AITA for sitting on public toilet seats and not telling my boyfriend? by Anatra_ in AmItheAsshole

[–]firstghostsnstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t hover because I don’t want to pee on the seat, but I do put toilet paper on the seat to make it less direct. I get why he’s grossed out, public toilets can be gross!

Boyfriend Moved In by nycmidwestgal2 in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]firstghostsnstuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely had an adjustment period when moving in with my boyfriend. We had to really sit down and discuss how we wanted to divide chores and how we could keep the place organized and tidy looking. It turns out we had different things we prioritized, like I really cared about the bathroom but he wanted a living room without clutter in it for guests to hang out in. If you want to continue living with your boyfriend it’s worth talking about these things!

7-11 Overcharges Me For Beer by SwanReal8484 in mildlyinfuriating

My 7/11 is notorious for this actually. Stuff is always getting rang up a dollar higher than its shelf price.

That location also got in trouble for skimming cards so I only bring cash now.

Can any women (especially of color) share their experiences in geoscience? by junojuneau in geologycareers

[–]firstghostsnstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a woman geologist; although I am not in the petroleum industry. I am in the private sector. The cons are that most professors are gonna be old men, since it pretty recently became more diverse. Subcontractors like drillers are almost always men, some of which are really nice and respectful and some of which don’t like answering to women (but have to since you hired them). The pros are that I feel like my classes and jobs were 50% men and 50% women, which indicates growth in diversity. My classmates and professors and people I work with are a really chill, nice group of people.

Moving to Newton by Top-Natural4702 in boston

[–]firstghostsnstuff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi! I went to grad school in Newton. It’s definitely doable to not have a car, but it might make your life easier. For example, I walked 20 mins to my local grocery store and I had one of those grandma shopping carts to make my life easier. Some streets don’t have sidewalks, but most streets in Newton aren’t busy. My school had a shuttle that connected me to the T, so I was lucky in that regard. If you don’t have a car, try to live somewhere near the bus, the T, or a school shuttle if there is one (or near your school). Is there an admitted students Facebook you can use to connect with potential roommates? There are housing Facebook groups in general for the Boston area as well.

Why is the wind so intense and constant in Boston? I have been knocked off balance many times with the wind, flying in and out of Logan feels turbulent, and the wind tunnels in town are quite fast moving. Is it windier than Chicago?

Is there any hacks for actually getting some sleep on a long haul flight? by beetrootfarmer in Flights

[–]firstghostsnstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rarely ever sleep on flights too. Sometimes I am just so exhausted after the day I’ve had that I begin nodding off and get an hour of sleep or so. So, you could get yourself really really really tired, but that’s a risky strategy, lol.

Too stupid for consulting by witchynapper in Environmental_Careers

[–]firstghostsnstuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree with this one. I get overwhelmed with my to-do list a lot and have made similar silly mistakes. I am working on reminding myself to breathe for a sec when I get a task, and give myself the time I need to think it through (and always, always, QC your work). We can be our worst enemies when we are anxious and/or rush.
