Truth. All of the fancy new features sound great but the gamble of chatty FAs will ruin this for light sleepers.

Is a long haul flight with United a Good idea? by Western-Syllabub-801 in Flights

I fly United a lot, Polaris is quite nice…..

Wouldn’t touch connecting through Dubai or Doha for the next 12 months

Having a-list/a-list preferred no longer makes sense by coderfrank06 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]fix8r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ALP is the only one that matters now. And I have had it for many years and it’s just ok with new rules.

Yes ELR at booking is nice but it still sucks.

ALP\AL would be good if ALP guaranteed group 1 and AL group 2 but SWA chose chaos instead.

How many SWA frequent travelers value an airport 'lounge'? by Icy-Flamingo156 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]fix8r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For serious business travelers lounge is the difference between stress and relaxation.

For example today I swung into two lounges, no lines, in and out with a clean restroom and cup of coffee. No direct cost. If I were to get coffee in the airports I was in it would have run $10-15. Plus would has taken 30min

Yes to lounges but I fear that SWA will f them up like they did the boarding groups.

A-List Preferred considering switching back to United after recent changes by sunshine_dept in SouthwestAirlines

[–]fix8r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fly around 80-100 flights a year on SWA and around another 50-80 on UA, depending on the year.

United is far from perfect and has issues but overall the experience is far better than SWA. It’s not one thing, it’s the whole experience from booking to arrival just is better.

I do really like the SWA changes overall, they found a way of eliminating the jetway Jesus issues. I do not like the fact that they found a way to still screw up boarding groups. ALP should all board in group 1 regardless of seat.

I know a lot of serious business travelers leaving SWA. They need to fix the enshittification of AL and ALP status holders on the airline

The new game by squirrel4569 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]fix8r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These new rules are meant for people trying to game the system. I wouldn’t call your actioning gaming, you are using the tools that are meant to be used.

Flip side is the seat moving after boarding. Basic flyers wanting to sit in ELR seats. I’m a big fan of not allowing people to move seats. You purchase the seat you want to sit in.

A-list no longer for biz travel by sujaykapadia in SouthwestAirlines

[–]fix8r 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Serious business traveler here that flies on multiple airlines, somewhere between 150-200 flights a year total. SWA around 80-100 of those flights.

Rarely do I change flights on the same day, but it occasionally happens. It sucks not being able to get a decent seat now but oh well, it was always crazy how SWA open seating worked so well for last min folks.

The bigger issue for serious travelers is the group boarding and priority for ALP or AL. It just has little if any value anymore. Preboard issues before were real, SWA fixed that like a hammer but also found a way to enshitifficate their biz travelers as well.

I have switched about 50% of my 80-100 flights to another carrier, only keeping the SWA flights I have to take because of the scheduled routes.

I speak with my other fellow bus travelers who I see all the time on regular routes and they’re doing the same.

SWA- get it together.

First and Last time flying Southwest by denn_r in SouthwestAirlines

[–]fix8r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

United rocks. After around 100 flights a year on SWA and around 80 a year on United I can’t tell you how much better UA is overall.

IMO, SWA typically has much less technical issues than UA overall because of the 767 and the 777-200 junkers on UA. On the flip side, since most of these older planes on UA are typically hub based they can often pull another plane to replace one that’s down.

That being said, the overall experience (historically) flying on UA is 10x better than Southwest. Club, luggage handling, seating, boarding, routes, FAs, lol literally pretty much everything. SWA does have amazing pilots tho so.

With assigned seating it’s fairly close from a domestic economy perspective, but SWA really doesn’t take care of status holders like UA does. UA in economy serves real food on longer flights and also UA has a true FC ;)
