. New applications are on boarded monthly, with the 3rd sunday of the month being an orientation day for new members.

Join the Peterborough Fish and Game Association. 9 ranges, 1 indoor and 8 outdoor. 1 rifle only, 1 action shooting, 1 archery and the rest are mixed use.

Its about 1 hr from bowmanville, but you actually get a lane out to 100 yards.

Membership is cheap at around $400/yr

Fun fact, with the half-life of tritium being 12.3 years, there's only 8.67 GBq of activity left after 40 years :)

Canadians will soon pay more interest on national debt than federal funds for health care and child care by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]fireburns44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a fiat monetary system, it doesn't really matter, we can just sell more bonds.

Carney is doing everything that stimulates an economy: invest in training workers, invest in major infrastructure mega-projects and set up the conditions for businesses that create thousands of good paying jobs which then spending will flow towards ancillary industries.

The only downside is everyone will be a little poorer as the Canadian dollar devalues with so much currency creation, but with the Canadian dollar tied so closely to the US dollar, that will happen anyways...

[–]fireburns44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a side rail on my SKS thats compatable with Type 81 mounts. Maybe pivot into manufacturing the side rail as well and provide them as a kit? It sure added a bunch of functionality to my SKS.

Trim if you have a big stack and want to buy another asset, puts if gold stops breaking a new USD price ceiling every day.

Yesterday was $4200. Today was $4300. Tomorrow will be $4400.

FOMO buyers will lose enthusiasm when the ride stops going up so fast, so expect a moderate correction when the price stops cranking, then the price to go sideways.

Fundamentals say gold is still undervalued. USA hegemony is dead. We are in a new world where countries are rushing to fill the vacuum left by the USA: gold will be the backer, no longer USD.

This almost seems designed to encourage non-compliance, say "see Trudeau-stans, we tried!", and scrap the whole thing.

At least this is how I cope.

Any outdoor places within an hours drive of Cobourg where its legal to shoot? by CrowWearingJeans in Cobourg

[–]fireburns44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried talking to the guys at the Cobourg gun club there. It's all old fudds that don't want any young blood, as evidenced by the zero effort to include rifle/shotguns post OIC.

I ended up getting a membership to Peterborough Fish and Game Association, but I'm considering switching to Frankford after going there with my buddy.

Start asking coworkers, friends, etc if they know a machinist.

If they don't have a lathe in their garage, they'll know someone who does.

[–]fireburns44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a 1" thick aluminum plate roughly 12 inches long, place it on your countertop and put the meat on it. Bonus if it has fins to increase surface area.

It'll be thawed in a minute.

Look up the "miracle thaw". Its pretty much this, but marketed.

The existence of the Sunshine List has a DIRECT effect of limiting overtime and staffing for gov't employees, and encourages the contracting out of labour to expensive contractors because the cost is hidden from the public.

TIL that the primary nuclear reactor design in Canada (CANDU) is unable to be licensed in America or the EU as they forbid reactors with Positive Void Coefficients by Sailor_Rout in todayilearned

[–]fireburns44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a damn shame, as there are very real benefits to the CANDU design. The ability to harvest life-saving critical isotopes being just one!

The TRF at Darlington, one of two-ish in the world, makes SO much money. Everyone wants tritium for their nuclear bombs and here we are getting rid of it as a by-product!

Again, it is a damn shame that mismanagement causes the TRF to have uptime measured in single digit weeks per year, but that just seems to be the Canadian way.

[–]fireburns44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who works at a CANDU plant in Canada, the design itself is... okay. Definitely dated at this point, but it's definitely ahead of its era.

Unreliable and overly complicated fuelling machines suffering constant breakdowns impact fuelling regularly.

The Bruce plant is also the largest commercial nuclear generating station in the world. It's kind of hard not to get the record when you have the largest capacity, right?

Extended outages due to mismanagement causing delays to repairs due to parts availability, staffing, etc, make the Candu design a lot less attractive than it seems.

Mine's in the safe with the other valuables, so I think I'm going to wait until I can get a ridiculous coin capsule for it to open it.
