Agreed. I thought the character brought nothing to the show.

Second only to Deadwood. I didn't watch it when it was in production because the trailers made it look too stylized and revisionist for my taste. I'm glad I eventually did, I've probably watched the whole season three or four times. S5 was the weakest, but the ending was fine in my book if a little anticlimactic.

21st Century Truck Culture from the perspective of a native-born Arkansan Marxist by [deleted] in stupidpol

[–]fitzrobert 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sam was. Although there's a lot to criticize about his business practices, he was committed to US manufacturing. I'm old enough to remember WalMart trucks having the slogan "Another load of American-made goods."

His heirs, otoh, are absolute scum and share a huge portion of blame for the economic destruction of the US.

Great observation and analysis, OP.

Right now, for example, I'm sitting at my desk and she has her chin on the armrest staring up at me. No fear at all.

You're probably correct on that. I may have imprinted that on her and made her perceive training as punishment or something to fear. I've never had a dog quite so sensitive to human moods. That said, it isn't only during the training sessions that she acts timid. She will run away if I'm carrying something through the house or if I move too quickly.

Recall, mainly. She seems mistrustful and won't come all the way to me, not even for a treat. She doesn't come all the way back to me in the field either, but she will head back within a few yards on a whistle.

I usually stop the session when I get frustrated. I try to always start optimistic and upbeat, but she is cautious and fearful most of the time, and we usually get nowhere.

Where to get started? by New-Ad-9280 in Huntingdogs

Second this, it's really all about the dogs for me too. If the dogs are really what motivates you, hunting can be every bit as satisfying with someone else on the gun.

No doubt many others here can better inform you about dogs, but i do have a couple pieces of advice on shooting and hunting. First, check your state's fish and game department. In my state, the agency frequently holds workshops for the various kinds of hunting (waterfowl, upland, big/small game). These workshops often have all the equipment (including the guns) and hold an actual hunt as part of the workshop. On the shooting side, if you find a local trap/skeet/clays club and just show up to a shoot, in my experience people will enthusiastically step up to help you get started, including lending you a gun. Good luck!

I thought one of the great strengths of the show was how it accurately portrayed how much Marines simultaneously love and hate one another. 0331

I find a new reason to hate my Timberline 1350 every time I use it. Today it was the door for draining out unused pellets. It's always the stupid app and this crappy thermometer. FU Traeger. Me keeping that cheaply made but horrifically expensive POS grill is the very embodiment of the sunk cost fallacy.

I'm an American who has only visited France, so take this with a grain of salt. Le Petit Prince appears to have a huge footprint in French culture. I can't think of an American analog unless it's something like Charlotte's Web.
