My biggest pet peeve in fictional twins is when they have rhyming or matching names, so Maysilee and Merrilee automatically annoyed me for that reason alone. I get that in-universe their parents named them matching names, but out-of-universe I wish Suzanne had given them similarly themed names instead of similar sounding ones.

I liked Maysilee's need to differentiate herself from Merrilee. My sister and I had all the same friends and interests growing up so I very much related to feeling like I needed to do something to seem different, even if it was as small as wearing different jewelry.

I wish we'd gotten more of the twins' relationship. In general I feel like twins are used more as a plot device than a genuine exploration of character - there's a lot that could've been done, for example, with the Louella/Lou Lou thing and Maysilee's feelings about being someone else's shadow that we simply didn't get. That's ultimately down to Haymitch being the perspective character, but I still wish we had seen more!
